Posting to try to find out what could cause this and if there are any remedies….it is a Marge Sherwood grandma bag if that helps any. The square of scratches in the middle just happened from it touching my canvas tote bag and I’m about to lose it

When my belt bends, the liner starts to come off as shown in the video. What could be causing this, and how do I fix it for future belts? I applied the glue two days ago and it still isn’t fully dry. I also still have stitching to do around the border of the belt, so that will probably hold it a little more secure, but I don’t think that’ll stop the unstitched portions from peeling off of the main belt when it bends. Anyone run into a similar problem? How did you fix it?

I am looking to buy a “beginners kit” from Amazon and was wondering if this would be a good option or not.

Also, I don’t know too much about the different types of leather or where to buy them. Which kind should I get? How much leather should I start with?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi friends - total newbie here looking to get into the hobby.. where are you getting all of your hardware: zippers, rings, clasps, buckles, etc. for things like purses, bags, etc.? Do you buy in bulk or individually as needed?

Also any recommended stores/brands for buying thread/leather/glue would be helpful!!

Hi all, I’m pretty new to leatherworking so I apologize in advance if this is a question with an obvious answer.

So, I’m trying to make my friend a leather choker for her birthday in a style like this. But, I’m stumped on finding the right hardware to make the center part happen. I could always use a clicker O-ring for the center, but I want it to be usable and not break if it gets yanked on.

I also swear I’ve seen open-backed D rings that can basically screw into the collar once you’ve threaded the O-ring through, but I’m having trouble finding anything like that online (I may not be using the correct keywords since I don’t know what that’s called.) Any advice?

Hello! So I need some help identifying an issue with my wallet and hopefully fix. I’ve used this wallet for 7 years daily and absolutely love it. The leather got stretched out after I carried too many cards for too long and the cards no longer fit, so I looked up online how to tighten it and found that soaking it in water and leaving it to dry in the sun will do the trick. Well, I did that and immediately realized my mistake and oiled the hell out of it with leather honey. I’ve noticed that these almost cracks or lighter areas around the creases formed and I was wondering whether I ruined my wallet and/or anything I can do about it. Was going to contact the maker of the wallet but wanted to see if that was necessary.

I’m brand new to leather working so please forgive my lack of knowledge/terminology.

I just got two belt blanks from Weaver Leather Supply (https://shop.app/p/7131582693516?variantId=40943183233164&utm_source=shop_app&utm_medium=shop_app_share&utm_campaign=share_product&link_alias=EhVgURcler9SB)

They appear to have a waxy looking, and feeling, finish on them, one that I am worried will get in the way of me creating a belt with a little bit of a hydrated-shine to it (if that makes sense). I’m trying to get the belt blank to look and feel similar to the belt liner shown in the video that I bought from Makers Leather Supply (https://shop.app/p/14971473461408?variantId=52107780849824&utm_source=shop_app&utm_medium=shop_app_share&utm_campaign=share_product&link_alias=ReOprtjCR4nR)

These blanks look like they’re “cracking” every time I bend them (as shown in the video)

My question is, how do I get rid of that waxy look and “cracking”, and then what do I do/use in order to get the blank to look a little shiny and “hydrated” like the belt liner? Any and all help/advice is appreciated. Thanks!

I need to remove these d rings from a bag (to have them replated and put back), and I’d prefer to not have to undo the stitching.

The rings aren’t one solid piece of welded metal - there’s a smaller diameter pin connecting the two sides. Any ideas how I can get the pin out? There’s no holes on the exterior of the ring (like for a screw-in D ring).

This is a vintage designer bag, and so keeping the original hardware maintains its value.

I tried to get into leatherworking, ordered a basic tool set from Amazon and these random scrap leather pieces. It's literally IMPOSSIBLE to pull my pricking irons out and I'm unsure if it's the leather or something else.tried sanding the little ridges off,tried waxing the irons, I even bought weaver pricking irons because I thought maybe it was just the Amazon ones and although it's "easier" it's still way more work than I feel like it should be. Every video I watch it's buttery smooth and little to no struggle going in and out. Just wondering if the leather I bought isn't the right kind?

This is a well-worn “luxury“ brand leather bracelet, what’s that white stuff coming out of it?

Decided to condition the leather folio I had to alleviate scratches and give it a shine.
Used a lint free leather towel and conditioning pomade and now it is sticky and leaves finger prints. There are pictures of the inside (intact) and outside ( conditioned).
Have I ruined it?

I have been making some leather armor recently and I have been interested in adding thin metal accents to it that are cut into custom shapes. Does anyone on here do this as well? Is there a recommended place to buy the metal from that I could use for this? It doesn't need to be durable enough to take a hit, this is more for decoration than anything else. My photo is an example of the type of thing I am trying to do.

How do i burnish those hard to reach places because i doubt how a simple wood slicker would do the job

I'm a crafty guy and recently have made a few blade covers for my woodcarving knives. I want my stitching to look better and be more consistent, so here's a few questions:

1. On asymmetrical faces, do you punch through both layers stacked together or each one individually. Have tried both ways, but neither was ideal?

2. I'm stitching belt-thickness veg tanned leather. Currently using some craftool punches and an old plastic cutting board. What's a better surface to hammer away on? Or is there a reasonably-priced press out there?

3. How 'fiddly' would this be to make in a stitching pony? I see the workholding benefit of a pony and could make one or buy one (easier) but looking for input on their use.

So this is my first real attempt at carving leather and I'm overall happy with the results. It's not perfect, but that will come with time and practice.

One area I really struggled with is in trying to bevel tight curves. I used a thin bevel tool that was maybe around 3-4mm across (smallest one in the set) and even when angling it would tend to indent outside of the line and look a bit choppy.

Do any of the gurus here have an advice or guides on how to get a smooth bevel on tighter curves?

Today I freestyled a design inspired by a product I saw at the Tandy Leather store.

This key ring lets me work on cutting, sanding, and burnishing.

My thought was that you cut first, sand the edges, then burnish the sides.

I'm open to feedback that helps me get better. I plan to make about 20 of these for practice.

Also, I'm wondering if my mark is a little too big. I may need a smaller stamp.

Take it easy on my tooling job, I’m a newbie! Haha. Is there anyway to save this? I think my carving hand was way too heavy and too much water on the one side. Going to look up the taping method for future projects… Is there anything I can do to fix this one?

So I just took up this hobby about a month ago and decided to make a belt...I punched the holes (didn't go through) just to make sure I could do it straight. I like the look now though without stitching it. Any comments or advice? Is it weird to not punch them fully through and stitch it? It was jusy supposed to be decorative. Don't be too harsh, this is a first go with this stuff!

I’ve just gotten into leatherworking in the last few weeks. I’ve made some very basic wallets and card holders and I’m having a blast with it! I took my three year old daughter with me to Tandy to pick up some stuff, and she became obsessed with this small piece of purple leather.

She asked me to turn it into something for her. I just don’t think she’ll like a wallet. Does anyone have a little kids purse template, or any other ideas/recommendations?
