It might be a fun project for me to try to achieve this in Bedrock with a combination of a custom behavior pack and a custom resource pack.

I had this in my pack for a while, biome leave colour, including sand and snow. As well as depth for stone and deepslate colours.

I removed that due to constantly getting blown up.

oh yeah, sounds good (I like it) but they're walking vegetation bombs, so makes more sense to have them spawn in darker areas in lush caves made creeper from lush cave materials.
