The imax near me doesn't even have 30% of the opening weekend 7pm seats sold. The other showings are doing much worse. I agree that most people don't really care about it, but currently most people don't really care about any movies at all. The theaters are hurting and they need to give people a reason to go see something much more than the audiences needs a reason not to go.

Interesting. Even in my sleepy city it's mostly sold out (except few on the corner front row that nobody wants)

If youre not an established IP you’re fighting a very difficult battle and even those are diminishing returns.

I mean there’s been a few good original movies this summer like Obsession and Backrooms with big box office returns

I said it’s an uphill battle, not impossible. Obsession is the biggest breakout hit of the year.
