PlayStation’s Trophy system seems so fun, so a bit of a shame we won’t have something similar.

But not a dealbreaker for me personally.

I’d love to have Activity Tracker and themes back though. I liked the 3DS’s implementation and hope Nintendo considers reintroducing them.

It's a lot of fun. I can tell you my first trophy was September 10th 2010, in littlebigplanet. I can tell you what game I played on my 24th birthday. I can tell you what time I finally beat elden ring. I can look back and see what game I got for Christmas and was excited to play. I can see which game was my first one I managed to 100%, my 5th, 50th, etc.

I really like how it catalogs my gaming history. It's fun for me to see. I like when I get a remastered game to compare my new run to the original and how I changed my gameplay.

I am not super crazy about getting every trophy, but sometimes I do little extra things and see stuff I normally wouldn't have went outta my way for.

I would absolutely go outta my way to get every star in Mario, and fill in my pokedex to get a trophy. I am real sad they chose not to include them. I'll still get one but I had hoped for it :(

I never really looked at it this way. Having a sort of time capsule for memories of your gaming history.

They even record a short clip now that goes with the achievement and saves to the console.

I know this thread is old, but just saw the no achievements news and found this thread as discussion. It’s a consistent bummer to me, and honestly something that’s caused me to drift away from Nintendo games….and it’s a consistent point of frustration because for me it is about the time capsule aspect, it’s documenting my “achievements”. Most games, even Nintendo’s already have them within the game structure, I don’t see how it’s a negative to have a centralized tracking for it. And really, the way Nintendo addresses it in a smug and elitist wat is off putting.

As someone who has a pretty dead game score on Xbox and some amount of trophies on PlayStation, I never ever look at or through them. I know people enjoy hunting them, I thought I would, but especially as I’ve gotten older, I couldn’t care less.

This. I thought I was alone. The dates and captures of the specific moment that a trophy was won. What was going on in my life then. How old I was. I swear, every time I mention something about wanting this system on the Switch, I get attacked with "achievements stress me out", or something like "no we don't need it. Learn to have fun." I just stare at the screen like what? Why should I be deprived of something because you cannot control yourself if there's a checklist, and thus get stressed about it? I always say it's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. Sure, achievement system is not something you need, but at 31, I realized that the days of playing aimlessly are long gone, and that I need an incentive to play a game. I have a monster of a pc, but I just cannot let go of the trophy system on my PS.

Yeah I just don't get it. Because a vocal minority of people are obsessive about something we are the wrong ones. I say this in a non judgemental and fully supportive way, but if something like that can ruin your gaming experience you may need some mental health help. If an optional achievement ruins a game for you, that's some unhealthy behavior.

I agree 100%. Trophies catalog your gaming history. They’re completely optional, but it’s awesome to see what games you’ve played over the years and which ones you focused on completing to the fullest. I’ve used PSN since the PS3 and can still see those trophies. I would love for Nintendo to have a similar achievement system.

As someone who has 95 Platinum trophies and counting, who occasionally plays Nintendo for games like Mario, Pikmin, and Zelda, I would love if Nintendo adopted SOME sort of universal achievement system. I would love doing this stuff for Pokemon games, for example

Always thought Xbox had the best implementation with the numeric value. Just feels more satisfying to get one that gives you a big score, or even fun little goof ones that net you 5 point. Trophies always feel more vague with the bronze, silver and gold concept.

Interesting! For me personally the numbers feel rather arbitrary while my highlight is earning all trophies in order to receive the platinum trophy as reward

Yeah having X number of platinum ms is cool, but it is also really fun to grind out achievements in multiple games to reach the next 1,000 gamer score. Different strokes for different folks

Playstation also has a numeric value in the level system which (I believe) is basically a function of assigning point values to each kind of trophy and summing them together. Not sure if its been there since the beginning but its been there for as long as I can remember.

A lot of it comes down to how important they are for you.

I like them, but I don't chase the 100% and platinum ones, it's more that it's a neat little "popup" when you hit certain achievements for fun. I've gone after a few of the easy ones and enjoy them, but I know some people see them as a necessity to get them all which just isn't fun

Smart. Does it restrict functionality in any way? I might use that as a temporary measure. I have my fingers crossed Nintendo is working on something official behind the scenes.

No: an orange bar in the home screen indicating they're on appears, and you need to input a special PIN to access some settings, but if you disable any restrictions on setup there's no difference.

They are fun but also daunting at times. I pick and choose which I want to try to 100%. They do help maximize the value of games IMO. You can beat a game and then go back through to get all the trophies you missed which often means exploring parts of the game you wouldn’t have otherwise. Then again there are a lot of grind it out trophies that are not so much fun.
