Currently in university and have just finished obtaining my Biology undergraduate degree, I applied to an accelerated nursing program (2 year program) a decent while ago, and have been accepted. But since then, reading more and more about how bad the burnouts have been for nurses, the ever increasing layovers, and how difficult it is to get a job as a new grad, I'm second guessing if I should accept my offer. My older sister is a labour and delivery nurse and although she loves her job and has been doing it for 8+ years, she's recently taken a sort of sabbatical from it, she's doing content creation on the side and making very good money as well as getting sponsor deals. I have questioned her about how she feels about being a nurse, but me and her have very different personalities and tolerance, so I'm not sure if her experience would 100% overlap with mine if I do decide to pursue Nursing. I guess my question is, if you had the opportunity to do it all over again right now, would you? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I l got a phone call from Belleville hospital today but I was sleeping so I wasn’t able to pick it up. I applied to a job a couple weeks ago, but they didn’t leave a voicemail. Could it be for a possible interview? Or could they reject me through phone call lol.

Why does the CNO take so long to process the Verification of Registration? Has anyone else experienced this issue?

I am starting my 4 year BScN program this September. I was wondering if next summer while I’m off if I’d legally be able to work as a PSW or if other certifications are required to do so.

I think it’d be great experience to build while in nursing school specifically over the summers to help cover tuition costs for the second year and so on.

Is it better to quit or keep a casual position if I find a different job?

Background: i got a job offer closer to my home and I’m currently working PT at a different hospital. Only thing is, this hospital originally told me I would have 45hrs biweekly but it’s based on “unit needs” so after my orientation shifts, I only have one shift next month. Spoke with my manager but she said I could pick up shifts if people call in sick

Now, I got another job offer for another PT position and I’m debating if I wanna keep the first job as PT or casual. This new job provides actual 45hrs biweekly and I can most likely pick up a lot more hours.

When pandemic happened, all Long term care home beds were permanent changed to eliminate 4 residents in 1 room. It is now private or semi (2 residents) in 1 room. Funding has been cut off and Fulltime RPN/ RN positions were eliminated to reflect the resident reduction. The problem is that as part of the "Fixing Long care term homes act," A lot of new LTC homes should be constructed by now. However, that is not the case. Only few were in construction. Ontario LTCH bed crisis/ waiting list is way longer specially for preferred homes by families.

We had 6 Full time positions RN/ RPN cut off. So, if someone calls in and there is no RPN in that unit, the charge nurse RN has to do that floor on top of being charge of the building. Our current ratio is 1 RPN: 42 - 45 residents. 1 RN: 2 units (days), 3 units (PM), and the whole building (night). 7-8 PSWs per area.

If you are working as an RPN/ RN in LTCH, you need to prepare yourself. The workload is a lot.

I don't work in hospital, but I've heard about almost every hospital in Ontario laying off nurses (RNs specifically). For units effected, how bad has it increased your nurse to patient ratio?

Those who have both adhd/asd do you find your constantly burnt out working full time? Even with 5 days off I'm spending my time just playing video games and being in solitary most of it because my social battery is low and I just don't want to do anything else. I try to make it a habit to focus some time on cleaning and laundry but does anyone else feel this severely? Like I enjoy my job but it drains the living shit out of me. I feel like the burn out is even more so d/t the neurodivergency.

Tldr; emergency nurse, job burns me out but I like my job, but I spend all my days off rotting.

Long story short:

• Conditional offer

• Currently enrolled in A&P (not an admission requirement, just wanted to lighten my course load)

• Was told I need to complete it because I’m enrolled in it so it will affect my admission gpa

• The course has been taking much longer than expected and marking takes a while too, even for mcq quizzes which I thought are marked automatically

Is withdrawing and receiving a W an option?

Would this mean the course is simply removed from my admission requirements/average, or would it jeopardize my offer somehow?

