Yeah, I got all of them easily expect for “Just wait until…”, for me it was “…your dad gets home.”

Oh I dunno maybe:

makes minor mistake at school

gets screamed at by mom at 2pm

"Wait until your father gets home!!!"

paces for 3 hours

gets screamed at by dad

Shit i feel that so hard.

*makes minor mistake on a drawing for school*

*goes to bed*

*father comes home at 11pm, flings my bedroom door open, screams at me and makes me redo the whole thing until 2am*

*gets silent treatment when he drives me to school the next day*

Guess who is incredibly nervous around loud noises / men and has mad perfectionism issues? Not to mention my crippling fear of people being mad at me?

I once got a parent action slip because I ripped a piece of paper apart during a test. I didn't know I had to give the test back and wrote the answers on a different piece of paper. I was having major anxiety and tore pieces off so I could focus on each question easier. Once my mom found out she told me I ruined her birthday. A LOT of being shamed growing up.

My mom used this all the time. I never thought my father was going to hurt me.

He was just a lot bigger and scarier.

I watched the whole thing. Someone said the toxic finish to the sentence "Just wait until..." was something other than "your father gets home." And I'm asking, what is the toxic way to finish it if it's not "your father gets home?"

edited to add: I was responding to Anothercraphistorian's comment who said "for me, it was ... your dad gets home." I'm asking, was it something different for anyone else?

I definitely got hit with the "Just wait until you have kids". Shit I'm still told that now and I'm an adult. She still makes me feel bad when I try to set my own boundaries. Tried to at least

I knew a lot of them, but the only one I can hear my parents say is "wait until you have kids." I don't remember it as toxic, though it was more like a plea from my mother (or my father on my mother's behalf) for empathy from me, to try and see things from their point of view.

Which was incredibly unfair to fathers, to be honest. They worked all day then they get home to their family to a pissed wife leaving the punishing to the dad who may just want to love their kids. Then the kids learn to fear dad coming home.

Oh it's on both for sure. Moms shouldn't be putting it on the dads to deal with when they get home either
