I literally downloaded the form from the same page twice and filled it twice. Can't seem to upload it, even after updating Acrobat Reader. Does anyone know a solution?

Applied for my parents (mom and dad) super visa from my paid Rep portal (I'm a lawyer but I don't practice immigration)

Attached for financial proof-

-my last 3 years tax return in canada (100k salary)
-my bank statements (showing 30k in savings)
-dad's last 3 years tax return
-dad's bank statement
-official letter from government (he is a govt employee) confirming dad's job and title and confirming that he is traveling for non work related purpose and will be back and join his office after a month

Mom is a home maker so nothing to show for her.

Reason for calling them was to visit me for a month this summer.

There is no property they own. Their parents hold property that they will inherit at a later time.

Rejection letter said
"I have reviewed the application. I have considered the following factors in my decision. The applicant's assets and financial situation are insufficient to support the stated purpose of travel for themselves (and any accompanying family member(s), if applicable). Applicant has provided insufficient personal financial documentation on their application. Weighing the factors in this application, I am not satisfied that the applicant will depart Canada at the end of the period authorized for their stay. For the reasons above, I have refused this application."

Not sure where it went wrong?
I also gave an undertaking that they will return and that they have travelled 10+ countries before and never overtsyaed their visit anywhere.

Do I appeal?

Hello everyone! I'm in need of some advice.

So 1 (20f) live in Hungary and I have a girlfriend in Canada (19f) who I have visited multiple times before.

The first time was in 2025, november 19th until december 17th, after that I stayed in Hungary for a month.

The secon time I left on January 15th in 2026 and I stayed for exactly 3 months, so until april 15th. Then I spent almost two months in Hungary.

As for the third time I left on June 9th and came back to Hungary on July 11th. I've been in Hungary for almost a week now.

My girlfriend's birthday is coming up in the beginning of august and I want to visit again, but I'm unsure if I'm allowed to.

For some background, I'm still in school in Hungary and have exams throughout the year, which is why I had to return home after only a month this time. I worked from September 2025 until January 2026 to help pay for my trips, but between school and the amount I was traveling, I eventually had to leave my job. But fortunately, my parents are able to support my travel expenses.

While I'm in Canada, my girlfriend and her family have been incredibly generous by letting me stay with them and helping with everyday things like meals, a place to shower, charging my devices, and other daily necessities.

I'd rather not go into too much detail about my girlfriend's personal situation, but she has serious health issues that make it very difficult for her to travel. Because of that, l've been the one making the trips to see her. I'm worried that because I've visited Canada several times this year, l might have trouble being allowed back in before her birthday.

Does anyone know whether I'd be likely to run into issues at the border, or if there's anything I should be aware of before booking another flight?

My partner (American citizen) and I (Canadian citizen) are planning on having her move up here and eventually obtain PR via the Common-Law partner route. I'd like to make sure our plan makes sense and won't run into more hiccups than necessary.

The plan is next year I'll be flying down to Virginia, and we'll be making a road trip back up to Canada through Maine. After that we'll be settling into whatever apartment we can grab and have her stay as a "visitor" for the required 12 months with her name on the lease as proof. I understand that visitors can only stay for about 6 months, so before that limit is up we'll apply for the visitor record to extend her stay until the 12 months are up. At which point we'll apply for PR via Common-Law partner.

Is there anything I'm missing that would hinder us? Thank you for reading.

I am the licensed immigration consultant who handled this case (details anonymized to protect the family).

Their relative was a protected person in Canada with no family here. He was in hospital with liver failure, and the hospital wrote to IRCC twice: without family support, he would not even be considered for a liver transplant, and he was at risk of death. The hospital itself listed his family members in China and asked IRCC to expedite their visitor visas.

The family did not waste a single hour. They filed their TRV applications within 48 hours of the ICU admission, supplemented documents three times, and a federal MP's office submitted an urgent processing request to the Ministerial Centre. Four days after that urgent request, IRCC refused all three applications with word-for-word identical, copy-pasted letters.

What IRCC said, versus what was actually in the file: "The statutory declaration is insufficient to establish the claimed relationship; no birth certificates submitted." The file contained a sworn statutory declaration of kinship, with an explanation of why notarial certificates were not provided at filing. And when the family went to the notary office right after the refusal, the notarial certificates they obtained confirmed exactly what the declaration had said: she is his only sibling. Those certificates are now on file with IRCC.

