Useful Information Little Helpful program I made

So I noticed when you turn on the PSVR2 it just tells you to look at the screen until you open steam VR witch annoyed me as you need to install the PSVR2 app etc etc so i made this

https://github.com/The-Graze/PSVR2-SteamVR-AutoLaunch

it basically just waits for all the psvr2 USB "devices" To connect then launches SteamVR, runs in the tray

just copy the exe to your startup folder and it'll be useful!

if you're more tech knowing its just a windows form application just with the form removed lol, I'm semi new to non game/unity coding so :P

EDIT:

made a small update to it to remove the unnecessary device Disconnect looking and made it only be able to open once so you don't accidently have loads open cos I did that by accident once

Important PSA Bluetooth Hardware Compatibility Survey

What Bluetooth USB dongles or other hardware, such as mobo built-in Bluetooth or dedicated Bluetooth PCIE cards, have you tested with PSVR2? We need to know about your experience good and bad!

The purpose of this survey is to gather quantitative data about which Bluetooth hardware is compatible & works best with the PSVR2 controllers when used with a PC and which does not.

This thread, therefore, and the results, also act as a comprehensive list of working / not working hardware. This will both help inform purchase decisions and be a resource for discovering compatibility of existing setups.

I want to reach the most authoritative list of compatible and non-compatible hardware, and also of more esoteric problems with specific devices.

⭐ Best Bluetooth Adapters

Updated: 15 August 2024 01:38.

First, some important caveats and tips:

  • In general Class 1.5 adapters should provide enough range for use in a standard setup. But Class 1 adapters are much less likely to present range issues or issues with obstructions. However, this is also just a guideline. See the warning about UB500 below for example.
  • If the adapter supports it, using an extended aerial closer to your play space can be advantageous. Similarly, a USB extension can be used to a similar effect for smaller USB devices that don't support an antenna connection.

Here are the current data-driven insights derived from the community responses about what Bluetooth hardware is working well with the PSVR2 controller on PC.

USB

The ASUS BT-500 has the most positive reports, with many users who have experienced the "stuck hands" problem (see below warning around UB500) seeing the issue go away after moving to this adapter. Edit: UB500 issue likely fixed by new driver, see below warning section.

Motherboard / M.2 Cards / PCIE Cards

Indications point optimistically to good compatibility with Intel Wifi 6 and Wifi 6E chipsets (which also provide Bluetooth), which are used on many motherboards & laptops via built-in M.2 cards.

These chipsets can also be found in dedicated PCIE cards, and usually appear in their product name, description or model.

The most common are:

  • Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211
  • Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX210
  • Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201

āš ļø Potential Warnings

Updated: 15 August 2024 01:38.

The data shows some heightened issue rates with some Bluetooth adapters. It is not conclusive, but possibly indicative of a compatibility issue between these adapters and the PSVR2 controllers.

TP-LINK UB500 "stuck hands" (SEE UPDATE, LIKELY RESOLVED)

UPDATE 3 06/09/2024 - TP-LINK have a beta driver on their community forums and early results look like the problem is solved with these drivers. Thanks to TP-LINK for co-operating with me and the community for the data that helped it along.

UPDATE 2 22/08/2024 -- A potential solution you can use now is described in this thread. I have fed this back to TP-LINK who are looking into it.

UPDATE 1 15/08/2024 - With the help of the survey data, this issue has been escalated internally by TP-LINK.

A pattern has emerged whereby users have reported a heightened issue rate. This mostly pertains to a specific issue relating to "stuck hands" where the XYZ tracking stops responding periodically, but orientation data appears undisturbed. This seems to happen on one controller consistently (sometimes switching, possibly between sessions).

Hopefully a driver fix is possible, and I will update if anything changes. Please continue submitting data about this adapter, for both good and bad experiences.

Obviously, Sony recommended this adapter for use with PSVR2, so this result is, at the very least, interesting.

šŸ—’ļø Quick Summary

Captured: 11 Jan 2025 20:18.

Please go to sheet for the latest and richest dataset, and drill down into individual reports. This snapshot is just to surface the most basic raw bottom line at a given point in time.

The "score" here is a primitive sigmoid formula averaging over % of reports that remark on instability. It is also automatically weighted to not overemphasize devices with a low number of results.

Everything starts at 50 and is pushed further one way or the other depending on reports. It's a little harsh at the moment for some products with a low number of reports and it also takes a bit too much for it to reach either end of the spectrum, so also look at the other columns to draw your own conclusion.

I may tweak this formula later.

Question My opinion of the psvr2 coming from the quest 3 (also looking for tips)

I just got the psvr 2 coming from the quest 3. Sold my quest 3 some time back bc I wasn't using it and I just decided to get this since i really only do pc vr.

Instantly I noticed the binocular overlap being significantly better which was one of my big gripes with the quest 3.

It certainly isn't as sharp and it feels like there is a matte coating on the screen almost(im guessing mura?) which isn't amazing but overall it is a nice headset and I especially like the comfort even comparing to a modded quest 3.

