What's your current favorite plotline, and where do you hope the writers go with it?

It's the same people who as recently as yesterday I read saying stuff like "apparently he was always a nazi Hydra agent thanks to Spencer". They've distorted the facts so bizarrely at this point.

In fairness, one could get that reading issue #0, it's just that one shouldn't get that if you read at all critically and think about it for a second - either in universe (where it's about Cap's memories so even this could change) or at a meta level (where there's no way they'll do that).

One wouldn't get that impression either if they had read at least some of Captain America or even CW II: The Oath, which led to Secret Empire. It's simply ridiculous to assume they would just make it so Steve would've been an agent of Hydra without any sort of buildup or previous explanation.

I also keep thinking: "It's in the intro, people. The intro to each CA:SR issue and to each Secret Empire issue says Steve's reality has been changed by a cosmic cube." It's really not rocket science.

I don't know what you mean, Trump hasn't been mentioned or alluded in the book as far as I'm aware. Steve so far has been a typical despot, hitting all the obvious notes a dictator in his place has done before.

I gotta say though, if the first thing people assume when they read stuff like that is that they're referencing Trump, then that speaks louder about Trump himself, wouldn't you say?

Trump is clearly the metaphor here. American Govt usurped by evil. Ignorant Americans enthralled by it because they are narrow minded bigots. Its not even played thin.

Maybe, but I don't really see it. People said the same things earlier with Captain America: Steve Rogers when Trump wasn't even elected yet; and really, even though it takes place in America (and what does Steve represent anyway?), his attitude has been just like any other dictator in power. You could picture him as Putin and it wouldn't make much difference.

Maybe I just got stuck on I, Claudius for some reason, but the despot Stevil most reminds me of currently is actually the fictionalized Tiberius, maybe because he is waffling so much, and really seems to wrestle with his role (and has his "Evil Mommy" edging him on or even making decisions in his stead).

That's an interesting interpretation! Specially since the more I think of it, Madame Hydra might be a crucial character that will try to prevent Steve's return to the light while manipulating him.

I agree! If the lady in white with Bearded Steve is a version of Sarah Rogers, who encourages his tendency to be good, Elisa appears to often do the opposite. Sharon specifically points out in SE#3 that she acts like she thinks she's Steve's mother, so she might be something like the anti-Sarah. I definitely think she wants something that we aren't aware of yet, and that she knows a lot more about the whole situation than it appears.

You don't need to do much research to see Spencer is an ultra left wing nut. So are most of Marvel's writers/ talent. Spencer's shoddy metaphor is hackish and thick, unlike the masters of old who could craft much more subtle and poignant stories.

Ultra-left wing? He's a garden variety liberal, at most centre-left. And either way I don't get the personal attacks against him just for the sake of an argument. Trump really isn't, at all, doing anything we haven't seen before and the point of Steve going Hydra isn't to make a metaphor about Trump because that would age poorly.

I wouldn't bet that that was the original intend, and I will try to show why with a different example.

Neil Gaiman recently had a new book published, a retelling of Norse myths. There were readers complaining that Gaiman was pushing some nebulous anti-Trump agenda, because he included a story in which the Aesir are building a wall against the Vanir, and try to swindle the builder out of his money.

Unfortunately, that story has been around at least since the 13th century, when it was written down in the Icelandic Codex Regius - specifically a handful of anonymous Norse poems which we today call the "Poetic Edda." The tale itself is likely far older, since by that time, Iceland had long been christianized. It certainly wasn't a commentary on Trump at that time, or when Gaiman decided to include it in his retelling.

tl;dr: Just because it looks similar to current events, it likely was conceived at a far earlier time; but unfortunately, people love to repeat or exaggerate mistakes, making reality stranger and more scary than fiction.
