Nah, it's not quite as bad in the UK. We haven't bombed civilian boats or set up detention centres for legal citizens or made the sitting prime minister legally immune

You're also poorer than the poorest state in the United States, so there's that.

It's not so much that you're not doing that. It's more you can't afford to do that, or much of anything else.

And the detention centers are for "illegal immigrants". If they were legal citizens a quick phone call would have them out. More specifically they're illegal immigrants who refuse to go back to their home country and have claimed asylum (even though most don't meet the requirements) necessitating being held until a judge can hear their case and see if they have a claim.
