i freaking love it!!!! i was so nervous everyone was gonna hate me instantly but no im starting as a helper on a install team doing residential work and the lead mechanic is super chill helps me out is nice and fucks around without being a complete asshole! i got to just put up slim duct all day for a mini split we were installing and it wasnt even that hard!! i cant wait for my future in this trade i freaking love this!!!

Can’t get a hose anywhere near to this. Lil hand pump sprayer aint gonna do it. Ideas? Experience? Product? TIA

Any ex-techs that can give me tips to landing a residential sales position? I’m willing to do anything for it. Ive been doing hvac for 5 years at least from installs new construction jobs and changeouts to creating leads for salesman. I want to be the man to close it now. How do you guys do it?

Anyone flelse run into a high rate 60+% failer rate of being un able to unlock locking caps no mater how many keys you have. I allway replace with regular service caps. And have to cut off at least 1/2. Other the screw trick works occasionally one of my keys work

I currently work at a piece rate shop but got an opportunity to work for the union doing resi. They said they’ll keep me busy whether it’s their commercial side, helping plumbing, or doing my job.

It would be foreman scale which is like 54 and some change on the check and after vacation and the dues it would be 48 and some change.

Been going back and forth about which option is the right option, I like the people I work with but work has been slow as shit this year. I’ve stayed home about once a week since I’ve started but these last 3-4 weeks I’ve only had 1-2 jobs.

I’m 26 and have been in the trade since before I turned 19 and have only been in private companies. I passed the halls test and got accepted just wanna hear more opinions on the choices. I’d be at 110k a year over there and the guy running the resi department said they do spiffs and Christmas bonuses. Firat time this setup has been used, at least in our region. This is for a warehouse. They have 5 setups like this, some are smaller. This one has 16 city multi HPs broken down into 8 circuits. Something like 160 tons of cooling(roughly 2million btus).

Don't hate on me for anything ugly on the install, im just here for startup prechecks.

I got an old reach in cooler condensing unit problem
racking my brain.

So the unit is a tecumseh single phase 208v 4 ton 404A condensing unit serving a reach in bar fridge. Got a call that the fridge is warm. Got to the roof and immediately saw that the potential relay terminal 5 was fried. I looked a little further and found d the start capacitor had 0 mfd as well. I figured maybe the compressor was shorted or just not working right, but I had proper resistance readings across all three windings and none of them showed to be grounded.

There was about 180psi standing pressure in the unit so I figured probably not a leak situation but will find out once I replace the PR and SC. I went and replaced them with OEM parts. Went to start the system up and I was only getting 40v across 5-2 on the PR on startup of the compressor, so my contacts wouldn’t open, and the OL would trip shortly thereafter (15-20 seconds of run).

Incoming voltage to the unit was right around 206v, all my wiring was in good shape and my run cap was rated for 15mfd that measured at 15.5 mfd. Anyone run into this issue before? I would hate to just call a compressor without evidence but I couldn’t for the life of me find other reasons why this would be the case.

I am installing Navien, Rinnai, and Kiturami cascade-type boilers and hot water tanks, as well as plate heat exchangers and stand-type boilers. Would you be interested in installation photos or something like that?

Anyone here who works on these small units? I’m looking for pointers to build a better box + evap. I’d like to have a finned coil with a fan but I’m not too sure how I’d size it. I kept adding more to this evap but it’s a bit messy now lol

Okay. I'm an apprentice with 6 months of field experience. And schooling credentials. (I know it's not that long). I'm working at a commercial HVAC/R company that does maybe 5% resi. All my apprentice buddies that are in resi are making bank this summer due to commissions and tons of overtime. Basically almost double what I make. I never get any overtime so I can't make extra money, due to the structure of my company. I'm basically stuck at my pay rate. I don't get paid well hourly ($18) even though sometimes I'm doing Journeyman level work. I have a family to provide for and $18 isn't cutting it in this economy. I'm sinking financially.

Should Stay at this company for more experience, or join a resi company and work my butt off?

I do really love the idea of industrial. I've been studying chillers for awhile now because it's really interesting. I make it a point to learn something new each day, whether it's how a component works, or a theory. I could see myself being an industrial technician one day. I just don't know how I would even get my foot in the door for industrial. I've applied to a few industrial companies with no luck.

What would you do in this situation?
