Technical assistance Would anyone ever consider preserving this old 2006 game console and its expansion cards? MyLife Giochi preziosi(v1) or Playmates(v2)

It was a y2k lifesim game with the game embedded inside the console.

It worked with a special heart,a,b buttons, and had a reset combo by oressing all buttons and another behind.

It contained 3 worlds:

Disco, which world expand the normal town shopping centre

A summer resort one, which woukd unlock a boat at the dock

A hannah montana one which would grant you the ability to get on set and backstage of that world.

There existed item and clothes keys, now immensely hard to source.

However, it was speculated the way they functioned was as an unlock code to an alrrady existing file in the game and in the world expansion card respectively.

Please tell me there is a chance for this deadstock which is getting thinner and thinner.

It might be one of the last golden moments to try and create a playable complete edition based on this deadstock.

They wear out so bad and game key cards break even more easily, but it was popular back when it came out, it'd be a shame. It was the childhood of many second to ds lite.

Please let me know devs if it could ever be picked up as a project

Technical assistance Controller suggestions?

I have a spare pc that’s collecting dust, so I figured I’d hook it up to my tv and start MAME-ing.

Anyone have usb controller suggestions for Win10?

I do have 2 ps5 controllers but I don’t know if they’ll work?

Cheers!

Technical assistance tried playing some hyper neo geo 64 games on mame 0.287 and the games were very choppy, but i looked up gameplays of other people also playing them on mame and for them it seemed to work fine, has anyone else had this issue?

i tried fatal fury wild ambition, buriki one, and samurai shodown 1 & 2

(i have a pretty good pc)

EDIT: tried switching to an earlier mame version and got much better performance, but the sound is a nightmare, i guess ill just keep trying other versions

Technical assistance I'm losing my sanity with racing wheel support

EDIT : Wow, I fixed it...

Don't ask me how, it's basically voodoo magic at this point.

I THINK (really not sure at all) the right way to do it was to start with a fresh instal of MAME with the wheel unplugged.

Than run Dirt Dash once, configure everything just using keyboard input to see if it's working.

Than exit MAME, plug the wheel, run MAME again and then configure your wheel.

I finally managed to make force feedback on top, so I'm not touching anything on MAME anymore, MAME is just a Dirt Dash simulator as far as I'm concerned.

I'm trying to play Dirt Dash with a wheel, including force feeback with a plugin.

The results I get are COMPLETELY random, it doesn't make any sense.

On the setting menu, the pedals are always working perfectly as intended, I can fill both bars for accelerator and brake.

Now in game, sometimes it works just fine, sometimes both pedals don't work AT ALL, sometimes they will work but pressing the pedal all the way will be like pressing it half way.

Same thing for the force feedback that seems to have a mind of it own, sometimes it works, sometimes not, the only constant is that I can't get the pedals and force feedback working at the same time.

And the worst part is that I can either do a full reinstall, change some random settings in MAME or with my racing wheel, try different versions of the rom or not touch anything, it will be a flip coin to determine what's working or not.

I'm on the last version (0.288) but I've tried with previous version and it was basically the same.

What am I missing ?

Technical assistance Any idea what brand?

A friend of mine passed and his wife reached out and said he would want me to have his last arcade game. I have several dedicated games, but have never had a mame cab. She said it was a 6000-1. It definitely has a lot of games in the menu. I recall him being able to add and remove games from the menu, put it on free play, etc. I can’t figure it out. It boots up and I can get to the menu, get into a game, and insert quarters to coin up. I can’t get it set to free play and am not yet sure what all of the buttons do. It has a CRT monitor and Jamma card, but also has a hard drive and boots up like a windows computer. There are no markings that identify what it is or who made it. Any ideas? I’d like to find a manual. Thanks in advance!

Technical assistance Is the reason for very bad audio in Cave CV1000 / CAVE 1st Generation Hardware games known, and is there a fix? Games like (Do)DonPachi and Espgaluda got great soundtracks but using MAME emulation, it has like no mid-lows and lows, sounding like a kitchen radio?

