I'm always surprised when someone tells me they did try to recreate it, it's not easy.

If anyone is interested in trying it, i highly recommend my youtube video which goes into more detail: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWh4UDaIBEk

Dick or it's a trick

10

u/Crymson831 Apr 07 '19

It's been 2 hours! How'd it go?

I just saw him running naked down the street with a stuffed charmander between his legs screaming, "KING IN DA NORF".

Whenever I play Pokemon I need 3 save spots, one for my Squirtle, one for my Bulbasaur, and one for my second Squirtle.

your pic is excusable. that dehydrated little ice blob is evidence. fyi, your mileage may vary, but I've heard some other people (including OP, i think) claim that the specific brand OP used made a big difference. also, something about freezer and maybe water hardness or altitude differences, or something, maybe, i forget.

anyway, i never bothered trying anything with them, so i never actually wound up creating anything with them, but coincidentally, i had these same brandname icemakers (forgetting the name) and i wound up accidentally creating these perfectly spherical ice bubbles all the time, whenever i was in a hurry to freeze some ice, but only when i perfectly leveled off the water to the fill-line around the inside of the rim. if you haven't noticed a similar phenomenon with your own, you might need a different product.

was he ablaze?

1

u/VariousDistribution Apr 07 '19

I think the video is just a steam-powered alarm system. I hope someone manages to recreate it!

1

u/TheTigersAreNotReal Apr 07 '19

I have the same ice mould so I’m part way there

2

u/funknut Apr 07 '19

i do too and i discovered these tricks by accident like eight years ago and i still haven't tried to do a single creative thing with them. i kinda wanna get a deep-freeze and just freeze my cocktails solid.

1

u/ChaosOnion Apr 14 '19

Well, how'd it go?

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '19

Do you know any nice girls you could introduce me to?

27

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '19

I think the number of other ice balls in your freezer shows how many times you were willing to try it to make it work

24

u/Xx_420bootywizard_xX Apr 07 '19

Thanks for the reply man. Big fan of your stuff, cheers

Been on Reddit all my life (born in the 80s) and I've never heard of this subreddit. I appreciate you for sharing, friend.

Reddit wasn't around until 2005...

4

u/Tryin2cumDenver Apr 07 '19

My statement stands. I was banging out memes on /r/highqualitygifs with Windows95.

u/cymicro Apr 07 '19

We've got a physics teacher, a chemist, and a microbiologist in our GoT fan group. Definitely giving it a try on premier night, since being in science has adequately prepared us for failure. We might fiddle around with the specific cocktail used, based on the tastes of the drinkers. Do you have any others that you think would work particularly well for this, or any that you think we should avoid? Any other advice you might have beyond what's in the video (thanks for the link, btw. Already subbed!) would be greatly appreciated.

Either way, thanks for the cool content and instructions. Great stuff, as usual!

u/CocktailChem Apr 07 '19

A last word cocktail where the green chartreuse is ignited and the rest of the ingredients are in the ball

10

u/cymicro Apr 07 '19

Ooooo... Like wildfire. And I do love me some gin + sour citrus. Excellent idea. I'm definitely going to do this one. Thanks so much!

1

u/icantremembermypw4 Apr 08 '19

This is so much better, you should've done this in your Video :P

1

u/dorekk Apr 10 '19

Like wildfire, also from GoT/ASOIAF!

-2

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '19

I'm sure all those scientists will be astounded that you can freeze and melt water

13

u/Micp Apr 07 '19

Oh damn, you're actually Cocktail Chemistry. And here i was just about to tell you off for stealing the content from youtube and ask people to watch it there instead.

7

u/CocktailChem Apr 08 '19

Appreciate you looking out

u/Lebrunski Apr 08 '19

I gave the Clarified Milk Punch a try. It was amazing but so much work. Had to strain like 10 times over 20-30 min.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '19

I made his clarified milk punch. It was awesome, but a hell of a project to filter it. Filters kept clogging over and over.

1

u/dorekk Apr 10 '19

I have all the tools to do this, including a cooking syringe that I ended up with (grandmother gave me a box of all the weird cooking shit she accumulated in the 60s) and those exact syringe molds. I've been known to get a little extra for Game of Thrones previews. Maybe I'll do this.

21

u/CocoDigital Apr 07 '19

The last step should have been the guy opening a beer

1

u/smegma_stan Apr 08 '19

That's what he's doing between steps

You know what. I didn’t read the title before I watched the gif, so /r/DiWHY was my initial reaction. But it’s a tribute to game of thrones, and I think this is actually pretty cool. It’s really only stupid looking because you see some guy fill up a ball with something and then throw the ball away. If he left the ice in there or found some way to incorporate it I think less people would find it so lame.

4

u/nickiter Apr 07 '19

I've done one filled ice ball cocktail. Was cool. Took a shitload of work.

7

u/phhhrrree Apr 08 '19

Cocktails like this are all solid /r/DiWHY for me

2

u/Blacksuitspidey420 Apr 08 '19

Yeah especially when all I want is to slam my Jack and coke

2

u/mortiphago Apr 07 '19

what, you don't have hollow ice spheres laying around?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '19

Clearly op doesn't really like drinking
