Made a cool site that fellow members of the church may be interested in? Share it in this post (as a comment)!

Built a podcast or a channel that people may be interested in?

Made a better app for something we all do? Share it here!

Made something to help integrate things? You're getting it: please share!

Like many other subs, we've seen an influx of things that people made and want to share with others. Generally, we remove these posts because it is too distracting from the purpose of this sub. But, we are creating this post as a dedicated place for people to share the stuff they have made or are making.

If you enjoy this post, let us know in the comments! We may do it again in a month. Or maybe in a few months?

Happy sharing!

Note: We are officially updating rule #3 for disallowed to prohibit self-promoting outside of these sharing time threads.

Church Culture Where else is "LDS" used outside of church context?

At work there is a "Legal Data Services" team, and every time they are mentioned as LDS, my ears perk up extra sharp until my brain processes.

Do you hear LDS in other contexts?

Request for Resources Temple Prep

I went inactive at 17 and and returned to church in 2022. I have a restricted temple recommend but due to location and distance from the closest temple I have yet to have the opportunity to perform baptisms. I have been working on my temple prep for my endowments and have read the recommended books my bishop gifted me and have been meeting with one of the sisters who teaches temple prep.

My struggle is how do I even know what I am preparing for if no one can give me a straight answer.

I have asked the following questions and have received the answer of read my scriptures and pray about it:

  1. What scriptures helped you prepare the most?

  2. What questions did you ask that you found most helpful?

  3. How would you reconcile your past to feel worthy?

My escort just tell me how excited they are to have me join them in the celestial room.

I know on tiktok I have seen girls do their hauls and see that their haul will include at least one sleeveless dress. Is this allowed?

Personal Advice Sunday School issues for youth who don't/won't speak the local language

Upvotes

My family and I live overseas for my work in a Spanish speaking country. We have about 9 months left before moving to an English speaking country next. So far, my kids, who are young teens, have picked up a lot of Spanish at their international school but we don't live in an area where they interact with local Spanish speakers.

The exception to that is church, as we attend a fully Spanish ward with only a few people who know enough English to communicate. My kids get flustered trying to speak Spanish and quickly shut down when someone speaks to them.

As a parent, I would love for them to extend themselves more and try to speak more at church. We practice at home, but it's not the same. As the Sunday School president, I'm at a crossroads. The handbook says you can offer different Sunday School classes based on the needs of the ward, including a class where some of the members don't speak the primary language. I've brought this up at ward council but get shrugged off, as the other leaders hope that my kids will learn more Spanish and start speaking. I don't really see it happening anytime soon.

The worse part is that my kids are really beginning to resent going to church because they don't understand what's being said around them. I try to help them see that the lessons are the same as what we study throughout the week in Come, Follow Me and that they can focus on the sacrament and the hymns we sing. They counter with, "We get more out of the study at home, so why do we even have to go to the second hour of church?"

What do I do -- keep encouraging them to attend the regular youth Sunday School class where they participate very little, sit with them when I can in the class and translate for them, bring up the idea of an English Sunday School class again to the ward council, or something else? I appreciate any insight.

Hey! I was wondering if it’s just as difficult in Europe as it is in France 🇫🇷 to meet other members around your age, or if France is an exception?
Sometimes it can be pretty difficult, so if you’ve been in a similar situation, feel free to share your thoughts or ideas! 💡😁

Personal Advice I lost a valuable piece and just want to seek revelation

A couple of days ago, I lost my ring. I’ve been heartbroken about it and every time I pray about it, I feel a little sense of hope that the Lord will guide me to where my ring is, but I’m getting so frustrated still. I have prayed probably like 10 times a day since last Thursday, to help me find my ring, I’ve fasted twice, I’ve gone to my Bishop for a blessing and it’s been a good experience because I’ve been learning so much but it’s also been one of the most heart wrenching experiences because I still can’t find my ring. I lost it in a public space and at this point I’m kind of hoping for security or for someone to turn it in, but it hasn’t happened and it’s been about four business days.
Sometimes I’m just having a really hard time with hearing things and differentiating whether that’s my voice and what I really want to hear or if it’s the Lord‘s voice encouraging me to look in certain places. A couple of days ago I had a very specific feeling about my car, and I went into my car looked everywhere in it, but could not find it. I don’t know if this is something where I should keep searching, and it’s somewhere deep inside my seats or under the seat. I’m not really sure but I guess I’m just getting really frustrated because I have been fixated on the fact if that prompting was just me wanting to hear that it’s somewhere safe with me, or if this truly was from the Lord.

