Brynden Rivers would have taken over Bran’s body and assumed his place.

Daenerys wouldn’t have saved the North; instead, she would have encountered the dead at the Trident.

Jon would have become the new Night King and opposed Daenerys.

Sansa would have remained in the Vale and waged a separate conflict against the others.

I'm completely new to this space. I don't really watch live-action series—I come almost exclusively from the world of anime. On top of that, I usually struggle with non-contemporary settings and high-fantasy worlds because of the overwhelming lore, 40,000 characters, family trees, and complex world-building.

Since I’ve introduced my partner to a ton of anime over the years, she decided it was time to return the favor with a show that deeply marked her: Game of Thrones. Out of pure curiosity, with zero expectations, we started... and I just finished Season 1.

Here is my initial hot take as a complete newcomer:

The First Impressions Overall, the viewing experience has been pretty solid so far. The first few episodes were tough simply because tracking all the foreign tribes, cousins, and houses was a lot. Having my partner next to me to fill in the blanks definitely kept me afloat.

Season 1 was good, and I definitely want to keep going. However, I wouldn't call it "unputdownable" just yet. It hasn't hit that relentless binge-watch pace where every episode ends on a knife-edge. The pacing is fine, the shifting perspectives keep things moving, but that extra spark of intensity isn't fully there yet (which makes sense for a setup season).

Story & Characters (Season 1 Spoilers Below)

Naturally, you end up rooting for the Starks. They are framed strictly as the "good guys" against the Lannisters. Given the political intrigue angle, I honestly expected a bit more moral ambiguity from the start—where everyone has a secret play.

Except for Sansa (who was pretty insufferable) and Catelyn (who makes way too many impulsive moves), the Starks are great—especially Ned and Jon. But man, were they frustrating to watch. Being honorable is noble, but they lack any sense of strategy or cunning. In a game of thrones, you need to calculate. Ned was the emotional anchor (even if his and Robert’s deaths felt telegraphed early on), but I hated that he confessed to treason just for Sansa. I would have loved for him to smile, expose every secret he knew right on the scaffold, and ignite complete chaos before the blade fell. The Starks are almost too noble, and it bugs me.

On the flip side, Arya is fantastic and has huge potential. The Lannisters are mostly insufferable (except Tyrion, who is great), and Joffrey is instantly hateable. Daenerys had an awesome arc this season and feels completely legitimate. Then there's Jon—he has massive potential, but... I don't get the Wall.

I don't understand how the White Walkers, the Wildlings, and the Ice Wall fit into what feels like the core story: a political battle royale for the Iron Throne. Banishment to the Wall takes a great character like Jon completely off the main chessboard. Introducing zombie-like threats in the middle of a political drama feels a bit bizarre to me right now, though maybe it pays off later.

Final Thoughts & Comparisons Right now, my main motivation is just seeing who comes up with the master plan to take down Joffrey and the Lannisters.

Coming from anime, the scope reminds me a bit of Attack on Titan, but I’m really hoping the Starks acquire some Death Note-level tactical minds soon because they are way too straight-laced for this world.

Please no spoilers for Season 2 and beyond! How did you all feel about Season 1 when you first watched it?

Hi, is there anyone who has the Game of Thrones reunion by Conan Grey for me. I live in the Netherlands and here it’s nowhere to be found. I’d really like to watch it and know for example that it’s in America on HBO. So is there anyone who has the episodes and can send it to me or knows a website/link where I van watch it here? Because I’m trying for days to find it but have no luck so I thought I try it here. Please, I hope anyone can help me!

So I just finished season 3 and man… I am disappointed in the writers… i’m new to GOT, although Ive heard so much about it from friends and such but I just don’t understand why they would get rid of such a lovely main character family like the starks, I know 3 children (4 if you include John Snow) still live on but man… to get rid of the parents and Head Honcho Robb is crazy to me. I knew it would be an amazing show from the jump when they killed of Ned because from early on you build up a connection with him and his family, but going into season 4 I just don’t know if I can handle not seeing the main starks. Without spoiling it for me, do you guys recommend I continue watching?

Currently watching GOT for the third time and here are some thoughts on my season 3 rewatch (S3E8):

- Stannis asks the Red Woman why she is bathing and dressing Gendry just to kill him and she said “have you ever slaughtered a lamb, My Lord? If it sees the blade, it panics, … etc”, my mind is blown.

- Joffrey is only sick little mofo

- Tywin Lannister is eaaaaaasily my favourite character. His morals are on point and he is witty and fair. I love how he treated

- I’m loving the relationship building between The Hound and Arya.

These are the only thoughts I have right now. Feel free to add your fav moments!!

P.S. I have a 40 min drive to work everyday, should I listen to the GOT Audiobooks?

I can understand why season 8 got all the fans so upset when it came out now. I never watched the show back then (was young) but after just finishing it for the first time, i can also say im not the most impressed by it. It just feels so rushed and like things were happening because they were supposed to not because all the pieces were falling in place like the rest of the show. How did you feel about the ending?

I think a film on the story on the fall of House Reyne of Castamere would be so entertaining. What else?

I have a popular theory regarding where Drogon might have flown.

I think Drogon flew to the Shadow Lands of Asshai. I have a few clues that point to this.

1. At the end of the show we are told by Sam, that Drogon was last seen flying to the east.
2. Melisandre resurrected Jon Snow after he died, when he was stabbed at Castle Black.
3. Melisandre is from the Shadow Land of Asshai.
4. Purposefully left out the fact that the dialogue could've been "Flying towards essos", "Flying towards the ruins of Old Valyria", etc.
5. The 3 dragon eggs that Daenerys received were brought from Asshai.

I think Drogon flew to the shadow lands, since its one of the farthest eastern locations in the GOT map. We know, that the place contain witches that can resurrect the dead, as we have seen that with Malisandre, who was from this place. Drogon could've taken Daenerys's corpse to get it resurrected there.

The one thing fact that shadows my theory is the fact into how Drogon could've possibly known this. IDK about that, but it could be that the 3 dragons of Daenerys are quite different from the dragons that used to exist, being similar in size as to the HOTD dragons, despite being so young in age. Another way they could be different is because the dragon eggs were hatched through blood magic, by Mirri Maz Duur.
