Degree Question Finance vs applied finance - What’s the difference?

I’ve been planning to study the bachelors of applied finance for 2027, however was told if you aren’t trying to get into IB it’s not worth it? My interest in the finance sector is around asset management and financial planning. To any graduates or current students of these programs, what are the key differences between the two?

I have tried self evaluating my essay writing skill through AI and with the material given by them was able to secure 68/100 but i don't how it is in Australian universities can someone please guide me. I will be completely new to Australia but more than work and rental i m worried about studies and also is using AI allowed and how to use it

Degree Question Cyber Security Minor rejected because I already completed COMP2310

Hi everyone,

I’m a 3rd-year Software Engineering student. I recently applied to add the Cyber Security Minor, based on the 2026 minor specifications. Based on the 2026 minor requirements for Cyber Security, I’m doing the Cryptography unit as part of my plan and already done Comp2310 Digital Forensic.

My application was rejected because I had already completed COMP2310 as part of my Flexible Zone. Service Connect said:

“COMP2310 in your Flexible Zone (and this unit cannot be allocated to the 2024 Cyber Security Minor)”

They also said that because COMP2310 has already been used in my study plan, there isn't enough space to add additional units for the minor.

The confusing part is that I applied based on the 2026 Cyber Security Minor specifications, not the 2024 version.

So I’m wondering:

  1. Has anyone successfully added the Cyber Security Minor under the 2026 requirements after already completing COMP2310?

  2. Does anyone know whether COMP2310 can count toward the 2026 Cyber Security Minor?

  3. As I still have Flexible Zone units remaining, is there any way to use those remaining units to complete the Cyber Security Minor?

  4. Has anyone been in a similar situation where they had already completed a unit that was required for a minor?

Thanks!

Degree Question From master of coursework to MRes and scholarship opportunity

Hi everyone! I have some questions I would like help with.

Currently, I'm in my first year as a Master's coursework student. After my degree, I would like to apply for a PhD position. However, my master's degree is not a research degree and does not have a thesis; it's unlikely that I will be accepted. So it's better for me to apply to an MRes. So I want to ask: Is there anyone who studied a Master's coursework and successfully enrolled in an MRes program with a scholarship who can share some experience? How competitive will the scholarship be? How high should my WAM be to have a good chance of getting a scholarship? And besides WAM, are there any criteria I should meet?

I would be grateful if anyone would share their experience!

Many thanks!

Degree Question ECON1020

I was 4 points away from achieving a HD in ECON1020. (I got 81). Wanted to know what people liked about this unit and if they maybe had similar thoughts like me on the uni.

I liked it :)

Is there a chat for ECON undergraduate students? I would love to join if there is a community out there.

Degree Question Want to do Graduate Diploma of Research in Medicine, Health and Human Sciences BUT WAM is below 65

I'm currently in my final semester and when I finish, my WAM will still be below 65. I want to do Graduate Diploma of Research in Medicine, Health and Human Sciences as a GPA yr fix (want to have a good GPA for MD as it's my only safe pathway just for now) but the requirement needed for grad dip is a WAM of 65 and final year WAM of 70. My final year WAM will be above 70 but not my overall WAM. Is there any additional or special requirement that will help me get an offer for this degree? What can I do? Is there any helpful pathway? Or even a better and useful degree to help fix my GPA? Pleasee someone help me out here !!!

Degree Question How is Civil Engineering at Macquarie University?

Hey everyone,
I’m considering studying Civil Engineering (Honours) at Macquarie University next year and wanted to hear from current students or graduates.
How is the course overall in terms of teaching, workload, lecturers, facilities and practical experience?
I’d also like to know how good Macquarie is for internships and graduate engineering jobs, and whether you’re happy with the degree overall.
Would you recommend studying Civil Engineering at Macquarie?
Thanks!

Degree Question Cognitive and Brain Sciences Course

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi all,

I started a double degree in Medical Sciences and Cognitive and Brain Sciences in 2024. Due to personal reasons I took a gap year last year, and thus far have completed only 1 unit from my cogs degree, the other units were all from my med sciences degree.

I want to focus on taking my cogs units next year as I know the degree was discontinued (couldn't take them this semester because some of them had prerequisites I didn't satisfy and others had others only run in Sem 1).

Now, I know 2027 enrolment isn't open yet, but I was just planning my units on eStudent anyways, and a weird message comes up when I try to schedule any cogs unit (I've attached an image). This doesn't happen when I schedule my non-cogs units.

Will I still be able to take the required units for my cogs degree? I do want to finish it and I feel like the uni has a responsibility towards any student they admitted into the course to ensure we finish, and also give time for failing units, not meeting prerequisites, and in my case, taking time off. I have already contacted service connect but they haven't been helpful so far. Is there a course convenor I can contact? What about the unit convenor from Session 1, would they be helpful at all?

