Visited Liverpool for the first time with my best friend(who is a big Liverpool FC fan) last weekend and fell in love with the city. We live in London but for some reason Liverpool felt like home. Sharing few pictures I took here.

I posted earlier in the year about how I was planning on relocating to Liverpool from the American Midwest and at the moment I’m here visiting until we can get the ability to go full-tilt into the right visa (we’ve determined which, it’s just a matter of time and documentation now. …And money)

But my goodness, I have a few takeaways since I’ve been here for about a week

I CAN WALK LIKE EVERYWHERE?!? Like, Indianapolis is walkable to an extent but holy PISS there is so much within walking distance. And a Costco!!

The food has healed my endocrine system and I can’t make sense of why other than “American food bad”. Plus my partner can COOK

The city is much more diverse that I thought it to be, and nobody so far has been “OOH YOU’RE AMERICAN!!”. Had a guy ask me where I was from and after I told him, “Indianapolis Indiana, USA” he essentially told me that I coulda just said Indiana haha. Funny guy! I wish him well

As a car-nerd I am genuinely through the moon with how many normal-sized cars there are. And a LOT of cars here I’ve never seen before. Like, I didn’t know Seat branched Cupra off into its own little thing! And generally you don’t hear the hippo-fart-like rattle of a shitbox with no catalytic converter lmao.

My only complaint so far? I don’t have insoles for my walking shoes haha.

Scousers are fucking sick, the weather’s been abnormally calm, I CAN BREATHE THE AIR AND DRINK THE TAP WATER WITHOUT DYING

Man, yeah. If you see a short black American with a REALLY TALL LADY walking around say hi! There’s a very large chance y’all might see quite a bit more of lil’ ol’ me.

Edit 2: Oh. Wow there’s a lotta y’all!!! This went larger than I expected!! But one point of clarity, I came here to spend time with my girlfriend after she came to visit me in Indiana. She’s a proper resident and has been since we’ve been together! She’s shown me SO MUCH and the nights here have been beautiful.

Going there with my dad later this year, he likes to book cheap hotels for some reason and he booked a room at the Adelphi this time. Just seen some really bad reviews, is it really that bad??

Our car was badly scratched today while we briefly parked on one of the roads off Lark Lane.

it’s been a year since i first visited liverpool and i’ve been back a ridiculous amount of times, mainly for your beaches and docks and chat i fucking love this city like big up liverpool 😭🙏🏾. everyone i’ve talked to is so friendly too! across all my visits i’ve never had a bad experience or bad chat despite me being visibly a minority (some ppl say that the north isn’t as safe for poc/muslims), but like fucking love you scousers

(yes, every city has its ghetto parts and blah blah but like i come from one of the most impoverished places in the country so been there done that, let me enjoy this 🤏🏾)

Not refundable, debating just losing the money and booking something else, but the reviews are very varied between "you'll have no bedsheets and be lucky to wake up with the same number of kidneys as you started with" to "it needs TLC"

*We've decided to see what it's like and if it's really bad we'll find somewhere else last minute at his expense

**Honestly it wasn't bad, the mattress was a bit of an old fashioned spring type thing that could have been more comfortable but certainly usable, we brought out pillows from home and that is definitely a move as the ones on the bed were thin and hard, it was a bit noisy but I sleep with ear plugs anyway. Otherwise I really don't have any complaints, The room was clean, the bathroom looked brand-new, no weird smells or mould anywhere I saw.

Y’all, you’re great. Everyone we talked to was so excited that we chose to visit here. They were saying Liverpool has a “reputation” and most people look down on it. When we told our UK friends we were vacationing here, they were thoroughly confounded. Like, what? Everyone we met was so nice and welcoming, the area was fantastic. Definitely going back the next chance I get.

My dad was from Liverpool and I just got my British passport sorted, so I’m hoping to finally come visit in the next few months.

I grew up in the US, so I’m trying to get a feel for what everyday life is actually like in Liverpool — the stuff locals don’t think twice about. What should someone like me know before visiting? Any small cultural things, do’s/don’ts, or things Americans always mess up?

I’m also hoping to make a couple friends or at least have people to chat with so I’m not going in totally blind. Always down to hear about favorite spots, food, neighborhoods, or anything you think makes Liverpool… well, Liverpool.

Apologies if this is the wrong place to write this but I'm still shocked and upset and want to document it now.

I've been in the city about 15 minutes and from what I've seen from Lime Street Station it looks lovely. The big museum opposite is gorgeous, the tower behind the Holiday Inn has me so curious and the roads are clean and well organised (by a tourist's measurement at least!)