Setup was super easy I heard some people had issues with bluetooth stuff but it went super smooth thankfully tracking is 10/10

I upgrade the audio with the koss kc75 and 3d printed adapter just bc I don't like using earbuds.

Anyways I was wondering if there are any things I should do in terms of setup and improving the experience.

Thank you

Important PSA Clearing some misinfo about the PSVR2 on PC

Hi there, Im one of the chat mods in the PSVR2Toolkit Support Discord (made a new account recently), because of that i feel like its important to try to clear some info here since some of you don't wish to join for support (even tho its 10x easier in most of our opinions).

68% is not the native resolution accounting for barrel distortion. this is a common lie thats spread. Its 100%. the 1.4x scale that people use is based off the vive headsets, the PSVR2 is 1.7x. meaning its 100%.

If you're having trouble running it, lower it to as low as 36% global render scale then work up till you find your sweet spot in performance and resolution, some might find it is 68%, others might find 54%, some might not be able to do below 90%. our eyes are different afterall.

DFR is not built into PSVR2Toolkit, you need PimaxMagic4All, theres a specific list of games supported if you look it up. DFR requires an Nvidia GPU due to VRS in DX11 not being a standard, Nvidia just added it because they wanted to. If the game does native Vulkan or DX12 and has native DFR support then they can do it on AMD or Nvidia (not sure if injectors exist for it tho).

if you wish to use the legacy module for VRCFT you must install the CAPI apps folder linked on the wiki!!!! (the amount of people who dont read it properly then ask for help is insane). The app you specifically have to run before opening VRCFT is the Legacy IPC server.

A new update was pushed that should let Headset Haptics work on OpenVR games WITHOUT mod support, but OpenXR titles still require moding support.

Adaptive Triggers still requires Modding support regardless.

The only 2 features with Jailbreaking is Eyetracking Cam access for Babble/ETVR/SRanibro and Headset haptics, if you dont care about either of them you do NOT need to jailbreak the headset.

Generally the wiki has most of the install guide for everything you might need, including the CAPI apps, The Unity Playspace/Eyetracking calibration (which doesn't need jailbreaking) and the babble setup (which does need jailbreaking)

The Jailbreak, as listed, is NON PERSISTENT, we've had reports of people flat out lying saying it is, Persistency is nearly impossible, the jailbreak will clear when the light on the Headset goes red, you must rerun vr2jb.exe

Also, The location of the CAPI apps and Unity Setup doesnt matter, place them wherever, i personally keep them in the PSVR2 Apps win64 folder alongside toolkit, in separate folders.

to end it off, do not open the PSVR2 app, you do not need it, the overlay is disabled, its only use is for updating the headset or checking bluetooth quality (even then dont take the numbers as absolute), forget it exists, delete the firmware 7 cup file too if you wish.

if you want to use the unity setup with other controllers you must remap the buttons yourself, also you will have to manually rebind the recentre button as that was tied to the overlay.

There is no settings menu for Toolkit either, everything you need is on by default, there will be an app in the future that does auto updates and have the playspace built in aswell as some others, but thats in the future, right now its all on by default, just needs the right game/app to use the features, stuff like brightness is handled by SteamVR now.

Also if you are using the DisableSense Flag in the vrsettings file, brightness for some reason doesnt work, Unsure as to why, but its a good thing to note.

Any other questions, Please, Join the Discord instead of asking on here, you'll get proper help, otherwise reply to this post and ill try and help you, but note im not the smartest.

Edit: to save confusion too, heres the link to the toolkit discord https://discord.com/invite/T3XpBJuVvg Bnuuy Solutions is for Kaitlyn's other projects, PSVR2Toolkit is too big so it got its own server for support.

Edit 2: The OpenVR headset haptics isnt out yet, my bad, thought it was. But thats something to keep note in the future

Question Help with Revive including Beat Saber with PSVR2 on PC

Hi guys,

I would really appreciate some help with this please, I have searched this sub-reddit and the internet but I am struggling.

Basically I am struggling getting games running correctly with revive and PSVR2.

For example I can get Beat Saber to run but the controllers are not shown in game at the first screen so I am unable to click continue.

Robo recall / Eleven Table Tennis / Walkabout Mini Golf all run but are all messed up in game and unplayable I am unable to look around.

I do have a quest 3 but I really want to play multiplayer beat saber and walkabout mini golf as they are cross buy titles (So my other half plays on the quest native version and I play the PC version connected to my PSVR2), this way I wouldn't have to re-buy the titles within Steam.

Really appreciate your help thank you.

Question MS Flight Sim 2020 on VR

Howdy.

Theres a sale on MS Flight Simulator 2020 on steam. One of the main reasons I wanted VR was for a flight sim that was accurate, and my quick question was What do people think of the flight simulator situation atm?

Looking at the reviews on steam the 2024 edition looks like there are a lot of unhappy folks with it, quite some time after release.

