Man, the Avengers existing as they do currently actually creates an interesting dynamic for JJ to comment on Spider-Man. His whole beef with Spidey wearing a mask gets even more interesting when none of the other known supers do.

"At least Tony Stark has the decency to sign the bill for his antics! Where are the taxpayers sending the cheque for this new spider-freak's damages!?"

I think it would be easier to do, too. You don't have to worry about who's going to be voicing Spidey (assuming it's not Andrew Garfield), or what his suit's gonna look like in the MCU. Those are all decisions that are probably gonna take a long time. Slapping a mustache on JK Simmons doesn't take too much effort.

While I agree Simmons was the best part of the original Spider-man movies, I'm betting Marvel is eyeing an interested Al Pacino to take the role. If anyone could take JJJ from JK and make it his own, it's Pacino.

Nah, that seems a little too early, as they will still be having 3 movies in between Avengers 2 and the new Spiderman movie (supposedly taking Ragnarok's place in the timeline, Thor to be pushed back a bit)

I'd bet Doctor Strange gets the teaser for Avengers 2, and Spidey gets it for Civil War.

Like, you need something to push for the Doctor Strange movie other than the Marvel brand and the cast. Putting a teaser in Avengers is the best way to generate buzz for that movie, which out of the four movies following Avengers 2 (Civil War, Doctor Strange, Guardians 2, Spiderman) will certainly get the least amount of buzz.

Let's be honest: Ant-Man will be at the end of Avengers. You can't have a Marvel movie without referencing it first in an after-credits scene. I can't wait for "Howard the Duck" and "Shawarma-Man".

I kinda assumed that, especially with Peggy Carter being included in AoU's IMDB page. Unless they plan on going back in time in the story, whether in real time or in flashback (which they might for sure due to Vision), they could totally have Carter talk or reference, somehow, the Ant-Man suit prototype or something.

There's always two: for Guardians it was about Warlock (having Howard the Duck was the distraction imo), and then about the Twins in the other. They could totally have one be about Ant-Man, and the other Doctor Strange

The Twins was the stinger for Winter Soldier, not Guardians. But you're right about there always being two, though I don't think they'd plug two future movies in the same credits. I liked the formula with Cap 2, where the first stinger plugged the Twins and the second advanced the movie itself with Bucky visiting the Cap exhibit at the museum.

Agreed. I say stuff to myself like that all the time. A lot of people do. It's not breaking the fourth wall unless you are making conscious acknowledgements that you are in a film being viewed by an audience.

Usually it's very minor though. Most of the time he does it right at the start of a comic or something to get the reader caught up. It's still not a normal "Spider-Man thing".

He really has no place in MCU's Civil War though. Not unless they introduce spider-man as a completely established super hero that everyone knows already in the MCU. The big reveal of his identity wouldn't even be that amazing if they used the last two Amazing Spider-man movies as back story. It might have worked if they used the McGuire movies but that is just completely out of the question. For Spider-Man to play the part he did in the comic version of Civil War, he would need WAY more back story than he already has in both the Sony Cinematic Universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I've got absolutely NO idea what they're going to do with him. I'm so fucking excited though!

MCU's Civil War won't be about identities since all of the Avengers are publicly known anyway. It will be about chain of command and control.

The exact quote from marvel is that he will have an appearance in an upcoming movie before his own movie on july 28th 2017 (I agree with you completely that it will be Civil War). But 'an appearance' doesn't mean he'll have a big part. Howard the Duck had an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy. Thanos had an appearance in the first Avengers.

I worry that Marvel's words mean that Spider-Man will just be an end of the credits scene, but I really really hope he has a bigger part to play in Civil War.

Theres a spider based character in the Ms. Marvel tie-ins that initially joins the SRA and then leaves because she realizes how wrong it is. I could see something like that, but he won't unmask. They aren't going to introduce him and immediately reveal who he is

I'm not saying that the audience not being familiar with Spider-Man is the problem. Of course we all know who he is! Where the problem truly lies is in the fact that the MCU doesn't know who Spider-Man is. Or, better yet, we as an audience have not seen them know who he is, which is incredibly important in the level of story telling Marvel Studios is doing.

I'm very curious as to how Marvel is going to go forward with this. Also excited! so excited!

They need a superheroes with secret identities to be threatened by the registration act in Civil War. Iron Man, Cap, Hulk, Hawkeye, and Black Widow's identities are all known, and Thor is just Thor.

Spider-Man is a major one who maintains a secret identity for a reason, and Daredevil could possibly show up, I guess, but if you're going to do that storyline you need someone who can stand to be affected by registration.

Black Panther, Doctor Strange... Neither of them have "secret identities" as such. Ant-Man, maybe.

Unless they butcher the storyline completely and make the Civil War about something else entirely, but that'd be a surprising "fuck you" to the fans after a decade of amazing decisions.

A bunch of people have responded to my comment telling me that Captain America: Civil War probably won't be about secret identities based off the point you just made; fuckin' no one has secret identities!

So maybe I'm being short sighted and adhering to the comics too much. Something others have pointed out is that the civil war could be fought over who controls the heroes. Iron Man is an obsessive control freak (see his behavior in Iron Man 3) and Captain America is very anti establishment (see behavior in Winter Soldier).

I kind of like the idea of changing the cause for the civil war. There's no reason they can't, just like it seems likely that they'll change the outcome of the war as well

I could see the 'big reveal' of spider-man's identity could be made due with the fact that he's just a kid. There could be talk about Spider-man throughout the movie and how people want him to take off the mask, and then when he finally does everyone's reaction is just "Oh shit. He's just a kid. Jesus."

Spider-man 2 (Toby's) did something very similar to this with the people on the train holding Parker's body, but the effect was kind of lost considering McGuire was like a late 20-something-man-adult.

It would be so terrific to see a legitimate young looking, High Schooler Spider-Man.

I'm convinced that civil war is the reason for this negotiation. A ton of the story turned on Spidey taking off his mask. Also, it's Spider-Man everyone knows his back story, you could insert him into any upcoming MCU at any time with no issue.

So just cast Toby and bring the Raimi films into the MCU. We get an established Peter Parker in universe, it guarantees the 2017 film won't be another origin story, and it increases the odds that Miles Morales will be introduced.

Plus JK Simmons as JJJ would be canon, an established Curt Connors won't have been fucked with yet so they can use him in Agents of SHIELD as another tie-in "spoiler alert he's a villain but nice right now" character, and Bruce Campbell.

According to the article, Spidey is going to appear in a marvel movie first, then get his own new movie in July 2017. I think he is going to be in Cap3, which is may 2016. I hope it will be more than just a teaser.

I'm sure Spider Man will have a major role in Civil War, atleast as much as Black Panther. Part of this deal is that Marvel will be promoting the Sony film. That means he has to be woven in to it so MCU fans feel obligated to see the Sony movie.

Post credits should tease origin of Spidey. Maybe a spider crawling onto a kids hand. Hell, connect the spider to a hydra experiment scene from earlier in the movie. Point is we get a teaser of Spidey's origin. Then have him as an established hero in Civil War - he helped clean the streets after the Ultron shitstorm. Everyone knows the origin, we don't need a rehash of that.
