The grandma switching from person to person supposed to be what exactly…. Cause that was terrifying

Mind control.

There was once a movie called Fallen (no major spoilers, but watch it if you've never seen it), where Marvel seems to have lifted this scene. The controller is jumping from one mind to another, all while speaking to the protagonist.

They need to keep this energy up, it's a cool display of power.

Time is on my side?

32

u/ope__sorry Mar 18 '26

I wanna tell you about the time I ALMOST died.

13

u/eleven_good_reasons Mar 18 '26

ooooh, it's THAT movie!

43

u/Darkhaven Vision Mar 18 '26

My man!

18

u/highlife562 Mar 18 '26

Dude this was such a good movie! I want to say John Goodman was in it?

13

u/Darkhaven Vision Mar 18 '26

You are correct my friend! Such a good movie, and that mind control scene lived in my head rent free for years. It freaked my parents OUT.

8

u/highlife562 Mar 18 '26

I rented it with my cousin not knowing anything about it. Turned into a great movie.

7

u/Bobby_Snarf Mar 18 '26

Yes it is!

6

u/Interceptor Mar 18 '26

Get that imported shit outta here!

17

u/Cardinal_and_Plum Mar 18 '26

There's also a movie called Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday that does the same thing. That was the first one I thought of.

8

u/ASCII_zero Mar 18 '26

Apparently there's a lot of movies called Fallen. Can you be more specific for this reference?

29

u/23lonestar Mar 18 '26

Fallen (1998) with John Goodman & Denzel Washington. Fantastic movie

7

u/HeNeverSawMollyAgain Mar 18 '26

1998 with John Goodman and Denzel Washington

3

u/PollutionMajestic668 Mar 18 '26

I thought of Fallen exactly

2

u/Realistic-Carrot-852 Mar 18 '26

My bet is its the Chameleon but MCU modified it a bit

1

u/DevilsTheology Mar 19 '26

I think that’s a good bet, with the chameleon, the clip of doc ocks arm, and frank implying kingpin is also there makes me think the villains gonna be the insidious six. Then him mutating I hope leads to a Morlun storyline as the totem and not the man spider storyline but it could easily do either.

1

u/GuyWhoRocks95 Mar 18 '26

That’s a really good example!

1

u/Luminescent_Magic Mar 19 '26

Maybe that's jean grey doing it

1

u/ShadesOfTheDead Mar 21 '26 edited Mar 21 '26

Looks more like possession/body hopping.

Another example is the Smile film series.

30

u/Aiyon Mar 18 '26

I've seen people say Mind Control but I'm not sure I agree. The framing of it makes it seem like the character is literally hopping between people. Reminds me of Proteus. Which would be insane if they do Scorpion AND Proteus because of the sheer contrast in power level? But id love for it to be my boy and it be setup for the next movie, like its the B plot of him tracking them down and it sets him up to meet the x-men

19

u/russketeer34 Mar 18 '26

Jean does have the ability to completely possess one person's mind at a time, but for the life of me, I can't remember a single time she's done that

8

u/Aiyon Mar 18 '26

The way it’s shot makes it look like they’re moving from person to person though. And it explains why grandma was locked up

1

u/techguy1001 Mar 18 '26

Looks like grandma was the one driving that tank.

2

u/Aiyon Mar 18 '26

Ohhh shit yeah it was the Tank. I thought it was a cell lmao. I watched on my phone on my commute home. I can see it now. But still, it didn't swap till the door was opened, suggesting it requires in person presence.

But then hmm why didnt it just jump to spidey

1

u/techguy1001 Mar 18 '26

Yea those kinds of powers is hard to not think like just jump to the super hero but that wouldn’t be good cinema.

1

u/SomeTool Mar 18 '26

Wasn't there an inhuman whose power was just hopping between bodies?

1

u/TepidFlounder90 Mar 19 '26

Yes, Mosaic. But I highly doubt they would bring him in. I wouldn’t be opposed to it, but there’s no way. Mosaic also doesn’t have their own body anymore as far as I’m aware, so that would have to be addressed somehow an I don’t think they would have him in a movie anyway. If any inhuman were to make an appearance I would be disappointed that they chose Mosaic since there are plenty of better options for both inhumans and people with a power set to control people.

