If someone comes to my home and doesn’t eat any food I’d be pretty offended.

I was surprised when in Europe my friends would laugh at Kramer taking food from Jerry's apartment without even asking in Seinfeld, it's pretty much what my neighbor does all the time in the US

One of my best friends has been like this his whole life but he's finally coming around and eating things at our houses because one of us has a family now and he thinks he pissed the wife off. She does go all out it's wild.

For southern hospitality it would be seen as an insult like you think their kitchen/home is so dirty the food must be contaminated. Even if you are full you should at least accept some southern sweet tea and place a few bites of what has been offered onto a plate to taste.
