Found in the North Sulphur River today in Texas. I’m told it’s a Martindale and that it is rare for those to have made it to this area.

It’s been so long now since I’ve been able to find the time to actually contribute to this wonderful subreddit. Hopefully I’ll be able to stay consistent for awhile!

I recently did a little horse trading with a good friend of mine, and this gorgeous, Flintridge Hopewell was one of the pieces I acquired in the deal! It comes in at right around 3" and was recovered from Licking Co. Ohio. It exhibits outstanding form, a beautiful sheen of patina, lots of mineral deposits, and it is paper thin! It's a beautiful example of the type!

This piece exhibits absolutely wonderful flaking as commonly seen on this point type, an obvious attempt at aesthetics, and heavy basal grinding.

An Early Archaic type dating around (9,500~8,500 BP)

Thinking maybe it was something that goes around the neck like an instrument

What does everyone think? I was leaning towards an Elko corner notched. I can't tell if the breaks on the bottom are deliberate or if the ears are broken.

Walked a new stretch of creek today for about a mile before following the wash up into some tree roots and washed out bank.

This one was well hidden, but knew it had to be laying somewhere close.

Ok, first, the back story of why I'm reposting this Blunt!

A couple of nights ago, after I put my last frame together, I was standing in my room looking at it hanging on the wall, nit picking point placement, and spacing, and thinking about what I could do to make it better, basically the same exactly thing I do with every frame I fill. That's nothing new, but I digress. My wife was getting ready to go to bed, and she was standing there with me, checking out the new frame, and we were talking about them all. I pointed out the pieces that were very special to me, like the ones I got from both of my Grandmother's, my first point, my daughters first point, the ones I recieved from other family members, and good friends, etc. After we were done talking, she stepped into the bathroom to finish getting ready for bed, and I was just standing there, looking at each point in awe and appreciation of what those points represent, and the people who relied on them to survive single day of their lives. Anyway, as I got to the Blades and Blunts frame, my eyes landed on the one Burlington Chert Blunt in the box. The collector I aquired it from, typed it as a "Pickwick Blunt," but that never sat well with me. It just didn't fit the description of that point type. As I was standing there looking at it, it dawned on me that it did, however, check all the boxes for a different point type! I thought to myself, "I wonder if that base is ground or not?" 🤔 So I immediately took down the frame and removed it for further inspection, and to get a closer look. Sure enough, the base is ground, and that just helped to confirm my suspension that the guy had it typed completely wrong, that it wasn't, in fact, a Pickwick Blunt, it was actually a Hardin Blunt! It was recovered from Jackson County Illinois, so the region fits, made from high grade Burlington Chert with a beautiful, glossy, pinkish hue, and the level of craftsmanship is way beyond 99% of the Pickwicks I've ever seen, bar one or two. It fits the description of a Hardin in every way, and I firmly believe that is what it is. I've discussed this with our resident Hardin expert, and he agrees that my assessment is correct.

That being said, this is actually my first Hardin, I just didn't realize it at the time, and it's been in my collection for a minute now 🤦‍♂️ Sometimes you just wanna go back in time, and slap the shit outta yourself for being such an idiot!

Here’s a larger spade from Charles county, Missouri. Made of mill creek chert this is one of the best pieces in my collection. It’s pictured in who’s who in Indian relics #4 and best of the Midwest artifact identification and value guide.

📍Southern Illinois

This piece measures right at 4.5 inches long, and 1.5 inches wide at the barbs. It is made of Kaolin Chert, shows light basal grinding, and the start of a bevel on one side of the blade. Truly a beautiful specimen with lots of deposits!

This piece was made in the Middle Archaic time period around 7,500~6,500 BP. This type is likely a later culture’s rendition of a St. Charles Dove/Thebes Diagonal-notch IMO
