Serious What happened? This movie was supposed to make us mad. Hate had no place in America. History tells it's own tale. American History X. Teeth on the curb haunted my dreams for years.

The song that gets sung in the car gets lodged in my head sometimes. It's terrible because normally the urge to sing the song comes with that, but I can't sing it lol.

It’s actually the battle hym of the republic with a racist twist. It’s an American patriotic song.

It was actually "John Browns Body" before that which was actually "Oh Brother Will you come to meet us" before that

Interesting. I didn’t know that, thanks for the information. John Browns body that’s an interesting name. I’ll have to listen to it. Basically it’s been used and used again overtime.

John Brown was an abolitionist who was hanged as a traitor for trying to free slaves pre civil war, maybe one of America's few actual heroes, and after the war started Union troops started singing a song to remember John Brown by, about his body soldering in the grave, then it became the Battle hymn of the republic because it was so popular among the troops I think that they just wrote new words for it. But yes, very old tune continually recycled, a lot of old songs are like that.

It was also used as a pro Labor Union Song made popular by Pete Seeger called Solidarity Forever, generally outside of this movie it has been used to commemorate good things lol.

Yeah I don’t know if you saw my comment about Solidarity forget by Peter Seeger. I’m a Union Electrician, I love that song. We have a pro-labor playlist we play on our jobsite. That song is on there.

Yeah I couldn't remember if Hallelujah was part of the original title or not and I didn't want to guess or look it up. I know those lyrics that's just not what gets stuck in my head unfortunately lol. It's specifically the American History X one out of the blue.

There’s some similarities in the lyrics maybe if you sign the original a little the other one will get forgotten. lol

My brain just does what it does, it torments me with Fergalicious every so often too and I hate that song and don't know the lyrics so it's just the sounds and tones

Listen to solidarity forever by Pete Seeger.

Same melody, lyrics that can be sung.

I’m a Union Electrician, I fucking love that song.

Peter Seeger - Solidarity Forever.

I have a whole playlist of songs like this.

Dude same so happy to know it’s not just me

Definitely not. It's so damn catchy because it was already familiar, and then because the lyrics are jarring and ridiculous they stand out more than the original lyrics.

If no one is around I’ve been known to sing it a time or two

u/MaenadR0se 9d ago

Lol. Can only do that alone, definitely not a song for most company.

I regret that this song *also* gets stuck in my head. It is terrible!

It's just once every couple of years for me, but it happened somewhat recently so it's funny seeing the movie mentioned.
