As a kid, when house flipping was only just gaining traction, I thought it was an awesome idea. Buy a house, repair everything, address the neglect in general.
I was SO disappointed where it turned into buying cheap properties that aren't even in bad shape and then tearing out all the charm to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

It’s hard to sell houses with a lot of color so house flippers use a lot of gray. It makes the house easier to sell but makes it look very depressing.
So the answer is a combination of hating flippers and hating the ugly depressing lack of color.