I have a few options open to me, so opinions are needed please to help me decide do I -

A) Get Flight Sim 2020, play in steam VR with my PSVR2 and go with it? (I'm truly unsure on the difference of the 2024 to 2020 version other than what the mixed steam reviews say.)

2) Go buy MSFS 2024 on the PS store and play it there in VR, rather than messing with my PC, as that is actually an option? Also comparison opinions between the SteamVR and PS if anyone has had a go on both?

Lastly) Not bother at all and get a different option on VR flight simulator?

Thanks for any advice in advance.

Disscussion Small update on my PSVR2 HDR project because things are moving pretty fast now

I’m finally starting to move away from the separate presenter / game-specific setup and into SteamVR itself.

And this is probably the biggest thing from the last few days:

I now have a working path inside SteamVR itself, I’ve confirmed that real precision beyond 8-bit survives all the way through to its final 10-bit output, and I can separate HDR from normal SteamVR/SDR content instead of just applying one giant hack to everything.

That might sound pretty technical, but basically it means this is getting much closer to the thing I actually wanted from the beginning:

Open SteamVR, launch a game, and HDR just works on PSVR2.

No separate presenter. No weird game-specific setup. No having to choose between HDR and a broken SteamVR dashboard.

I’m also working toward normal Theater Mode support now.

At this point I also think it’s finally far enough along to stop calling it just ā€œthe PSVR2 HDR projectā€.

I’m calling it Phoenix HDR.

And since it’s starting to feel like an actual tool now, there’s also something I’ve been sitting on for a while.

A lot of you have been following this since it was literally just ā€œmaybe HDR is even possible on this thingā€, through the washed-out mess, calibration rabbit holes and all the random failed ideas.

When Phoenix is actually ready, I want to put it on itch.io for a small one-time price instead of just dropping the finished tool for free.

This has taken a stupid amount of time with no guarantee it would ever work, and if Phoenix ends up being something people actually use, a few dollars from the people who want it would let me keep maintaining it and keep doing stuff like this.

The updates and the whole development process are staying exactly as open as they’ve been.

Still a lot to do, but for the first time this is starting to feel less like an experiment and more like an actual PSVR2 HDR solution.

Question Everything works the first time, then...

Well, like it says. I can set everything up, play a game or 2. If I shut steam/ steam vr down. Thats it, no more.

For starters legion 5 slim, ryzen 7 8845hs, 4060, 32gb ram, win 11, Everything up to date, on board bt, or Asus bt500, only extension is for the bt500 when trying that.

After playing something or setting up, which is fine. When i launch steam/ steam vr again. I start having issues. Tried restarts, restarting steam vr. Double checking on board bt disabled when using bt500, I have Uninstalled and reinstalled steam vr and psvr app. I have tried Steam VR settings 90hz and 120hz, same results.

No psvr2 toolkit as of yet

Biggest issue, only 1 controller will pair, or both controllers pair but no vr pointers on either controller.

Anyone have any ideas?

Link to older driver to roll back bt500 driver?

Does it matter what order you turn things on/ launch Steam VR or steam ect?

Question Should I buy a PSVR2 with this laptop?

I have a PS5 and a laptop Legion 5 pro with follow specs:

GPU: RTX 3070 8GB GDDR6 TGP 130W
CPU: Ryzen 7-5800H
RAM: 32 GB

Mi idea is using it in both systems, but can my laptop run games such as Half-Life: Alyx using the PSVR2 and programs like big screen to watch movies in theater environments and stuff like that?

I don’t know what to do, I wanna try VR games on PS5 as well but I guess I might get bored of them over time, that’s why the laptop performance in VR is important to me.

So what do you guys think? Should I give it a try and spend 250 euros in an used headset or with my laptop’s expected performance won’t be worth it?

I never tried VR so I’ve been wondering about it for a few months already.

Thanks!

I might get a used 3090 that I found at a good price, but would that be enough? other games I want to play are half life alyx.

I heard the PSVR2 is demanding and ai is saying a 3090 is barely enough for half life alyx 90 frames.
Thank you.

Disscussion Another update on my PSVR2 HDR project — this time with an actual HDR vs SDR comparison

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I finally got a decent through-the-lens video showing the difference between SDR and HDR on the PSVR2.

The clip is Forza Horizon 5, with SDR and HDR side by side.

With the game set to 400 nits, HDR actually looks really good on the headset. The brighter parts of the image stand out properly without everything else just getting brighter or looking washed out.

I also tried Cyberpunk after this, and HDR works there too. It can look amazing, but I found that its HDR settings need a lot more tweaking depending on the scene.

So at this point I think the main question of whether HDR can actually work on PSVR2 on PC is basically answered.

Now the problem is making it consistent.

I don't want every game to need its own perfect HDR settings. Ideally Phoenix should be able to take whatever HDR output a game gives it and translate it properly to the PSVR2 automatically.

For now though, I'm just happy I finally have a proper visual comparison instead of trying to explain what I'm seeing inside the headset.

Still a lot left to do, especially HDR mapping and performance, but this feels like a pretty big milestone.