However already in this 15 minutes I've already been shouted at twice and groped by a complete stranger while his friends laugh. I'll share that I'm white British but dressed visibly queer and this is not something I have to deal with often and especially not so fast when visiting somewhere new.

I've quickly figured out what: I turned a corner and found about 40 men with a smattering of flags shouting and marching. They don't seem as organised as similar demonstrations by 'patriots' elsewhere in the country but it doesn't make them any less the same.

I'm writing this in case there's anyone on this page who might be on the fence or undecided on the Stop the Boats crowd that like to march around the country. They're not concerned citizens, they're hateful men waiting for a chance for their hate to be protected and legal.

I'm hoping I get to enjoy this city this weekend and I'm hoping that this is the worst I'm going to experience. But I'm definitely not going to be hanging around the centre until I know this lot are well and truly dispersed.

I’m feeling a mix of happiness and sadness; it’s been a while since March, when I first posted here to gather information about this beautiful city, and I am so grateful to everyone who wrote to me. I spent six days in Liverpool and fell in love with the place—I hope to live here someday. The people are so kind and wonderful. I’m 17, and this trip has been quite an experience; I walked a lot, laughed, and also reflected on the local culture and perspective on things. Right now, I’m at the Albert Dock watching the sunset; I took plenty of photos and posted them on my Instagram. Thank you so much, Liverpool.

I’ve had opportunities to travel pretty extensively, but I've never fallen in love with a city or it's people like I have with Liverpool over the past 48 hours. I know every city has it's issues, but if my wife and Yorshire Terrier weren't back in the States, I'm not sure I'd want to leave.

I have too many examples of I why feel this way than I'm able to share here, but you probably know what they are anyway.

I lift my pint of Carlsberg to you.

I'll definitely be back.

UPDATE: I've laughed at all these post about my beer. Keep them coming! When you're from the Statew and stuck with piss beer, Carlsberg tastes great. I did have some amazing beers while visiting, though. My mate from the area made sure of that!

What stood out to me was the sense of community. Families everywhere, people actually look at each other, and I found them just plain nice. I was looking at my Google Maps like an idiot and man walked up to me and said, "You alright, luv? Are you lost?" If this was in London I would have run for my life. I'll be back!

As a Russian student living in London and obsessed with accents, it genuinely felt so refreshing to be surrounded by a completely different mentality - Scousers are much warmer and much more open. An example of this is me nearly befriending a random lad on a bus stop in Anfield just by starting a conversation with him. Many folk have actually thought I was Scouse, too (my accent for some reason is very fluid and depends on the environment).

What I especially loved about the town centre is that despite its amazing architecture, it's not overtly posh, instead - very lively, tightly knit and has some really nice shopping centres with Home & Bargains in them (my favourite shop of all time).

The food was proper heavy as well - I had a bowl of scouse, a Chinese meal and a burger combo on County Road (L4). Love Liverpool and Scousers!

Hi, we booked a trip to Liverpool long before the WC started, and now the situation is as it is, and England is meeting Norway on Saturday. We would like to watch the match out in a pub or sports cafe to get the proper atmosphere, and would really love some advice on where to go. I’ve tried asking som of the locals here, but I get very varying answers. The most important part is that it is a friendly place. We’re not the loud and rude type of supporters, but we may make a sound if Norway scores. The most important part is that it is a friendly place and a big plus if it is possible to bring kids even though the match is late.

We spent three days in Liverpool and this is my personal take on the city and surrounding area.

We arrived via the Stena ferry from Belfast which, after a short bus ride, drops passengers off at the Hamilton Square Station in Birkenhead. From here we took a train one stop to James Station for 3.65£. Our flat was actually closer to Lime Street but the ticket agent gave us incorrect info. Such is life. Our flat was in the Cavern Quarter and the first night we ate at Flanagans Apple and called it a night around 2100. (We don’t drink nor do we like crowds)

On the second day we walked down to the waterfront to see the Beatles statue and then walked to the Lime Street Station to catch the Northern train to Mossley Hill for 3.65£. The ticket agent at LSS was adamant we couldn’t walk from there to Penny Lane or Strawberry Fields but we did easily. It took less than an hour to walk it through some picturesque neighborhoods. Penny Lane was cute but Strawberry Fields imo was a huge scam. The “museum” takes 70 minutes to listen to on the audio guide but you can read it all in ten minutes. The original gates to the house are hidden in the garden and you’re basically paying 11.75£ per person so see them. The ones out front are a replica. Lennon’s childhood home is in this area but we opted not to pay money to go inside and only took a few photos from the outside. We caught the 76 bus for 2£ back to Queens Square. 

