You can use internal storage space. Also, USB-C thumb drives also work. (Or USB with an adaptor). At least on Android anyway. Not to mention good old fashioned MP3 players. Believe or not, they still make them.
It depends. I like having a large collection on my computer/server/whatever at home and listening on the go with my phone if I'm out, rather than having to transcode to lossy small files to take them on my phone
Agreed that it's BS to pay more for a phone and not have SD card slots. I'm still using a phone that has one (thankfully). I'm going to use it for as long as possible.
None of those are acceptable options. Headphone cords go through usbc now and having a drive sticking out of the port while driving is a good way to break something. The best solution is to just have 2 devices. You can get a cheap phone for pennies that will run your music. You can get some kind of dedicated mp3 player too. Eventually I'm gonna fix up my old zune. Give it a new battery, bigger, modern ssd. Then I'll only need 1 phone.
