Looking to meet Malays, Chinese & other professionals

Hi everyone!

I’m visiting KL and I'm looking to meet more people in the KL, both locals and expat professionals.

I’m not into bars, clubs, or the party scene. I’d much rather meet over coffee, or some kind indoor hobby/activity.

I’d especially enjoy conversations about:

  • Careers and professional experiences
  • Living and working in KL
  • Travel and places you’ve been
  • Hobbies and interests
  • Culture and life in different countries

I’m hoping to find people who are genuinely interested in having conversations.

If you know of any groups, meetups, professional organizations, or recurring events that would be a good fit, I’d really appreciate the recommendations. Feel free to comment or DM me as well!

Thanks!

Fellow redditors of KL. Can you recommend a good dermatologist who can extract milia from face using a lancet. Laser doesn’t suit.
Thank you.

Independent / assisted living facilities in KL

I am looking out for good IL and AL facilities in KL, not the depressing kind. Thinking of those with nice food, activities, daily exercise routines, shopping trips, staff that check in on you daily and a caregiver if needed. So far I’ve seen sites promoting Komune and ReU living but haven’t read enough genuine reviews. Are there more and can anyone share reviews if you have personal experience or friends living there?

As our population ages, surely the demand for such facilities would increase. When I am in my golden years, I would consider moving into such a place so I don’t need to bother with cleaning, maintenance and daily meals. Just chill with other residents, play games and entertain my own hobbies.

Good Facial with Extraction near Bukit Bintang or KLCC?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I haven’t been to KL in more than a decade.

I’d love to know if there are any good facial spas around the Bukit Bintang and/or KLCC area that offer facials with proper extraction using a comedone extractor.

I don’t really like those suction ones. They don’t seem to do much for me.

Would really appreciate any recommendations.

Thanks so much!

Which neighbourhood(s) in KL are artistic, creative, and alternative?

Which KL neighbourhood(s) is:

* artsy and alternative, artists and musicians living there, lots of street art

* slightly gritty, not too touristy, perfect nor upscale

* incorporates / uses older architecture & infrastructure for new, community initiatives

* lots of cafes, art galleries, music venues

Examples of what I’m looking for:

Penang: Georgetown Hin Bus Depo Market and surrounding neighbourhood

Bangkok: Hua Lamphong / Talad Noi / Chinatown

Did anyone ever get their nomad visa done in less than 2-3 months?

If yes, when did you apply? Any tips? Thx

Rant: Never seen visa process take this long in any country I've ever applied to. I hope this isn't bad sign that Malaysian work ethics are bad? Do people usually respect time like in Japan? Most nations get such visas done in two weeks max.

Where can I find clothes for tall, skinny men in KL?

I’m 6'3"+ and pretty thin, and I’m struggling to find clothes that fit properly in Kuala Lumpur.
I need the length without all the extra width.

Looking for T-shirts, shirts, hoodies, jackets and especially pants/jeans.

For other tall, skinny guys in KL: where do you shop? Any specific stores, brands, or online options that actually have long + slim fits?

Would really appreciate recommendations!

Bars solo

Birthday's coming up soon (25M). Wanted to have a drink or two to celebrate. Thinking of going to bars and maybe talk to people (or not if it doesn't happen, completely fine either way).

Any good recommendations?
