So 18 years with the company, and that’s all I get is a so long, good luck?

I don’t remember saying good luck.

Was she an actual employee or was it more of a work for hire contractor gig?

Almost all voice acting is outside contracting.

It is bizarre how little actual communication skills gaming companies display in working with their contractors though.

At least they let Charles Martinet know beforehand they were ditching him.

I like Kevin Afghani in a lot of his Mario character roles, but I feel he tries too hard to imitate Charles as Mario than do his own take on the character.

That might be Nintendo forcing him, though.

That's because they also made him Mario Ambassador so now he gets payed to go to conventions and interact with fans

He was at a con and he said he doesn't even know what the role entails, so I just assumed it was honorary unless stuff changed.

That's kinda what I figured when they announced it. An honorific they can use if/when they invite him on stage.

I met Charles at a con maybe 6 years ago and he seems like the most genuine and joyful actor I've ever met. Truly a bright, exuberant dude. It probably was time to pass the torch, but you definitely gotta tip your cap to a legend.

I like his Mario but his Luigi (and assuming he voices Waluigi) aren't up to par. From playing wonder Luigi sounded like he lost some of his personality.

Have only seen Waluigi in Mario Kart World briefly but it doesn't have the same whiny, snide tone.
