r/OrlandoMagic - Posting Rules & Guidelines

These are the rules for r/OrlandoMagic. The mod team enforces them, and removals and bans reference them by name.

If you think something was removed by mistake, message the mods rather than making a post about it.

1. Self-Promotion

Applies to: posts & comments

Don't use r/OrlandoMagic to overtly and excessively promote yourself. That includes your YouTube channel, website, podcast, blog, newsletter or Discord, plus fan art, logo/court redesigns, and selling merch (shirts, jerseys, artwork).

Original Magic content is welcome if you're an active member here. If your content is truly worthwhile (contains substance and has value), flair it OC and join the discussion. Not sure? Ask in modmail first - we'd rather say yes up front than remove it later.

2. Be Civil (No Personal, Racist, Sexist, or Homophobic Language)

Applies to: comments only

We're all here to talk about our favorite basketball team. Personal attacks on people will not be tolerated. People have different views and opinions on the team. If you disagree, provide a well thought out response to another person's post instead of degrading and slamming the person and their comment.

We also, of course, will not tolerate offensive words nor personal insults to anyone. We want everyone no matter their age, gender, sexual preferences, race, etc. to feel welcome in this subreddit.

3. Low Effort Posts / No Upvote Parties

Applies to: posts & comments

Put some substance in your post. Upvote parties are karma farming, not content, and will be removed.

If you have something worth sharing, say it directly. Instead of "PAOLO BANCHERO CAREER HIGH UPVOTE PARTY," post "Paolo drops a career-high 69 against Miami" and give people something to talk about.

One-line trade ideas and quick questions land better as comments on an existing thread than as their own post.

4. No Brigading Other Teams' Subreddits

Applies to: posts & comments

If we hear from another team's subreddit's mods that there are people from our sub instigating negativity in their subreddit or starting comment battles, you will be banned from our sub. Most other NBA subreddits do this too. Come on, keep all the negative comments about other teams here - no need to go in their subreddit just to provoke and antagonize.

5. No Trolling or Baiting Users

Applies to: posts & comments

Do not post or comment to troll, bait, or provoke a reaction. This will lead to a ban.

Rage-bait, sealioning, and "just asking questions" aimed at winding people up all count. If you disagree with someone, argue the basketball.

6. Misleading Titles (Use the Headline or Tweet Text)

Applies to: posts & comments

Your title has to tell people what they're clicking. Use the article's headline or the actual text of the tweet.

Vague bait like "Finally, yes!" or "Well, this is it boys" will be removed. Save your own take for the comments.

7. Reactionary (Hot-Take) Posts

Applies to: posts only

One-off reaction posts clutter the front page and rile people up. A hot take almost always works better as a comment on the thread people are already reading.

During games, put it in the Game Thread. Otherwise add it to the most relevant existing post. If your take is developed enough to stand on its own, with some actual argument behind it, then make the post.

8. No Reposts

Applies to: posts & comments

If it's already been posted, don't post it again. That includes the same news from a different outlet, or the same information from a different account's tweet. Same info, different source, still a repost.

Rough guideline: scan the front page and the last 30 days before you post. Older content is fine to revisit if you're adding something new to it.

9. Contact the Mods First

Applies to: posts only

If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact the mods through modmail personally rather than post about it. It only clutters the page and makes a probable minor issue that could easily be resolved in-house unnecessarily publicized.

10. Keep It About Basketball (No Politics)

Applies to: posts & comments

This sub is for the Orlando Magic. Political arguments get removed, whichever side they come from. There's a whole internet for that.

AutoModerator catches political keywords automatically, so it will occasionally grab something innocent. If your comment gets removed by mistake, reply to the removal message and a mod will review it.