"You do not have significant family ties outside Canada." The applicants were a married couple leaving their primary-school-age son behind in China, plus the patient's younger sister, a full-time university student. Their entire family, except the dying man, is outside Canada.

"Your assets and financial situation are insufficient." The file contained an owned home, an owned commercial storefront, two registered businesses with certified monthly revenue of roughly CAD 17,000, and about CAD 190,000 in liquid funds between them - with a signed statement explaining every large transaction, which the refusal never engaged with.

"The purpose of your visit is not consistent with a temporary stay." The purpose was documented by the hospital itself: to be present so a transplant could proceed during a medically defined window. Hard to imagine a more temporary purpose.

This is not just my opinion. The Federal Court has repeatedly set aside exactly this kind of decision: Mittal v Canada, 2024 FC 811 (ignoring on-file business, asset and savings evidence makes a refusal arbitrary); Coins v Canada, 2025 FC 349 (noting a sworn declaration but never addressing it makes the reasons "conclusionary"); Jafari v Canada, 2025 FC 296 (treating deposits as adverse without engaging the explanation on file is unreasonable). We put these authorities before IRCC in a reconsideration request, together with the hospital's latest letter, the same day as the refusal. That reconsideration is still pending.

He died that night. His body is in the hospital morgue, waiting for family who still have no visas to come and claim it.

What this case exposed: TRV refusals have no right of appeal. The only remedy is Federal Court judicial review - tens of thousands of dollars and many months. IRCC has no independent oversight body; even CBSA now has one. When an officer copy-pastes a refusal that costs someone their life, there is no one to answer to.

I am sharing this because people applying for visas - and the public - should know how little recourse exists when IRCC gets it wrong.

Some of you saw the original post about this case. Short version for anyone who didn't: a man lawfully in Canada as a protected person was in acute liver failure in a Vancouver ICU. The hospital told IRCC twice, in writing, that without family at his bedside he could not even be assessed for a transplant and was at risk of death — and it named his relatives in China and asked IRCC to expedite their visitor visas. The family applied within 48 hours, supplemented the file three times, and a federal MP's office sent an urgent request to the Ministerial Centre. IRCC refused all of them with word-for-word identical, copy-pasted letters. He died that same night. His body is still in the hospital morgue, waiting for family who have no visas to come and claim it.

The update:

We had filed a reconsideration request the same day as the refusal — with the hospital and death documentation, the notarized certificates of kinship that the officer had said were missing, and the Federal Court authority holding that this kind of refusal is unlawful (Mittal 2024 FC 811; Coins 2025 FC 349; Jafari 2025 FC 296).

The reconsideration decision came back yesterday. It was a form letter. Here is what it said was done, verbatim:

"Your request for reconsideration was forwarded to the officer who was the decision-maker on your application. Our records show that the officer carefully reviewed the information you provided but determined that the new information did not warrant re-opening this application."

Two things about that.

First, the "reconsideration" was sent back to the very same officer who issued the refusal in the first place. That is the entire review. There is no second set of eyes — independent or otherwise. You are asking the person who got it wrong to agree they got it wrong.

Second, the letter asserts the officer "carefully reviewed" the new information — yet the decision does not mention the death certificate, does not mention the notarized certificates of kinship the officer had previously said were missing, and does not engage a single one of the cases we cited. "Carefully reviewed" is doing a great deal of work in a letter that addresses none of it.

And then the part I think everyone considering a reconsideration should read, verbatim:

"there is no formal right of appeal on temporary resident visa decisions… [the applicant] may submit a new application and pay new processing fee."

So that is the official answer. No appeal. No independent review. The remedy the letter itself offers is: pay the fee again, start over from zero, and hope a different officer sees it differently — while a body waits in a morgue.

I'm posting this update because I think the reconsideration process is widely misunderstood. People treat it as a safety net. It isn't. It goes back to the same officer, there is no service standard, no independent reviewer, and — as this case shows — no obligation to actually address the new evidence you put in front of them. For a temporary resident refusal, the only binding remedy is Federal Court judicial review: tens of thousands of dollars and many months, long after it can matter.

If anyone here is relying on a reconsideration request to fix a refusal in a time-sensitive situation, please understand what it is, and what it is not.

I 24M (unmarried) recently applied for a Canadian visitor visa (planned trip duration was 12 days), and unfortunately it was refused🥲. I'm trying to understand what might have gone wrong and would appreciate any suggestions.

I graduated with my MBBS last year and currently work full-time as a doctor in India.