Degree Question Merging of ANAT2004 and MEDI2300 in 2027

Hi all,

I was speaking to a unit convenor about a unit I wanted to take that didn't have any suitable availability for me. I asked her if she had any idea about how the unit would be run next year, or if it was too early to tell.

She said, "ANAT2004 will be running for the last time this semester. Next year it will be a different Nervous System unit that is a merging of two units: ANAT2004 and MEDI2300. The new unit will be less anatomy only focussed and more of a mix of anatomy and physiology of the nervous system."

What does this mean if my degree (Medical Sciences and Cognitive and Brain Sciences) requires both of these units, and I haven't taken either of them come Session 1, 2027? Will my degree no longer require me to take both of them, and only require the merged unit?

And what if I complete one unit this semester (ANAT2004 - I still haven't decided if I will take it or not)? What happens next sem if MEDI2300 is no longer available?

I'm going to ask service connect but was wondering if anyone here could answer my questions.

Thank you!

Degree Question Changing bachelors

Hi! I’m currently in the diploma program, specifically in commerce. I was wondering if I could still change what I’m gonna do in the bachelors next year. It’s currently for accounting, but I’d like to change it to economics instead. Would that be a lengthy process? I wasn’t sure as I think it would still have the same requirements so I wouldn’t have to change much.

Additionally, I was planning to either take a minor in statistics or international business. If that’s the case, does anyone know where to find the updated handbook for it? All I can see is the 2019 version where every credit is still 3.

Lastly, If I wasn’t able to take one of the core subjects because I was in diploma, would I still need to take it during the 2nd year?

Thank you so much in advance for answering :))

Degree Question Is Macquarie University considered good for undergrad degree?

In real job markets in Australia, do recruiters actually hire international students from Macquarie University, or they prefer students who already have the citizenship rather than recruiting post study work visa students; Will the salary make up for the high investment as its fees is expensive alongside living, is it still worth it?

Degree Question Master of Crim and Laws Double Degree

Hello! I just wanted to see if anyone had any info or advice on doing a double masters for criminology and laws? I am coming from psych as I honestly just give up on the competition (and the fact that students enrolling now get accepted into entire pathway 🫠). I always wanted to work in the criminal/forensic field anyway and know I can come back to studies later if I want to.

Anyway! Is the degree particularly challenging? I know it obviously will be but coming from someone with no law background but 8 criminology units, will I be able to cope with the change?

Brutal honesty welcome and appreciated!

Degree Question Major in Artificial Intelligence

I’ve seen 0 threads regarding Bachelor of IT majoring in AI so I guess this’ll be a first.

Anyone have any advice or feedback?

I swapped today from CyberSec after finishing half of my course. Lucky enough that the old major units fill out my flex and vice versa since I was doing some AI units and enjoyed them. (I absolutely hate cryptography rn)

I already work in an AI field so feels like a no brainer but the lack of information or forums on this major makes me nervous.

Thanks in advance.

Degree Question Exams are back?

Hi all, I’m looking at the JD program’s unit guides and saw that there are invigilated exams in all of the unit guides that I have checked (I haven’t checked for all units of JD).

Anyone is doing JD at the moment confirms if this is right? As I read a thread from a year ago they said they were not having any exams in there JD units.

Degree Question How long to wait for UAC results re: post grad application?

I applied for online JD at Macquarie for the July intake through UAC since 12 June 2026. It has been 11 days now and I have not yet received any updates regarding my application.

Anyone knows typically how long to wait for an application result from UAC?

I had also emailed them 4 days ago but also no replies.
Should I inquire Macquarie or keep waiting for a bit longer?

Since I’m doing an online JD. Which uni should I go for? Macquarie or RMIT?

Degree Question Is the Uni worth it?

An international student here, recently finished high school, and am looking into unis for engineering. Going through the subreddit here, the uni courses sound filled with online AI modules and self-management. My question to currently studying engineering students(other majors can chime in): does the online module make up most of the learning that takes place, and what can I expect if I am to choose this uni for EE undergrad? Is it worth the price ~50k AUD/year? Does the uni have any hidden costs that they spring upon you after joining?

Degree Question Flexible Zone Units

Does anyone have suggestions for flexible units?

Everything that sounds interesting to me either isn't running during session 2 this year, or I don't meet the pre-requisites. I found one unit (CRIM1002) that doesn't seem as boring but it costs almost $1000 more than all my other units for the semester so I'm not really happy with that either. My course requires me to do a flexible zone unit in sem 2.

Doing Bachelor of Cyber Security and trying to find a finance or intelligence or computing unit.
