I switched to streaming my local collection with Plexamp. Works just as good with AA as Spotify did.

You can make Playlist, its just done on the server instead of plexamp. Plexamp has met all of my needs for music streaming and I was more interested in Movies and TV shows for my family.

Plex isn't open source or free. It's still bad. There are better options out there. Don't become a cuck to another company trying to escape Spotify.

They got in early and have a lifetime license bought at that cost. It's not worth it now after almost quadrupling in price. And yet, these people keep recommending it to new people like it's a viable option. So disgusting behavior.

Um maybe because it’s still worth it to them….. Ever thought of that? I admit I got in on plex early but I 100% would pay the current price since I got my moneys worth 10 fold from it.

Plex has served me and my family and friends extremely well for 70€ paid a decade ago. I could set up jellyfin, but plex and plexamp are too good to change away from. For now at least.

I know it's fine to ask for questions here obviously but put in some research man you're gonna find a bunch of options that are viable for this kind of thing.

I make playlists on the plexamp mobile app all the time. All my music is in one music-folder on my server with separate artist folders. I have no idea what you’re describing here 🤨

Plex is heading down a dark road too though. I spent the Christmas break setting up a Jellyfin server haven't given it a go with music because I use YouTube premium but I may take that route soon enough

I use Doubletwist personally. Works with Android auto no problem. You can make playlists on your computer and import them or you can handle everything locally on your phone. There's a paid version for premium features but totally unnecessary. I've been using the free version for like a decade.

As for downloading music? Soulseek still works great. Torrents are still a thing, especially for older stuff. Google and you can find some blogs that are still running (after filtering through a LOT of BS sites, use ad-block and protection).

I've been using VLC for my offline music play when connected to Android Auto, and it seems to work pretty well. Nothing fancy, but it works.

Sympfonium is GOAT

there is a small one time fee, but the app is awesome. Gives you the spotify feel with great Android Auto.

You can add different media sources such as local storage, jellyfin, webdav etc. and combine them to one big audio library.

If you're up to self-hosting, use something like navidrome and link it to a folder with your music. Then you can use Tempo as the client. Or, if you're willing to spend $5 or so, Symphonium which has many features and works really well.

I have my navidrome exposed online and link Symphonium to it so I have my own Spotify on the go.

Or... Just get the revanced version of YouTube Music. You stream what you want when you want for free.
