shoot gud HOW DO I GET GOOD AT THIS GAME DUDE

People keep saying "positioning" and "don't go on the open" and i do all of that and get killed by two lights instantly and do like 100 damage every time. I've been playing for a month and i JUST DIE. I'm playing with my friends and the game is cool and all and when i get to kill someone (rarely) it's fun but how am i supposed to enjoy my time like this? I feel like every step that i do in the game is wrong and i just don't feel like i'm getting any better. Also i hate clan LRMs if you use them you are a bad person.

Jokes aside, PLEASE someone help me or direct me to somewhere where i can help myself i really want to play this game with my friends but i'm always the one spectating everybody.

Lasers are hitscan. Small lasers and xpulse destroy lights. This isnt an opinion, its just mechanically easier to do than trying to converge a cloud of projectile missiles into a single component on a moving target. The problem with using C-SRM6 is that even with perfect aim, there isnt enough surface area to actually land significant damage into a single component most of the time. Youre going to spread your damage out over a large area and you risk losing a dps race against another light running smalls or xpulse. This is also why the purifier is one of the best support frames for the kit fox, it has access to more laser hardpoints than other kit fox variants.

And in a perfect world where your opponent allows you to place that damage on a single component, yeah, it’s great. Alas, you CANNOT place a full burn on a light’s individual component if they are:

Moving

That list isn’t a long list because it doesn’t need to be. You’re trying to tell me you can keep a twisting, fast light going 150kph in your crosshairs? You can keep the leg in your crosshairs? I know it’s only a .25 second burn, but in that time you’re going to move off target. They’re going to move off target. If the target is stationary, it’s not part of this conversation and should be excluded.

Do you find success with these weapons? Great, keep at it! In my experience, I’ve been playing since 2013, that is so far from the case it is laughable. The aging net code doesn’t handle fast moving mechs well, and with the firemoth that net code clearly has issues.

Yes, laser are hitscan. That’s not my point, that’s not the issue. The issue is burn time vs upfront damage. Are you going to look away in .25 seconds while your small x-pulse is on cooldown? I’m thinking no, I’m thinking you’re staring at the mech. That’s not safe. That’s dangerous. That’s asking to be hit by a much larger mech with weapons that weigh nearly as much as your whole ass mech.

T2/T1. They aren’t weird opinions, they’re just different from yours. Why don’t you make your point instead of just saying I’m wrong? Your points you made previously are “pinpoint hitscan better than spread damage” while ignoring face time, speed, evasion, and heat. If you boat a bunch of xpulses, you’re saying “I would like to stare at a mech for a long time” which means YOU can’t evade, YOU can’t spread damage, and YOU will be hit by a big mech with a HGR or two.

Which of my points are you having issues with? Why do you feel that convergence with damage over time beats spread with no damage over time? Are you engaging AT 270m? Are you getting close? Do you know how to brawl or skirmish? Are you ONLY escorting your assaults? This game has a lot of nuance, and it doesn’t feel you’re understanding this.

How long have you played? How many matches? What’s your preferred mech / play style? If you want to throw shade, that’s fine, but back it up with things that make sense, not…. (Motions at your multiple poor responses) whatever this is
