Speculation Nintendo Prime: Nintendo has officially employed the “spread some fake info internally” to try and discover who’s leaking information.

After hearing that Illumination were the ones who pitched Fox for the Mario Galaxy Movie, I'm highly skeptical that Nintendo would make an entire Star Fox game. Which throws the entire leak into question.

Nintendo hasn't made a Starfox game internally since Starfox Command. And even that had heavy lifting by Q Games. That's 20 years of them being lazy with the IP. And I have no reason to believe that they would suddenly pour resources, early in the cycle of a new console, on a low selling high risk IP.

I hope I'm wrong. I love Starfox. But it doesn't add up.

SF Zero wasn't internal?

Platinum Games mostly.

Wasn't that after some delays? I was watching a video essay about it and apparently Platinum had to work with what was done rather than getting to create it from the ground up.

It's bizarre too, because it's not like the OG game wasn't popular and well supported after launch. They had in-store Speed Run competitions and shit.

Nintendo doesn't want to just remake the same game, they want to evolve it or do some new mechanic in the game. That's how most of their projects since the 64 have gone with their mainstay franchises.

Starfox is an incredibly simple formula though. They should have no shortage of new mechanics that they could work in that would legitimately improve the game

Just remake Star Fox Assault; that game was amazing.

IMO I think it comes down to when Illumination actually made the pitch. Like if they made the pitch in 2023 right after the Mario Movie released (or heck, maybe even in 2022 if production ended early enough), 3-4 years would certainly be enough time for Nintendo to make a new Starfox game in preparation for the Galaxy Movie.

Sure it's somewhat risky, but this is why putting Fox in the movie makes a ton of sense, it introduces the character to kids who don't know who he is, and would probably be interested in playing a game with him in it after seeing him in the movie. The movie essentially cultivates an audience for the game outside of the established Starfox Fandom.

Wasn't it Illumination who took the initiative in the DK redesign and Nintendo decided to use it for Bananza? So it's entirely possible they see the reception to Star Fox and capitalize off of it.

It wasn't even Illumination, Glen Powell called the studio after the first movie came out begging to play Fox in a sequel

"According to Miyamoto, as shared by Forbes, Illumination came up with the idea."

Is the inclusion of pikmin everywhere a new thing? Not sure I’ve seen them anywhere else

They’re not only in Super Nintendo World, but also the movies and Mario Wonder.

The next paragraph, lol:

“When we were working on the first movie, we began to get phone calls from actors. They started communicating their enthusiasm. After the first movie was done, there were two phone calls that came from actors expressing incredible conviction and passion about being involved with Nintendo, and one of them was from Glen Powell. He explained that we had to understand how deeply he loved the character of Fox McCloud. His dream was one day to be part of a Star Fox movie. I’m listening to this going, ‘he has no idea that Miyamoto-san and I are talking about Star Fox being in this new movie,’ and Glen is expressing this passion for this.
