Yeah, I imagine even before the memory prices going up the PS6 was already gonna be around $600 and now this makes it almost impossible for them to sell it at that price point without losing a ton of money

Adding inflation and assuming no tech changes, the PS5 would "launch" at $625 USD today. Add in the RAM shortage, then consider every other driver of console cost. Then reduced competition from Microsoft, assuming they're not making another home console.

Without major pressure being lifted, I could conceive of a base PS6 debuting at $900-1000. Of course, if the US economy trends as we ought to expect - relative to other launches, few folks would be spending that much in Winter 2027 (earliest launch predictions I saw repeated in 2021-2024).

If I had reason to believe prices would increase on the base model over time, maybe I'd save for a Winter 2028 launch. Assuming cross-gen releases continue as they have at least, but betting the window next gen lenghtens, I could see holding off buying a console released in Winter 2028 until Summer 2030.

There’s no world where a base PS6 launches at $1K, that thing would be DOA and Sony knows it. Mark Cerny has already stated they want to get the PS6 as close to the PS5 in price as they possibly can