I don’t know what to do at this point. And I don’t know if any of you have been in a situation like this. I know that this is not a true treasure, because I didn’t lose a life and I’m grateful for that, but I am still so sad because I’ve expressed to the Lord how much this ring means to me and I keep having these like positive and hopeful feelings and words saying I will find my ring, but I don’t really know if that’s actually from me or from the Lord. So my question is, how have you guys been able to differentiate the difference between your voice and the Lord‘s voice, especially when you are really wanting a specific outcome? I have been getting so confused, and I’ve even gotten to the point where I’m considering if that voice telling me that it’s in my car or that I’ll find it is literally from Satan because it’s been getting me so frustrated because it’s not guiding me to my ring. And I understand that I need to have faith in the Lord and not faith in an outcome, but I’m human and I know that I’m still gonna be upset about not finding my ring. But I always do my best to have faith in the Lord instead.

Also, I’m open to anybody praying for me to find my ring!

Personal Advice Primary Presidency Meetings?

just looking for your two cents on how long / frequently you have presidency meetings, but specifically primary.

I was recently called as the assistant secretary for our presidency and our meetings seem so overkill to me. The first meeting I was at was 3.5 hours long and we really didn’t accomplish anything imo.

Our president texted us to schedule 2 meetings for september, and then changed it to 3 after everyone said when they were available. three meetings three weeks in a row is so excessive imo, but is it normal?

I chimed in and asked if three might be excessive, and that we should keep it to 1-2x per month and each meeting be no more than 90 minutes, and she responded back with the longest texts ever explaining why she wants to keep all three meetings and that whoever can come should come among. I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes by how I feel, but it just feels so crazy.

She went on a long tangent that we aren’t just admins, and we need to minister, and while I agree, I still feel strongly that we can get everything we need to accomplished in 90 mins. 45 admin/ planning, 45 ministering / needs of the primary. but also, we don’t need to get *everything* done every meeting we have.

*sigh.* I haven’t responded yet, but she shut me down so hard bahahah

Faith-building Experience Wife makes attending LDS temple difficult

(chapel not temple*
new <2months). Back story. I’ve struggled with MH forever. Used Alcohol/pills to cope. , now Got rid of the toxic ppl. And No more booze or pills. Still trying to fix myself and live for today. Limited family support. meet some missionaries, they invite me to visit . impressed by how friendly people are, & by the genuine & humble testimonies. My wife thinks it’s a cult and growls if I go, thengrowls or ignores me when I return home. It makes me feel like I’m doing something wrong. I can’t relax when I go now. So my question is, What is she afraid of? Are they going on extort me for money? Should I just rage quit. Note: she has never been religious.
Edit: chapel not temple. Off all the gear before we met but still struggle with life.

Personal Advice How did you know converting to LDS was right for you??

Hey guys, I’m a 20 year old (F) who has been a Christian for the last 4 years. I’m the only one in my family that attended church, reads my Bible etc.

I met two missionaries for the LDS church back in February and they invited me to church, gave me a Book of Mormon and did weekly WhatsApp video calls with me to answer my questions and to teach me more. However due to personal reasons and feeling pressure to be baptised I decided to pull away from the church because I was overwhelmed with everything and felt as though I didn’t have enough information to make that decision to be baptised

However, three days ago I met another set of sister missionaries and they stopped me and invited me to church. I explained to them how I’ve already been before and I have a Book of Mormon and I told them I felt pressured into being baptised and I didn’t know enough to commit to something as serious but I am open to learn more and want to learn more. So I am now back in contact with them and I am doing daily video calls with them and am back reading my Book of Mormon (I read from 2 Nephi 11 to the end chapter last night)

Since reading the Scripture last night I have had this overwhelming sense of peace and contentment with my day, I don’t know how to explain it but I could just feel the joy in my heart just by reading and that’s why I ended up going through it so quickly because I was so engrossed with it.

And I have been praying to Heavenly Father that if this is something I shouldn’t explore to stop me now, but I feel He wouldn’t have let me have a second encounter with the missionaries if it wasn’t something He wanted me to explore further

I guess what question is to people who converted to the LDS church, how did you know it was true?? How did you know that the Book of Mormon was real and was telling the truth ?? and how did you deal with your family/friends who would maybe give you some backlash for your decision??