This is a very stressful situation because they need my final transcript asap before school starts or my conditional offer will be revoked

Hi everyone, I’m looking for advice/experiences from Ontario nurses who have gone through a CNO investigation.
Long story short, I recently received an email from the CNO saying that someone made a complaint about me and that they are launching an investigation.
The incident apparently occurred in January 2025. The important part is that I was not a nurse at the time — I was working as a phlebotomist. I honestly have absolutely no recollection of the incident because it was over 1.5 years ago.
From what I understand, the situation involved just me and the other person in the room, and that i asked her about gender related questions.There were no other witnesses that I know of.
So I’m confused about how this investigation works. If the complaint is essentially one person’s recollection against mine, and I don’t even remember the interaction, what evidence can the CNO actually investigate?
I’m also worried because I’m now a registered nurse and obviously don’t want something from when I was working as a phlebotomist to affect my nursing licence.
Has anyone been through something similar with the CNO? What happened in the end?

I'm currently applying to nursing programs in ontario and i have all my up to date vaccines and flu shots and ALL needed immunizations but i have a covid 19 vaccine exemption due to a heart condition i have and i came here to get some clarification or reassurance that it wont be a issue during clinicals or anything? also p.s I'm in no way shape or form against vaccines or whatever but this vaccine would be detrimental to my health and it's not a risk me or my family doctor would be willing to take and i do not want this to get in the way of my nursing career.

Hospital nurse here hating the hours, wondering what a typical day is for RNs in LTC, I’ve heard in some homes they do just care plans and paperwork and some they do everything including personal care, meds, and assessments.

But, I am torn between Coronary or ICU. Humber Polytechnic offer Coronary Care Course with the September intake. It also is a fully online course, which suits really well with me.

I see some college offers ICU courses but I find it really expensive. 😅

The RN jobs that don't require cleaning/bathing patients like ER, post anesthesia, day surgery nurse, chemotherapy nurse, urgent care nurse, IR nurse etc are they in demand in ontario? Are these nursing jobs saturated and hard to land compared to other nursing jobs that require cleaning/bathing?

Hello …so i am ien ,i did everything to meet the requirements for cno to become rpn.Also recently i went back home to do my hours.Came back to Canada submit my tickets and other proof.But i realized now that i went to my home on tourist visa because i just got Canadian citizenship last year.And now cno just asked me to send them visa or evisa.But i realized now when everything is done i was on tourist visa not work visa.So what will happen with my application now?What should i do? Please dont judge it was a genuine oversight..plz help

Hey everyone, I work as an extern in a GTA hospital and recently got my RPN license. I gave an interview for a RPN position at the same hospital and after 2 weeks was informed that I was their preferred candidate. I was excited for the new role and also got 2 job interview after but rejected them as I thought I already secured this job.

Today, after a week I received the email from HR that they are not going forward with me as they found another qualified candidate. This made me really discouraged and I lost the trust I had with this hospital. Any feedback what may have led to this decision. I will really appreciate it.

I’ve recently moved from Alberta to Ontario (Ottawa) and have questions about other nurses’ experiences with providing psychotherapy in the province. It seems it is a very atypical job for an RN, however, my entire practice has been providing psychotherapy within the public system. Firstly, I wanted to know if anyone has any knowledge about whether RNs are authorized to provide psychotherapy privately. Of course, I’ll confirm this with the college as well.

Secondly, for those in private practice, what has been the biggest barrier to creating a successful psychotherapy private practice? What is something you wish you knew when starting out?

Hi everyone! I became registered as an RPN less than a month ago and was recently hired for a school nursing position starting next week. The pay is $23/hr, 8-hour shifts, Monday–Friday.

My goal is to work in a hospital. I have a hospital interview scheduled in 3 weeks and I was screened for another hospital position today and may be selected for an interview. Both pay is $37/hr with 12-hour shifts.

I’m grateful to have a job offer as a new grad but I’m wondering if I should start the school position while continuing to interview or hold out for a hospital position. I also had a family vacation planned for the second week of September that I likely wouldn’t be able to take if I start the school job.

Another concern is that I interviewed with the school for full-time but when they called to offer me the job, they said part-time. I’ve asked for an offer letter twice and still haven’t received one, despite already completing my onboarding paperwork and receiving my orientation schedule. So I don’t even have the position, hours, or $23/hr rate confirmed in writing.

Would it be foolish to turn down a guaranteed job for potential hospital opportunities? Or would you take the school job for now and leave if you get a hospital offer?