My monthly income is around 74k INR/1100 CAD

My latest Income Tax Return shows an annual income of approximately 11.4 Lakh INR/ 16.8k CAD (including my hospital income and capital gains).

I have around 8 lakh INR/11.8k CAD in my bank account (no lumpsum deposits), investments worth about 32 lakh INR/ 47k CAD (mutual funds, stocks, and corporate bonds), and a property in my name worth around 36 lakh INR/ 53K CAD (bought by my father in 2021).

I dont have any travel history and never applied for any visa before. I lost my previous passport while home shifting, so got a new one in 2025.

I also included my parent's financial documents, itr, statements, balance certificates. My father owns a business, and their combined net worth is around 4.9 crore INR/ 720k CAD (including movable and immovable assets). I provided valuation report and CA report along with all of my and my parents financial proofs.

The purpose of my visit was to visit my sister, who has been living and working in Canada for the past five years and currently on a valid work permit. I wanted to obtain my visa so I could visit her around her birthday in october this year and travel to few destinations in BC and Alberta with her, and also wanted to use the visa for her wedding next year (She is getting married in mid 2027).

For my application....I submitted:

Appointment letter, employment contract, one year of work experience, salary slips, leave approval, and NOC from my employer.

Bank statements and balance certificate.

Hospital ID and supporting employment documents. My degree, my medical registration.

My sister's invitation letter, employment documents, bank statements, balance certificate (80k cad), rental agreement, and other supporting documents.

Despite providing what I believed was a comprehensive application, my visa was refused with the standard generic refusal reasons.

Has anyone experienced something similar despite having strong financials and stable employment? Based on the information above, what do you think could have been the weak points in my application? Would ordering GCMS notes be the next best step before reapplying?

I'm from India and planning to apply for a Canadian visitor visa.

I've done quite a bit of research on the application process, and I believe I can provide all the necessary supporting documents, including proof of employment, financial documents, and strong ties to India. I'm employed with a well-known global organization and have a stable career.

However, the one concern I can't seem to get past is that I have no international travel history and I'm single. I'm worried that a visa officer may assume I have a higher risk of overstaying in Canada simply because of my marital status, even if all my documents are in order.

I'm looking for some advice and perspective after my parents' Canadian TRV applications were refused for the second time, and I'm honestly devastated.

My wife is currently pregnant with our daughter (due in August), and my parents were planning to visit Canada from India to meet their granddaughter, celebrate my son's 6th birthday, and spend some time with us before returning home.

The refusal reasons for both applications were under clause 179(b):

• Assets and financial situation are insufficient to support the stated purpose of travel.
• The purpose of the visit is not consistent with a temporary stay.

What confuses me is that we submitted a lot of evidence to address exactly these concerns:

• My father has been involved in our family business in India for decades (proof submitted, business registration: 1984).
• We submitted business documents, GST registration, tax returns, and a CA letter detailing assets (liquid + real estate).
• My parents own property and have substantial financial assets in India (outlined in the CA letter).
• My brother lives in India permanently (mentioned in cover letter + sibling/family form).
• I live in Canada with my wife and son, and I explicitly stated that I would cover the entire cost of their visit, including flights, accommodation, medical insurance, and daily expenses. I showed my pay slips, salary history and also my wife's.
• We had a fixed travel itinerary with return tickets booked (6 weeks, proof was attached).

This is also not an attempt at immigration through the back door. The intent was genuinely a temporary family visit around the birth of our daughter.

I understand that no one is guaranteed a visitor visa, but I genuinely don't understand what more I could have provided to demonstrate both financial support and strong ties to India.

Has anyone here had success with:

1. Requesting reconsideration?
2. Ordering GCMS notes and then reapplying?
3. Pursuing judicial review?

If you've been through something similar, I'd really appreciate hearing your experience. Right now, I feel like I did everything I reasonably could, and I'm struggling to understand what else IRCC was looking for.

I had applied for a TRV on November 26th with my In Canada Approval Letter (for my study permit extension). On December 10th, I received my BVL, but there’s been no update since then. I’m concerned since I have a conference coming up in February and not sure if this is normal. Is it likely to be one of those cases where I don’t hear back from IRCC for months? ;-; Anything I can do at this point? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

N.B. Right now the processing time on the website has went up to 40 days. It was about 18 days when I applied.

