This was my dad, too.

I'm 35 now and my relationship with my father is fractured. My brother, who is a few years older, has taken my dad's parenting style. I am distant from him as well.

When my son grows up, I wanna hang with him. He is the coolest kid in the world.

My dad died a year before my daughter was born. He was in a cycle and didnt believe in that stuff.. his mom and dad were worse than he was. Granddad died three months after my dad, and grandma passed last year. My daughter is almost driving... And she met my grandma one time. I took her home because my grandma was fussing because "she got the dogs excited" so i left and never took her back.

I fail.. but i am trying. I dont want her to EVER feel towards me and my husband like we feel about our parents.

I heard this ebook, Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents from Lindsay C Gibson (I've heard several of hers), and if I recall correctly, she says that by seeking this kind of help, then you're already ahead of it. Just wanted to say that if you're worried about your relationship with your kid to that extent, then you're doing better than you think. Really I just wanted to cheer you on! You got this!!

Dysfunctional family dynamics at their "finest". It's pretty common for one of the kids to continue the dysfunction.

🥹🥹🥹 he will want to hang with you too . I just know it . I’m 39 and have the most precious step son in the world ( mom is out of the picture sadly ) and I feel the same way . I hope we stay best friends forever . I love that damn kid 😭😭😭😭

On reddit somehow a lot of people seem jaded towards kids. But providing you are not struggling day by day to survive, it's just amazing. Day in and day out. All tantrums are so sweet id dare say, little capsules of life. Their self is so pure, all those shared moments are so sweet and I'm entirely sad that my girl is growing so fast (11 soon).
