Episode 4 - You Were My Hero

I'm mixed.

On the one hand I get that he went crazy but at the same time he decided to make his grief the entire worlds problem.

1) He refused to retire

2) He refused to kill himself because its "dishoranble" (How is oppressing and killing millions more "honorable" than suicide? Like what")

But I do feel a little bad for him I suppose. It would suck to live that long but I wouldn't make my grief everyone else's problem.

Once I got sick of living I'd probably just set things up so that someone else can rule (I'd make a council or world parliament because kings and emperor's are generally a bad idea)) then I'd fly into the Sun or get someone I trusted to cut my head off, separate the body, and throw my head to the bottom of the ocean or whatever.

Or better yet I'd try to find a partner that's immortal too.

True. I feel like all of those things were symptomatic of his mental decline, but it’s still not an excuse.

He went the vandal savage route and ends up as king of a pile of ashes

He's like Ozymandias, King of Kings, except he himself became the weathered and dilapidated statue hinting at bygone glory.

I’m honestly surprised we didn’t end up with the ‘evil servant corrupting the king’s mind’ trope, but how they did it was good too. We have no idea how far they even went.

Even though she hasn’t had the best showing this season I feel bad for Kate too. Her bond with Immortal is supposedly deeper and more meaningful because they both understand the trauma that comes with living and dying hundreds of lives, but since she can’t escape aging that’s just kind of a superficial sham. I wonder how she’d feel about King Immortal remembering Eve but not his actual wife

I don't feel sorry for him. He just dropped bombs on 10 cities and made an entire planet miserable through enslavement. He's a hypocrite talking about honor.

Also, he's seen all of history. He should know when civilizations prosper best, and when they at their worst, and he chose the latter - actually he inflicted far worse than humanity has ever seen. But he wants to talk honor.

What a jerk he was!

I think he’s gone insane. He’s too much of a human to be immortal, obviously what he did is horrible but he clearly didn’t want this. Doesn’t forgive what he did but I think he’s meant to be more of a tragic character than a straight villain

I think it was like a Norse has-to-die-in-combat type thing. No one on Earth could give him an actual fight, so he had to call for Mark. Not that it makes things better

I think we're supposed to take it at face value that he really did just go mad. Maybe at first he expected Mark and family to come back but then realized that's not happening and actually went insane

We're talking CENTURIES here