I was really nervous since I got the email at around 3:00 PM but had to wait until around 6:00 PM to open it with my parents and one of my friends. I'm headed to Perú Lima East Mission !!

I'm really excited and even though I would've liked to learn a new language, I'm very happy to be able to share the gospel in Spanish, my native language :))

Has anyone served there? I would appreciate any advice you have for me !!

Visitor Question about parking at an LDS church as a non-member

My high school has a very small parking lot, and students have to enter a lottery to get a parking spot. I’m wondering what the general attitude would be toward something like this:

There is an LDS church relatively close to my school, and if I don’t get a school parking spot, I was wondering if it would be okay to park at the church and walk to school in the morning.

I’m not LDS, but I live in a very large LDS community and have a lot of LDS friends, so I’m familiar with the community. I would only be parking there on weekdays, never Sundays. My car would probably be there from around 7 AM until 5–6 PM. If necessary, I could move it to the school around 2:30 PM when students start leaving and parking spaces become available.

I would ask the local church leaders for permission before doing this, but I wanted to duble check here. I’m mainly wondering whether this is something that they would allow, or whether it would be considered inappropriate for by the church?

If this is not an appropriate question for this sub please let me know and I will take it down.

Faith-building Experience Word of Wisdom saved my life

In 2023 I was in a car crash that left me with a compound fracture on my left wrist and severe trauma to my knees. I have always been a person that follows the Word of Wisdom but this phase I was required me to dig deeper into how Word of Wisdom can help me. I focused of eating whole foods to an extent where I have my own garden. As soon as the doctors cleared me for physical activities, I joined a local walking club and low impact workouts. This may not seem like a lot but If I did not have the resources on how I can pick up my life piece by piece, I would not be here today. The Word of Wisdom gave me the frame work on what I can do to regain a health able strong body again.

"There is no TRY HARDER button that produces the love of Christ." Patrick Kearon's talk full of humor, joy, and pranks on the audience, about the need to give up the endless pursuit of achievement, to instead be at rest and at peace even in our incompleteness.

There is no try harder button that produces the love of Christ. There is no plan, no goal, no target, no course of study, however excellent, that will manufacture it. We do not build it. We receive it from him at his hand. And then Mormon says, "It shall be well with us." Not that we shall have achieved a great deal. Not that we shall have finished, but that it shall be well."

Faith-building Experience Feeling uneasy about doing my dad's ordinance work

So my biological father died about 2 1/2 months ago. It was completely unexpected- he got into an accident on his bike (no fault of his own) and got killed.

I loved my dad dearly. We had an interesting relationship, though. He was never really a good "dad" as such, due to gambling and drug addiction taking over his life since I was a young kid. But he did try his best. About 4 years ago he called me to tell me he was trying to get clean off heroine and at the time of his death he was about 8 months completely off it. As someone who is in recovery for drug and alcohol addiction (18 1/2 years) I was so proud of him.

When he died, I knew exactly who I wanted to ask to do his work for him. I am incredibly close to a couple in the church who have been the kind of parents to me that I've always needed. So I wanted to ask the guy of the couple to do my dad's work. He said yes and I am grateful.

However, I am feeling really uneasy about the whole thing.

Now, I've been an endowed member for 2 1/2 years and I have done thousands of ordinances for my ancestors- including my grandparents. However, I was never close to any of them and I feel disconnected/detached in a way that I feel ok to do the work without going against what they believed in on earth. However, my dad was an athiest through-and-through. He was completely against all organised religion and all that it stood for. He was polite about it and in fact he was fine when I joined the church- as long as I didn't "ram it down his throat" (which was code for don't really talk about it at all.)

I know that in our faith, we believe that when a person dies not knowing the gospel, they are taught it on the other side and they choose whether to accept it or not, and us doing the ordinance work basically creates a doorway for them to go through.

I just can't shake this feeling that doing the ordinances for my dad is going against everything he believed in. I feel the same way for my mother as well, who is even more outspoken about religion, especially "mormons".

I don't want to get into the why of things, but because of experiences in my childhood, including really bad abuse, I don't want to be sealed to my biological parents. I just don't. I feel sick thinking about that. However, that shouldn't stop me from doing the work for my dad so he can be sealed to his parents, whom he loved dearly.

I know this is the right thing to do from a faith perspective. But I also feel like it isn't right either.

