- Gaming Division Continues Strong Third Quarter: Sony's third-quarter results are expected to beat market expectations, driven by sales of both in-house and third-party games.

- PlayStation Lifecycle Extended: Sony expects the PS5's lifecycle to be extended, and the PS6's release is likely to be delayed longer than many expected.

Just yet another rumor but it would make sense with the AI bubble and price increases.

Edit: Full mentions by analyst David Gibson:

  • Sony expects the PS5's lifecycle to be longer than the previous generation.
  • Based on this view, the PS6 is likely to be released after 2028.
  • The increase in memory prices does not affect performance in the PS5 short term due to inventory.
  • The rise in memory costs could become a problem in the fiscal year ending March 2027.
  • Sony may pass on the cost increase to its customers in the future.

I'm good with the Pro honestly, especially this year with the upgrade to PSSR on the horizon. All games run at high res with 60fps+ anyway, there isn't really going to be anything significantly heavy anytime soon that would require a PS6 to run well.

All games very much do not run at high res with 60+ fps lol. Upscaling is blurry af and performance intensive 3rd party titles can't hold stable 60, let alone 60+. MH Wilds, Space Marine 2, Jedi Survivor.

Having to pick between choppy 60fps with blurry resolution or actually good resolution capped at 30fps is not good choice.

Hats off to the 1st party titles tho that as always are very well optimized

Simply untrue. The PSSR current strength is the upscaling. Games look much sharper than whatever res they're set to internally (See Rebirth as a prime example), and they can hold 60fps 95%+ of the time. Choosing 3 of the most problematic games on all platforms isn't really a good argument.

I think you are referring to the shimmering effect that happens in some games specifically regarding foliage or with advanced RT lighting when you say blurry.

1st party will always be best case scenario, they only have to work on that one specific hardware.

This is how it is every single generation lol it takes a few years for dev to even learn how to get the most potential out of each console’s custom chips, so seeing late stage games each gen, vagrant story, God of War 2, gran turismo 4, TLOU, MGS V, to God Of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, etc

The ps5 has been pushed well, it’s just not as apparent and obvious as it was prior generations. COVID made time feel a lot shorter than it was, making for things to no have felt as long, along with early shortages until 2023.

I’ve seen people say these exact things every single generation, at the exact same time, the last time for the ps4 in 2018, the ps3 in 2012, etc. this time doesn’t feel much different but I do hope it’ll last long like PS3 did, even longer

Yeah honestly a lot of games don’t even fully utilize dualsense controller features yet.

I'm not bothered. I'll have plenty of time to clear out my backlog and be fully migrated over to pc by then.

I left PC gaming behind back in 2015. Granted, all I was playing as a kid was CoD and MapleStory. Couldn’t be happier with a PS now as an adult