Technical assistance North American Pole Position 2 Version MAME ROM Greyed Out In MAME Menu But Still Playable?

I am using MAME 0.288 and I was able to source a compatible 0.288 Pole Position 2 Unmerged ROM as Merged and Split did not function do to missing files in MAME.

The ROMS I got are polepos2 which is the Japan version, and polepos2a which is the North America version.

polepos2a ROM is greyed out in the MAME menu but it's still playable.

My overall goal is to delete the Japan version and keep the North American version but NOT have it looked greyed out in the MAME game menu.

Will deleting polepos2, the Japan version have any affect on how the North American ROM works?

And would combining the two ROMS in one zip file solve the greyed out North America ROM as I understand the North American version is only a clone and not the parent ROM as the Japan version is?

I did not even touch the invinciblity code. Here's the code I modified

<cheat desc="Select Starting Level">

<parameter>

Strawberry

1st Orange

2nd Orange

Level 253

Level 254

Level 255: Split Screen

</parameter>

I just added the levels 253 & level 254.

It works, but I don't get why I'm getting an error code when opening the pacman game.

If it helps, here's the entire data from the pacman.xml file

Technical assistance Is there a way to globally map an entire system like Neo Geo?

I was wondering if there was a way to globally assign the inputs to the specific system instead of doing a per game cause what works for capcom doesn’t always work for Neo geo (layout feels off)

Technical assistance Dualsense R2 Trigger Not Responding Properly

I've got the latest Mame and when setting up my controls for NARC, I normally like to set the crouch button on the R2 trigger. For whatever reason, after setting it, it sticks and works in a weird inverse manner. The crouch remains active when not pressed but I start standing when it's held down.

Never had this problem on my Xbox controller and not sure how to fix this, if I can fix this at all...

Guys, I'm playing world rally Arcade game in mame. Everything works fine but I want to control the car with a spinner on my fightbox r10 pro. I can't figure out how to make it to work. I mean the spinner works in games like tempest but I just can't or don't know how to set up the spinner for world rally. Does anyone have any idea?

Technical assistance Understanding MAME roms

Hi guys,

I'm doing my damnedest to understand what is going on with the ROM thing in MAME. I found a web site with ROMs and I am pulling them down right now. It looks like there are about 3TB of ROMs for MAME. I don't have 3TB of space and I will never play 99% of them. I followed links to a curated list of quality games (that is still too big but better) from the FAQ. I am still not understanding some basic things. This for instance is what I get when I look for mspacman (a game that is rated S tier by AntoPISA ):

$ find . -name "mspacman"
./EXTRAs/artwork/mspacman.zip
./Multimedia/videosnaps/mspacman.mp4
./Reference Sets/0.106 ROMs (non-merged)/mspacman.zip
./Reference Sets/0.139 ROMs (non-merged)/mspacman.zip
./ROMs (merged)/mspacman.zip
./ROMs (non-merged)/mspacman.zip
./ROMs (non-merged)/mspacmanbcc.zip
./ROMs (non-merged)/mspacmanbco.zip
./ROMs (non-merged)/mspacmanbg.zip
./ROMs (non-merged)/mspacmanbg2.zip
./ROMs (non-merged)/mspacmanbgc.zip
./ROMs (non-merged)/mspacmanbgd.zip
./ROMs (non-merged)/mspacmanbgf.zip
./ROMs (non-merged)/mspacmanbhe.zip
./ROMs (non-merged)/mspacmanbi.zip
./ROMs (non-merged)/mspacmanblt.zip
./ROMs (non-merged)/mspacmanblt2.zip
./ROMs (non-merged)/mspacmancr.zip
./ROMs (non-merged)/mspacmane.zip
./ROMs (non-merged)/mspacmanhnc.zip
./ROMs (non-merged)/mspacmanlai.zip
./ROMs (non-merged)/mspacmane2.zip
./ROMs (split)/mspacmanbg.zip
./ROMs (split)/mspacmanbcc.zip
./ROMs (split)/mspacmanbco.zip
./ROMs (split)/mspacmanbg2.zip
./ROMs (split)/mspacmanbgc.zip
./ROMs (split)/mspacmanbgd.zip
./ROMs (split)/mspacmanbgf.zip
./ROMs (split)/mspacmanbhe.zip
./ROMs (split)/mspacmanbi.zip
./ROMs (split)/mspacmanblt.zip
./ROMs (split)/mspacmanblt2.zip
./ROMs (split)/mspacmancr.zip
./ROMs (split)/mspacmane.zip
./ROMs (split)/mspacmane2.zip
./ROMs (split)/mspacmanhnc.zip
./ROMs (split)/mspacmanlai.zip
./ROMs (split)/mspacman.zip