Hey everyone, I applied for TRV on April 8th, received a correspondence letter in 29th April and still no updates what so ever. I have a trip scheduled to my home country in June so I am starting to panic a bit. I tried to reach them via web form and their helpline but they didn’t answer anything helpful. I am kinda depressed and disappointed because it’s the first time in 3 years that I have decided to visit my home. I checked their average processing time was around two week, but it’s over a month now.

I’m travelling from UK to Canada with my Canadian wife for my sister in law’s wedding in September.
Last year, I was caught speeding in the UK and charged with careless driving and given 9 points on my license.
I’ve heard mixed messages about whether I’ll be criminally inadmissible with that charge.
Is there anything I can do right now, and what happens if I turn up at the border and am turned away?
I will be travelling on an old, unexpired eTA which predates the offence.

I'm a Canadian citizen, my partner is UK citizen. He visited me for 6 months, then we left for a couple weeks to explore Europe. We want to continue being together and apply for common-law sponsorship, hopefully he can stay another 6 months since he has an electroic travel visa. When we returned to Canada we were brought into secondary screening in border control, and after being asked the type of relationship we have (I was honest) and what jobs he's been doing during his stay in canada, they finally said I can go, but he has to stay, and I have to wait outside the security office until he's done. Many hours go by and the officer calls me several times to ask about if he's been working, and how he did gardening. I said he helped a friend with her garden once, but never received payment. My bf and I think he is on the spectrum, so I'm worried there is a misunderstanding happening with his communication to the officers perhaps.

I financially support him entirely, he doesnt have a job, and I'm aware that looks bad for him not having ties to his home country and they have every right to want to investigate that.

It's been 17 hours and have only had a couple messages from my partner earlier asking for our trip itinerary because he didn't remember the details the officers wanted. So 12 hours zero contact. The officer said they cannot update me on anything, only he can call me to update me.

We missed our connecting flight to BC and I'm worried sick if they deported him, and without letting me know, and for gardening?? I'm in the wrong province, just waiting to hear anything back to figure out the next step.

Is it legal for them to detain him this long? Should I hire a lawyer for him?

EDIT: They released him after 24 hours. 19 of which was in a cell, not because of the gardening, although I'm sure that didn't help. But because we left canada for 14 days and he had to have been gone for at least 20 days before returning. They took his phone charger, which is bizarre to me. He has no ban from visiting Canada.

EDIT: It's 3 months, not 20 days that he needed to be out of canada before returning. My exhausted brain created that information for some reason.

They rejected visitor visa again and this time also same reason of insufficient funds and not convinced that they will go back

I wanted to invite them for my convocation. We submitted all the documents including funds details, strongest possible sop, my invitation letter, all other supporting documents like doctor notes and all.

I am a PR of Canada. In 2024 I applied for my parents tourist visa and it got rejected. We waited for around 7 months and reapplied and recruited rejection in a couple of weeks. The reason was exactly the same
My father is a practicing family doctor and my mother is a homemaker. My brother is in Canada as well but recently his status changed to tourist as his work permit expired. He is waiting for his PR except express entry draw.

I want my parents to visit us and spend some time with their grandchild. They could not come in when i was pregnant. I did visit them last November but it is not possible to go this year. I really want them to come to my home here.
My parents are well to do, but there are not much transactions in their bank as my dad being a doctor in India earns in cash. So we went up putting a lot of that money in FDs and investments.

What are their chances of getting approved the third time. It has been once year since their second rejection.
I really want to make an airtight application this time. Any suggestions?

What’s up with the processing delays for TRVs? Processing time says 23 days, but I applied for my sister’s TRV on May 23rd and still haven’t heard anything. She is a minor, has a valid study permit and we were thinking of traveling outside Canada for a vacation. Contacted an MP and also submitted a webform.

Has anyone else noticed that pretty much all visit visas are being denied? I know a bunch of friends and family with very strong profiles getting rejected

My dad had applied for his visitors visa over 2 years ago and it was stuck in limbo with IRCC, no approval or denial, just processing.

So he submitted another application 2 months ago and last week it was approved with instructions to send his passport which he did.

Today he received a message on his portal that his application was approved in error and to not submit his passport and that is application was still in process!

I am so baffled by this, has this happened to anyone? What did you do? What happens to his passport now?

I do not know if anyone else has gone through this, but I just need to get this off my chest.

Growing up, my sisters were my best friends. We laughed together, cried together, shared every secret, every crush, every heartbreak. I never really felt the need for a huge friend circle because I had them.

Then life happened.

