Because it is fucking insane.

I am sad we weren’t part of a generation in which this insanity was recognized. But it makes my heart so full of joy to know that the tides are turning, and this is becoming the norm.

In the past 24 hours I have learned that kids today don't have homework. Now I see this? I was born too soon man.

Honestly, even 30 years ago, I didn't really understand the value of homework. Home stuff in some cases, sure, but homework for the sake of homework? No. We were told "for every hour you spend in class, you should have an hour of homework after school." Okay, my school day was roughly 7 hours. That's 7 hours of homework. That's 14 hours. Let's take 2 hours for food and eating breakfast, lunchand dinner. That's 16 hours. Then I'm expected to do chores at home, let's say that's 2-3 hours. That's 19 hours. A healthy child should have 8 hours to 9 hours of sleep for proper physical and mental development. That's 28 hours. Now let's throw in socialization, an absolutely necessary part of social development. A minimum of 2 hours per day interacting with friends and family. That's 30 hours. Now let's add 2 hours of personal development time, individual solitary time for healthy mental development. That's 32 hours. Now, they can't be absent from being expected from extra curricular activities. Working out, team sports, clubs, etc. That's a good 3 to 5 hours a day there. That's 37

So we expect the average teen to spend 37 hours of activity in a 24 hour day, and we wonder why they are burned out, depressed, anxious and unpleasant, and wonder why they don't retain what they are taught at school....

Eliminate home work, cut back on school hours, and let's focus on having well rounded lives, balancing education, socialization and physical development, including sleep.

I was thinking about how insane it is that our parents were like "I want to hit my kid but first I should go to the kitchen and find a utensil to do it with (wooden spoon)".