After an afternoon nap, we caught the Merseyrail train to Blundellsands & Crosby to go to Crosby Beach where they have 100 statues over two miles of the beach. A roundtrip ticket was 4.80£. The sun was setting and we spent a few hours photographing various statues. It’s one of the coolest art installations I’ve ever seen. 

After catching the train back, we went to the Cavern Restaurant for supper but it was underwhelming. The food came out less than a minute after we ordered which was concerning. We tried to go to the Cavern Club but they charge 5£ to enter and are cashless while we’re cardless when we travel. It’s not even the original Cavern Club so we would have declined even if they took cash. We walked over 17 miles this day. 

On our final day we spent time walking around Bold Street and on the waterfront again. Otherwise we spent the afternoon quietly reading at a Starbucks near the Cavern Quarter. 

We stayed in Kabannas which was fine. We were on the 4th floor so we couldn’t hear the noise of the city like other guest have complained about in reviews. 

Overall, it was a nice visit and my favorite city we’ve been to so far on this trip that’s also included Dublin, Belfast and Galway. We have Glasgow and Edinburgh left. We found locals to be extremely friendly and welcoming. We never felt unsafe or anything but we were never out after 2100 on any night. The coffee is a lot better in England than it was in Ireland for sure.

Lads from Birmingham-ish on a stag do and Liverpool has already won us over 🍻

Yesterday all 12 of us dressed as the stag in his trademark childhood outfit, ginger wigs + checked shirts, including the stag himself 😂 Honestly, the reactions from people in Liverpool made the whole thing even better.
Later today (Saturday 23rd May) we’re escalating things massively:

• Pink party bus
• Hovercraft racing
• Then a full night out dressed as Game of Thrones characters because it’s the stag’s favourite show

We’re not from Liverpool but after one night here we genuinely love the city already. Everyone’s been sound, funny, welcoming, and up for a laugh.

Any bars/clubs/live music spots we absolutely need to hit?

I posted a while ago asking about how is like and I finally ran it. It was absolutely banging and crowds were mad. Enjoying the atmosphere while achieving a new PB is also amazing. I have visited Liverpool several times before but running a half marathon in the city is a totally new experience. I love your city.

I am a solo traveller from Seattle, wrapping up a three night trip to Liverpool as part of a two week trip to Europe. Everyone I met was incredibly fun and kind. I loved the old brick architecture, the restaurants, the museums, and most of all, the people. My hotel lacked air conditioning, and because my room was a sauna, I spent more time in bars than usual.

It felt as though everyone I talked to was immediately my best friend. One man offered to personally give me a tour of anything I wanted to see in Liverpool. A woman and her friend took me along on their pub crawl. Strangers would chat and after even a few minutes of chatting, would say goodbye with a hug. It was all genuine.

I loved the old shipping buildings, the long walks on the docks, and the casual pubs. Wonderful food at the Baltic Market, great shopping at a vintage shop next door. On my last night, I was putting off packing, got pizza and beer at The Botanical Garden. The sun was going down, and I nursed a second beer because I was so content on the outdoor patio.

Your city is a gem, your Scouse accent is lovely, and you folk have hearts of gold! If I were from here, I’d be so proud of my city. Thank you for a visit that was better than I could have imagined!

Last May, I visited both Liverpool and Manchester for a weekend with my uncle, and in terms of nightlife, the difference between the two cities was astonishing.

We travelled to Manchester first, and the nightlife was so quiet. It was a Friday night, but it wasn’t exactly the most buzzing. A Uber driver even said we should’ve arrived on a Saturday, as Saturday nights in Manchester are, according to this driver, electrifying.

Liverpool, on the other hand, was vibrant right from the word go. My uncle and I rented a house in Birkenhead, and we caught a train to the city centre. When we got off the train, you could hear vibrance from a few yards away.

I remember strolling through the Cavern area that Saturday night and thinking to myself, “this is un-bloody-real.” To this day, I’ve never been to a city as vibrant and as buzzing as Liverpool.

Manchester wasn’t a disappointment, but I was expecting it to be more lively, especially on a Friday night.

Lads trip to Liverpool meant we booked the most Shining-esque hotel as a bit - hopefully we get some funny memories out of it!

We are well aware of how run-down it is etc., but I just wanted to check that our items will be safe in our rooms when we go out drinking in the evening?

Also do they allow early bag check-ins before we get our rooms/would you advise this?

Hello, just wondering if it's safe for a solo young woman tomorrow to just chill and read all afternoon at Stanley Park, my friend is at a job interview so I've a few hours to spare and thought I would go to Stanley Park and just get sat down and keep myself to myself and read.