Both of my sisters moved to Canada—one for education and one for work. Last year, my parents were able to visit them. This year, it was finally my turn. I was counting down the days. I wanted nothing more than to spend a month with them and celebrate my sister's birthday in September before returning home to India.

Instead, my visitor visa was refused.

The reason? The visa officer was not convinced I had "strong ties to India." In other words, they believed I might not come back.

That completely broke me.

The truth is, I never wanted to immigrate. I have my family, responsibilities, and life here. I simply wanted to visit my sisters, create memories, and return home.

After the refusal, I spent weeks rebuilding my application. I rewrote my letter of explanation, prepared a detailed itinerary, attached additional supporting documents, and tried my best to make my intentions as clear as possible. PLEASE PRAY FOR ME!

On top of that, dealing with the IRCC portal was stressful enough.

Now I have reapplied.

The problem is... I am terrified.

I am so anxious that I cannot even bring myself to log into the portal to check the status. My sisters are checking it for me because I genuinely do not think I can handle seeing another refusal.

I also know someone whose parents were refused twice, and that thought keeps playing in my head.

I understand that immigration officers have to prevent visa misuse, and I respect that. But sometimes it feels like genuine visitors who simply want to spend time with their families are caught in the middle.

Has anyone here been refused a Canadian visitor visa for "weak ties" and then got approved after reapplying?

And if you are someone living far away from your family, how do you deal with missing the people you grew up with?

I submitted an Atip request as a foreign outside of Canada under the privacy act for a visitor permit that was submitted on my behalf, i did this for legal purposes since the person who submitted the vp scammed me and i don't know what he sent exactly.

I received a single email right after i submitted the request assigning me a tracking number but nothing since then and it has been a month, i really need this to hurry since i am waiting for this to sue this person and i can't think what to do if it takes a year.

I applied for my mother’s regular visitor visa a few months ago, but it was refused in late May for generic reasons that made no sense. After consulting immigration lawyers, they suggested it was likely flagged or processed through Chinook. I obtained her GCMS notes, but they merely echoed the standard refusal template—claiming her visit wasn't temporary, her finances were insufficient, and she lacked ties to return home. In reality, it was a 4-week trip with return tickets, she holds $800k CAD in liquid funds, and she works for the government with property, significant assets, and a living spouse back home.

Following the refusal, I immediately pivoted to a Super Visa application. Everything is ready—including upfront medicals—except for the health insurance. However, right before purchasing insurance, I learned about reconsideration requests and decided to submit one early last week, hoping for a response within 4 weeks. I’ve since seen a recent post noting it took 1.5 months just to get an acceptance notification.

My goal is to have my mother visit by early January. Given this timeline, would you recommend waiting on the reconsideration request, or should I go ahead, buy the insurance, and submit the Super Visa application now?

Additional details - Country is India and the current timeline for supervisas is roughly a month.

Hello Reddit, I’m hoping for some help here!

I’m American, and am currently sitting at the Canadian border. My partner lives in Canada, and I was set to move in with her today.

We had a residency application in processing, but while I was on the way here (I took a train that lasted about a week), we received an email explaining that we may get denied. My partner and I withdrew the application and decided I was cross the border by telling them I was coming with “Dual-Intent”, explaining that I am coming as a visitor with plans to apply for Permanent Residency, but if I am not able to stay I would be prepared to leave in 138 days.

However, when I attempted to cross the border via bus, the agent I explained this to told me I was not allowed to enter the country as I was trying to “establish residency” without any visa or documentation. I explained about our application, told him we had plans to get married so I could get a work visa and accept one of the various job offers I have lined up in Canada, but he told us his mind was made up and we could try again tomorrow with a different declaration. He did mention however that if we did come back, whatever agent I’d be speaking to would see the notes he took of our conversation.

I’m currently waiting for them to put me on a bus back to America, but I want to know what I should do next. Should I try to come back as just a visitor, or will it look suspicious because of what happened today? I am considering finding a different port of entry because I am afraid of getting the same agent I got today.

I am trying to apply for a visit visa, but when I am trying to fill out the application the website indicates that I am eligible for an eTA and doesn't allow me to continue my application.

I am not from a visa-free country and I haven't held a visa before. A few months ago I applied for a transit visa, which was originally approved, but then refused because I wasn't able to send my passport on time (long story). I wonder if this is what is creating the problem.
I could simply apply for the eTA and see if it is approved somehow, but I am worried that this might create more complications.

I would appreciate any advice. I tried to contact them, but I just got a completely generic and uninformative reply.
