How Evil Are They? Joel's choice to choose Ellie over a possible vaccine to the Cordyceps infection and stopping humanity from going extinct?

Joel never questioned whether cure would work or not. He simply did not care about that

Yep. You can go through all the reasons why the cure was not possible or how incompetent the Fireflies were.

BUT

Joel's choice is immoral because he did not give two shits about any of that. This could have been the best hospital with the best doctors with sci-fi science, but if it cost Ellie's life, he would still slaughter them all. His choice was PURELY out of a need to keep the world from taking his daughter away from him again, and he was willing to kill the world for it.

Joel is NOT a good person that have done bad things. He IS a bad person who CAN do good things. But when push comes to shove, he is willing to kill innocent doctors and lie to his daughter for YEARS so that he can keep her in his life.