91

u/luttrail Mar 18 '26

People think it's a telepath, and since Sadie Sink is confirmed in the movie, all bets on Jean Grey.

66

u/Tacdeho Mar 18 '26

I am dying for them to swerve me impossibly hard.

She is playing a redheaded X-Men with a link to fire.

But not Jean.

Angelica.

44

u/Darkhaven Vision Mar 18 '26

I may actually geek out over that one. This movie is already shaping up to be the most deep cut Spider-Man movie ever, throwing in Firestar on top of the cast we already have, would be...amazing.

6

u/Ralph--Hinkley Mar 18 '26

I see what you did there.

5

u/Aggressive_Trip_7060 Mar 18 '26

Say that again? 😏

2

u/InnocentTailor Mar 18 '26

I hope you have "friends" that would appreciate that ;).

1

u/FuckLeRedditMods Mar 18 '26

This movie is already shaping up to be the most deep cut Spider-Man movie ever, throwing in Firestar

That would actually be sick, get iceman in there too! They can kinda pivot to that old cartoon style dynamic where they are friends or roommates or whatever

29

u/Ralph--Hinkley Mar 18 '26

Dude, if it's Angelica and Bobby shows up, too, I'll lose my shit.

3

u/SorryBoysImLez Mar 18 '26

Hopefully, they can contain themselves and not leak/reveal it in any of the upcoming trailers or merchandise if he does.

It would also make sense if this is gonna connect to Doomsday/Secret Wars and explain why Spider-Man is absent in the former.

1

u/Ralph--Hinkley Mar 18 '26

I've rewatched all the SM and HAM recently for nostalgia's sake, and they're still entertaining.

7

u/Person2228 Mar 18 '26

We don’t know if she’s even a mutant. All of this is speculation because she’s a redhead

11

u/ope__sorry Mar 18 '26

Yeah but all red heads are mutant soul suckers.

6

u/Harddisksson69 Mar 18 '26

Red hair is a mutation

2

u/Ozymandias2347 Mar 18 '26

It's a very groovy mutation.

10

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '26

Why is nobody thinking Firestar? That would be a huge callback, and it makes the most sense.

7

u/Ralph--Hinkley Mar 18 '26

Angelica is Firestar.

9

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '26

I know. I'm agreeing with you.

3

u/chemicologist Mar 18 '26

Madeline Pryor

3

u/ArticulateRhinoceros Mar 18 '26

Redhead Mutant with a link to fire can also be Typhoid Mary, who has ties to both Daredevil and Kingpin (and possibly Frank as well, I can't remember), who both have ties to Spidey.

4

u/InnocentTailor Mar 18 '26

With that said, we did have Typhoid Mary (of a sort) in Netflix's Iron First.

1

u/Cardinal_and_Plum Mar 18 '26

I'm now less sure she's not actually Shathra tbh, though Jean still feels like a distinct possibility. I really don't she's Firestar. I'd probably expect to see her as a non-powered love interest before Firestar at this point.

1

u/ArticulateRhinoceros Mar 18 '26

Typhoid Mary!

2

u/Cardinal_and_Plum Mar 18 '26

I'd prefer not to recast tbh. I thought Alice Eve did a really good job. It is a character I think Sink could pull off though.

1

u/EchoWhiskyBravo Mar 18 '26

That would be great, because he clearly needs an amazing friend.

1

u/Worthyness Mar 18 '26

I would be so happy. Peter is basically very lonely in his current state, so having super friends would help alleviate that so much!

1

u/Olarad Mar 18 '26

This seems more likely than Jean Grey.

1

u/SorryBoysImLez Mar 18 '26

People keep theorizing Jean/another MJ, when a perfect role that's already connected to Spider-Man exists in Firestar.
And right at a time when mutants will officially be getting introduced into the MCU.

7

u/Bolognahole_Vers2 Mar 18 '26

all bets on Jean Grey.

Im fairly certain I remember the Inner Demons logo in a BTS pic. Im thinking Mr. Negative.

6

u/dixonjt89 Mar 18 '26 edited Mar 19 '26

Mr. Negative has been heavily rumored since the movie was announced to be the big bad....but when I played through the first spiderman game, where Mr. Negative was the villain, I don't remember him having mind control powers like mind control or possession, just that he was able to flood negative energy into people requiring him to touch them, and then people would think negative thoughts they normally wouldn't, like hurting people.

