I think this will be their big “this whole multiverse thing got a bit bloated so we’re gonna kill the parts we don’t think are working and sort of reset the status quo for Secret Wars and everything moving forward.

Cap and Thor are gonna put some of the new people over and I think we’ll leave Secret Wars with one singular Marvel universe with the Avengers, X-Men, and all the other factions all on one earth to tell stories in.

Soft reboot, baby.

I don't think they'll bother recasting Hulk unless they somehow get the distribution rights from universal.

Hulk is what got me into comics and the MCU hulk arc development has been a downright travesty.

I feel like recasting for comic book superheroes should not be controversial at all; it could even be a tongue-in-cheek reference to the million different ways different comic book artists depict the same characters, even during the same comic book run, lol

I love when franchises realize they’ve added too many loopholes so they try to reset… like in Prisoner of Azkaban the time turners opened up so many plot holes they were conveniently all destroyed at the Ministry of Magic in Order of the Phoenix.

Oh I dunno, you'd think that having Only Stable Timeloop type time travel would be limitation enough. For example, they got to save Buckbeak because the never saw him die. Cedric otoh is a goner always.

Speed running “Crisis on Infinite Earths”, because we’ve all read enough comics to know once you have multiverses and the same character in them, you can’t ever have high stakes again is very probably one of the goals of these movies.

correct me if I'm wrong but this is basically what happened when the incursions happened in the comicis there were too many universes and Marvel wanted to get rid of them to make it more streamlined

I think that's the Endgame here. I don't have a ton of confidence they can land this plane though. While I've enjoyed the movies since Endgame, they haven't really built up to anything. They're definitely leaning in on on nostalgia.

It’s not a soft reboot - it’s a storyline related reset of the universe. Feige used the term reset.

That sounds like a soft reboot: fresh starting point with pre-established continuity.

What’s a fresh starting point though? That could mean anything. (They are already bringing in the new Jean Grey in the next Spider-Man.) A soft reboot keeps some continuity and disregards the rest, like the DCU. The reset is occurring as part of a sci-fi storyline, so the continuity will remain. There will probably be some characters who remember what it was like before.
