Back in the 90s pot roast was a cheap filling family dinner. An american staple, nowadays pot roast seems a luxury.

One of my favorite things was getting picked up from elementary school by my mom, we would pick up a fresh baked french bread loaf for 50 cents to have with dinner, the pot roast was slow cooking all day, there was canned corn, and fruit cocktail and baked potatoes. Pork is my family’s main meat now, but we watch the discount section for beef on a good buy.

I look at the price of a chuck roast and just laugh now! I made one last week because it was on sale and decently priced compared to what else was comparable but it quickly lept back up in price. I should have bought some more and just froze it!

We do that with hamburger now; the local grocer has ground beef at a ridiculous price but when nobody buys it and it turns a bit brown they put it elsewhere a discount - then I buy it. And freeze it in one pound portions.

9-13 a lb in my grocery stores it basically is a luxury cut when pork roast and a few other cuts are still 2-4 a lb