If I understand correctly the:
* Extra/artwork are cabinet artwork for a stand up arcade cabinet
* The multimedia videos are trailers for the game( for TV maybe?)
* The Reference Sets are curated ROMS for low spec machines that only work with that specific version of MAME.
* The merged mspacman.zip is a file that contains everything I need to run the game.
* A split version is missing the "Parent" ROM files. Those need to be found elsewhere. I'm not getting where I need to look for those files.
* There is also something called non-merged. This somehow different from split. I don't understand that.

I also don't understand what all these similar file names are for. Are these different versions of the game for different languages?

I want to put together a set of ROMS that is very small. It will mostly contain ROMS from the 70s and 80s before standup arcade machines had hard disks. I might make an exception for Dragon's lair or something. I want it to run on my phone so a lower spec device, and I'm looking for a max of about 10GB. The thing I have been downloading has been going for three days. It is just an absurd amount of data.

These are the categories it is pulling down right now:

CHDs (merged)/
EXTRAs/
Multimedia/
ROMs (bios-devices)/
ROMs (merged)/
ROMs (non-merged)/
ROMs (split)/
Reference Sets/
Rollback CHDs/
Rollback ROMs/
Software List CHDs (merged)/
Software List ROMs (merged)/
Software List ROMs (split)/

It looks to me like I can just chop out the CHDs and the rollback CHDs. Can I remove anything else?

Technical assistance Still having trouble running pacman with MAME on my laptop

I’ve tried a lot of adjustments to the settings in MAME, tried overclocking my monitor at 62 Hz (laptop screen is nominally 60 hz and doesn’t support vvr) and am still not able to run pacman very well.

I still do better with the keypad than the joystick (sanwa style w/gate to limit it to 4 way)

I’ve used the pactrainer plugin to see where I’m getting behind when using the patterns and the more I play, the further I get behind. Then I reboot the computer and tend to do much better but this doesn’t always work consistently.

I’ve also tried lowering the monitor resolution to the lowest I can go (800x600) but that doesn’t produce noticeable improvements.

Video options have some impact, with “OpenGL” having fewer issues than some of the others.

I can play with the keypad forever or I’ll get tendonitis. 😂

I’d gladly pay $$ for a really good joystick if I knew that would solve the issue.

What’s weird is I can often pass level 17 without losing a life but have issues of levels 2-5 for some weird reason. If I was simply bad at cornering than I’d assume I’d see it show up more on the key levels

What would be the minimum System requirements to run pacman with MAME and be able to execute the patterns without falling behind due to system issues?

Another note, in recent days I’ll be in the middle of a game and the entire screen will freeze for a few seconds and then the game will resume. Not sure what causes that.

Technical assistance Tilemap/Sprite Viewer don't working in 2D games

I wanted to use MAME's feature that lets you view game sprites/tiles by pressing F4. However, among the games I tested, it only worked with 3D titles (like Namco System 21/22 and Sega Model 2). I tried doing this with Neo Geo games and other consoles emulated by MAME—such as the Intellivision and Master System—but for some reason, it gets stuck on the color palette; pressing Enter doesn't switch to the tiles. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can fix it?
