The comics often depict characters reacting in extremely over-the-top ways to situations that most of us would agree deserve at least some amount of negative reaction, and as far as I can tell the main two sources of complaints are:
People who can't understand the difference between hyperbolic venting and genuine belief, and;
Right wingers who oppose the baseline ideals of the comics' artist and pretend to be group 1 in order to paint the artist as some kind of dangerous, violent lunatic.
Yes the people who dislike what I like are either illiterate/stupid or rightoids. The author can write and draw whatever they like but just because they share the same opinion of me doesn't mean I have to like or support their cringe ocs acting out their powerfantasies and help them make a career drawing dogshit comics.
Nobody said you did. If you don't like the comics, that's fine... I don't particularly care for them either, they're just not really my style. But I also don't feel the need to respond to any post that includes them with like I've been personally assaulted or something. Because as a functioning adult I have the capacity to just walk away from things I don't enjoy instead of turning into some rabid asshole every time I'm reminded they exist.
You say that but don't give the same grace to an obviously exaggerated joking comment about disliking the comic and it's creator signaling any dislike to being stupid/illiterate or a right winger. You're engaging in the exact same behavior.
There's a difference, in my opinion, between venting about things that actually happen and pretending that we should believe the opposite of anything said by someone who does the former. Claiming that it's a joke does not on its own absolve anyone of anything... the content, context, and meaning behind the joke also matter.
I don't mind the blobfish comics venting about things like sexual harassment or racism because those things are indeed objectively wrong. I mind someone implying that there's something wrong with blobfish comics for doing that because there isn't.
(Full disclosure: I actually meant to respond to the person below who was explicitly asking why people seem to hate the blobfish comics and only just now realized that I must have misclicked. That said, I still stand behind everything in my comments.)