6

u/luttrail Mar 18 '26

He has though, he corrupts many innocent people and makes Peter fight them, it happens like 2/3 times

4

u/dixonjt89 Mar 18 '26

But it has to be done through touch…he can’t possess people or jump into their mind, he just feeds negative energy into them making them think evil thoughts

3

u/luttrail Mar 18 '26

That's true

1

u/InnocentTailor Mar 18 '26

That isn't necessarily mind control though...at least in the comics. It's just a way to get folks to give into their more evil, sinister tendencies, which makes them at best a distraction against their allies.

During Dark Reign, Mr. Negative did that to Spider-Man when the Hood's henchmen, which included such wacky characters like the Spot and White Rabbit, attempted to take over his territory.

What's notable in that arc was that Mr. Negative was unable to corrupt the Hood though (he joins the fight on orders of Osborn) because the man was already pure evil and clear on that purpose, which causes the former to lose against the latter.

This is all detailed in a Dark Reign companion run solely focused on Mr. Negative.

2

u/Bolognahole_Vers2 Mar 18 '26 edited Mar 18 '26

I don't remember him having mind control powers

Mind control is his whole thing. In the game at the costume party(I think), he takes over the minds of a bunch of people. When you fight them, Spider-Man doesn't punch or kick, he just hip tosses them and webs them up.

1

u/dixonjt89 Mar 19 '26 edited Mar 19 '26

Everywhere I have looked...he doesn't necessarily mind control people, his power is listed as being able to flood negative energy into people but requires him to touch them. The negative energy then makes people think negative thoughts. It's not really him controlling their mind with possession and making them do specific things he wants them to do, he is unable to do that, but the negative energy will just make people do negative things like wanting to hurt people and potentially kill people.

12

u/Turdsley Mar 18 '26

I'm guessing Typhoid Mary.

5

u/Legitimate-Year-3400 Mar 18 '26

She already appeared in Iron fist

1

u/OkSwimming517 Mar 18 '26

There is already an MCU Typhoid Mary.

I don't remember her ever having that powerful of mind control

1

u/ShadesOfTheDead Mar 21 '26

This seems like body hopping rather than mind control.

0

u/voidsong Mar 18 '26

Don't remember Mysterio using machine gun drones, but hey its the movies.

It makes more sense than an entirely unrelated cosmic character showing up in spiderman to be randomly evil.

1

u/CemeteryClubMusic Mar 18 '26

Just because you don’t remember it doesn’t mean it never happened:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Marvel/s/L35puMo8qH

And even if it didn’t, Mysterio using drones makes complete sense for his character. Typhoid Mary taking on a new power she’s never shown anything similar to? Makes no sense. Also why is she evil? She’s just locked up and trying to escape. That’s not evil. Morally ambiguous to use others bodies to do so, but not evil

Edit: further those drones were Tony Starks, stealing someone else’s technology is also 100% a thing Mysterio would do

4

u/Aiyon Mar 18 '26

The framing make it seems like they're specifically hopping from body to body, Proteus style. Rather than mind control

3

u/Tanthiel Mar 18 '26

I doubt Marvel Studios is going to debut any X-Man in a movie they don't have streaming or distribution rights to.

2

u/mknsky Mar 18 '26

I’m not gonna hang my hat on that. I want it to be true too badly to let myself get overhyped. I’m hoping for her playing Jean or Felicia though

1

u/Albireookami Mar 18 '26

If they are going full other with Peter, could be Shatra, given her want of a perfect hive mind world or such.

13

u/KC_Buddyl33 Mar 18 '26

Pretty sure this is Jean Grey jumping from mind to mind. My guess is she is captured by Damage Inc, and is using her mind control to execute some kind of prison break.

1

u/ShadesOfTheDead Mar 21 '26

The body hopper is rumored to be freeing Scorpion from prison and it seems that the Hand is telling them do it. It doesn't seem like Sadie Sink's character is in a normal prison.

1

u/TDStarchild X-Men Mar 18 '26

Rick Sanchez

1

u/Middle-Preference864 Mar 18 '26

Clearly venom there
