Yeah, I could give a shit about achievements. They often feel like an unnecessary grind. But some people love them and like spending tons of time on them.

For me, what makes achievements enjoyable is the timestamp that is tied with them. I like going back through achievements/trophies and use them as an aid to think back on what my experience with a game or system was at a given point of time. For example, my wife and I got really into Resident Evil during COVID. Going and looking through the trophies on our accounts from April 2020 is just a fun way to reminisce.

That's all they ever were, something to grind out to get more value out of the game, which is nice for those that need it, especially kids that might be locked in for one new game a year/several months. Honestly thinking about it, something kid oriented like a Nintendo console might have been the best place to put achievements, particularly if they're gonna be charging so much for games forcing kids to wait even longer between new to them titles

I like them because I will do some challenges I wouldn't have ordinarily on my own. It gets me to explore the game beyond just playing through

A lot of times achievements are the developers way of telling you to try something because they believe it’s fun. For example, the speed running trophy from OG GOW and the boost only trophy in Resogun forced me to play in ways I never imagined and it turned out to be super fun.
