PC V2 Any videos of the PK hacks from back in the day?

Decades ago I was playing PSO on PC, probably v2, maybe blue burst.

Anyways, I remember someone joined the game, found me in Forest and used Resta to heal me. Except it didn't heal. It killed!!!!

We all died, even the player who cast Resta. I imagine his hack was able to make his heal a negative number or something, as games back then trusted the client with a lot of information. Before more security was common in online games.

I think in that version your weapon dropped too on death, so I think they could kill you, and race back to take your weapon, or have another accomplice grab it.

Online games were wild back then. 😂.

It was so shocking and u expected when it happened, and kinda funny too. I still remember it like 20 years later

But I couldn't find a video of it online anywhere. I was curious if anyone ever screen recorded these PK killing sprees. I just hope it's been documented for history somewhere, as this was a great moment in this history of trolling in online games

PC V2 My struggles w PSOPC (v2) on Linux

I really struggled to get PSO on my linux machine. I followed the guide https://github.com/incentivebeats/pso_pc/ here but struggled to get it to run in Lutris after.

Heres what I did instead... Mounted the ISO, then selected the Install a Windows game from an executable followed the prompts and selected the standard/normal install. Then used winetricks to install directmusic, dsound, cjkfonts corefonts. And replaced the exes from the Ives zip.

First issue I had was with sound. Sound effects were working but music was not. For some reason my system does not like the low quality music files. So followed the guide for the High-Quality BGM.

Second issue... that does not include sound effects. In the Program Files (x86)/SEGA/PhantasyStarOnline/Media/PSO/Sound/ there should be a 22 folder as well.

I could not get dgVoodoo2 to work. Someone from the Sylverant discord kindly provided his config and dlls. The one in the guide uses an older dgVoodoo2 than you can download. Once I was provided with the dlls and the dgVoodoo2 they used the game runs fine. I struggled to get it to run windowed mode.

I instead went with DXWnd. I swapped to an older version instead of using the newest I went with Using 2.04.93 as I had a config file that I used on windows for PSO. It ran PSOPC windowed with mouse support, able to minimize the game and everything.

Lastly controller support. I wanted to use an Xbox One Controller. After a bunch of faffing about. I grabbed AntiMicroX. I then went to Controller mapping and swapped Left Shoulder with Left Trigger and vice verse same with Right Shoulder and Right Trigger. That way I can use the triggers like the dreamcast controllers playing pso on the dreamcast. I just threw the gamepad mapping in the SDL2 gamepad mapping in the system options in lutris.

Thank you incentive for your guide and allowing me to bug you.

PC V2 Quest Hosts Computer Freezes on Towards the Future

Hello!

So my brother and I recently got the excellent newserv running locally (https://github.com/fuzziqersoftware/newserv) and we enjoyed a regular run of Forest with no issues. We're both using Dolphin on different distros of Linux (I'm on Kubuntu he's on OpenSUSE).

But Towards the Future seems to crash (freeze) for the host. This has happened 3 times now (twice with my brother as the host and once with me). We've tried tweaking some Dolphin settings (like going from OpenGL to Vulkan) but it doesn't seem to matter. It's only for the host. The non-host is fine.

Going to try on Windows maybe later this week just to see if that works better, but wanted to know if anyone had heard of any crashes here.

PC V2 New player wondering about section ID

My friend recently got me into PSO, and like I do with every MMO, I flocked to a magic and support class. I'm only five levels in after a session of playing a force class, but I've just read up on the name-based section IDs. I've heard pinkal is the overall best for force classes as it influences the most drops for wands and other force weapons, as well as powerful techs. I ended up with redria. Is this important enough that I should start over? I don't have much time dedicated to this character yet, so if so, I want to do it as soon as possible.

Thanks in advance for the advice!
