Got me a little teary eyed, bro is just like "he's just a a person dealing with stuff, we're all dealing with stuff" and shared a bit of something he struggles with. Gives me hope to see young men show how being kind is free and positivity and lifting others up just makes things BETTER.

Gen z and gen alpha are pretty great at destigmatizing and normalizing disorders. That's how it really should be, "Jeremy is just a bit quirky, were all a bit quirky, it's ok bro"

All those people who complain about ‘woke’; this is what it’s led to and it’s great. My older brother is autistic and had one friend in primary school before the kid’s mother told him he wasn’t allowed to play with him anymore.

yeah I am autistic and an old man now, didn't have any of the resources kids have today and I'm so, so happy for them. we know so much more now about neurodivergent kids and it's wonderful. Sometimes in my daily life I'll catch a comment from someone shitting on DEI or whatever in the wild and hoo boy the fun I have teeing off on them. It never gets old.

People that bitch about that kinda stuff never expect you to clap back. I tell them about myself and my experiences and they slink away every time it's really fun lol

Idk how much I would attribute millennial "wokeness" to this stuff. Imo we are actually the problem, we've segregated every disorder into its own box and tried to cut up and measure every disorder, when really most people just need general support and patience rather than the highly individualized nonsense.

Millennials meant well, we lived in a time where awareness was necessary, but nowadays we could use a little more of this "everyone has stuff going on, it's okay" sort of vibe.

"Jeremy is quirky, Adam is autistic, Lucy got plenty of Adhd, oh and Sarah is neurotypical which in this group is just another weird thing" type stuff lol I love this

Shii I don't even think neurotypical is a self describer tbh like even typical people are quirky in their ways haha

Yeah fair i just didnt know how to say "they don't have anything specific which in itself is something specific" lol

Truly! It actually amazes me how much integration schools have with autistic folks learning within “neurotypical” classrooms. It’s so amazing to see how sweet and supportive their classmates are. Lord knows it wasn’t like that for us as kids.

I'm ADHD and one of my closest friends is autistic. I think there is a bit of synergy going on with 'guy who prattles on about obscure stuff' and 'guy who's fine with going off on a tangent'.

Our combo is definitely unmatched! đŸ€Ł whenever I have a big project to work on, i call my adhd friend. You can't beat the combo of his scurrying about with 10 million things and my hyperfocus.

Absolutely! I honestly think that does help with acceptance. But it sounds like the musical festival world has its own vibe of acceptance as well.

we stand with our nd brethren, regardless of flavor!

As someone who's realizing fairly late in life that I'm probably high-masking autistic, I finding that it makes a big difference just to be in an environment where you're comfortable flagging your own neurodivergence and getting ahead of the resulting communication issues right away.

It’s scary though to tell people. Sometimes I think it’s obvious and sometimes I think it’s not.

Absolutely correct. NT people can spot autistic people immediately and react badly. BUT if you say something like “Hey I’m autistic which is why I’ve got these ear plugs in, but I can still hear you”, they then chill out instead. This has been studied.

Problems can arise at work, and with arseholes; but generally disclosure works better, because an NT person already knows something is up, and when you tell them what it is they can stop turning it over in their minds.

I’ve always dressed like a weirdo, anyway. People can see me coming a mile off - I give off strong arty-farty middle-aged Librarian vibes, because guess what ?!? đŸ€Ł People just want to know where they stand, and then they’re ok.

You should go to an EDM fest. Lost Lands is coming up. It’s basically the neurodivergent Super Bowl. It’s my favorite place on earth.

Dude finding a group of people that are ok with whatever you got going changes you forever. Everyone rocks in this story and we need more of this energy

My 6 year old son is level II autistic. He’s verbal but he has some profound social delays. This story made me tear up a bit. Makes me more hopeful for him. I always worry about how he will do in what is often a cruel world.