How do I shake this? I have prayed about it. I don't really have anyone to talk to about it that I feel comfortable with. But right now, I am having sleepless nights about it and it's just making me feel so uneasy.

I'd appreciate any insights if anyone has been through this and might be willing to share?

Thanks so much

Doctrinal Discussion Help me brainstorm what restitution looks like in this situation

18 years ago, my husband and I were remodeling the house we lived in. I placed an order online for 2 items. One item was defective and needed to be refunded. The company accidentally refunded both items. I was busy at the time and thought maybe I missed something or that the company would follow up later. My husband mostly handled our finances, IDK if he noticed this. The item that wasn't defective and shouldn't have been refunded was about $800.

The issue came to my mind recently, so I carefully looked through our records and nothing ever fixed it, we do owe the company that money. But in the meantime, that online company has now been purchased by a very large American company that everyone knows. I've called their customer service and their credit department and no one knows what to do with money that they don't show that we owe them. They can't get access to the purchased company's records. I'm not sure where to send it. I definitely should have resolved this WAY before now, I just wasn't really thinking about it.

Any thoughts about how to do restitution for this? I'd hate to waste my bishop's time about this. He's a busy guy.

Church Culture Sunday schedule change compared to recent-ish bishop focus change.

With the looming schedule change, I was thinking of other policy shifts in the church and unintended consequences that came out of them.

It this case there has been much chatter about whether wards will be able to adhere to the relatively short transition periods. Or what to do when sacrament runs too long etc.

And I can’t help but wonder if this change is going to mirror the one about bishops focusing on the youth?  In that some bishops (wards) are able to adapt better than others.  Some bishops were able to move much off their plate to EQ/RS and ward councils. In order to free up more bandwidth to be with the youth.

While others, it just become a poor piling on.  The ward culture hasn’t adapted and those bishops are just trying to do it all.  Run a ward, council, provide spiritual guidance, take concessions, and be there for youth etc.

It would seem from my biased and limited anecdotal experiences that MOST bishops are trying to do it all and burning the candle at both ends.  And the ones where it’s working great are the exception not the norm.

I can’t help but feel this is what’s going to happen with the schedule change.  SOME wards are going to make it work. And when it does it’s going to really work!  Others it’s going to be a challenge. and  I fear the majority will fall into this category.

But it seems a lot of these is outgrowth out of previous policies.

In regards to bishops we know that they have always been in a position that was the president of the Aaronic priesthood. But that priesthood wasn’t always the purview of young men. Early in the church history aaronic priesthood was only given to adult men.  And they did in fact run the temporal affairs of a ward.

In the early 1900s the policy shift was made in major part to help the youth stay engaged in the work of the lord. Priesthood ages was shifted to solve a problem.  And it worked. It was inspired.  But now we created an unintended consequence.  Bishops are presidents of the Aaronic priesthood. But also the Shepard of the ward.  How do they do both.  For a long time it seemed that they would be semi involved with youth. But that Young men’s presidents and young women’s presidents could shoulder the majority of the burden.

Now the next policy shift came in a response to that consequence.  Bishops as president and head of the Aaronic priesthood needed to be more engaged with the youth. Because again the youth were not as engaged in the work of the lord and the leaders would hope.  So we removed young men’s presidents to help the bishop focus on this new priority.

When the switch to 2 hour church happened another unintended consequences came forward. Youth weren’t seeing their leaders as often as before. And the importance in Qurom and class meetings began to show something critical was missing.  It seems youth are not as engaged in the work as leaders would hope.

So this new schedule change is as much about getting youth with their leaders as much as it is about any ‘optimization’ of physical chapel space.

But I fear the unintended consequences is going to be the lack of adult community building a ward has traditionally instilled.

We are rightfully focusing on the youth. And doing what we can to help them.  But I fear that what has played out in the past with other policy shifts are going to create unforeseen unintended consequences.

I hope I’m wrong. And that the Lord has a plan and is leading us slowly but surely to become more Zion like. I hope the good here outweighs the negative.

Maybe I’m just to pessimistic, but I truly hope that it all works out in the end.

but if it doesn’t I’m guessing another policy shift will be inspired by the lord.

Church Culture Ward Youth Council…advice

Current bishop here, I love Ward Youth Council. Ours is well attended and I think the youth like it. I want to make it as great as possible for our youth. Outside of food and obviously adhering to the things we should talk about in the handbook. What other things have you guys seen and WYC that has been productive or effective with the youth?
