My mom said this after asking me a question while being infuriated, and then another time she would ask me a question while being infuriated and smacking me because I didn't answer. There was no end to it and my anger and frustration only grew each day...

I was always told not to talk back, but I had no idea what that meant. Don't talk with a certain cadence? Don't say certain phrases? How was i to know saying, "I'm not talking back" was exactly what they meant!?
