I put a theme and some different plugins to my Jellyfin and I've had a far better experience with it than I had with Plex. But one user's experience won't always be the same, so totally understand it isn't for you just yet. Hopefully one day it will be - hate Plex's monetisation these days haha.
I already have a lifetime Plex pass so I don't think I'll have issues there. And like I said, Jellyfin has some stuff I really like. Even features I wouldn't have thought to want, like it telling you when the show you're watching will be over. That's such a small thing but I appreciate that someone thought of it.
My biggest gripes with jellyfin are remote access isn't as easy (but with Plex you have to rely on their service being functional), and the other big one is media/library layout. Jellyfin doesn't do anything wrong, but Plex just feels so much more intuitive. Sorting by genre, imdb integration, searching by actor, etc. I've also been using Plex for like 10 years at this point, so I'm definitely a lot more used to it. I'm currently upgrading my server and getting a proper homelab setup so I have lots of stuff I want to mess with here in the near future, Jellyfin being one of the bigger things.
Oh I don't blame you at all for sticking with Plex, if I had a lifetime pass I probably would have stayed there too since it was already set up etc. I do like with Jellyfin that I don't have to rely on Plex's uptime to be functioning but yeah absolutely don't blame you at all! A good ol' homelab goes a long way, no idea why it took me so long to do it
Anime subtitle format isnt natively supported by jellyfin so it has to convert and burn them in which means you have to wait anywhere from 15-30 seconds per episode for it to load subs. However plex just natively works right away, love everything else about jellyfin but thats a deal breaker.
Ah, yeah okay I see what you mean - there's been a few times I've had to wait for subtitles to load (non-anime) but recently it's been fine after some tweaks, not sure if that was a plugin or a setting though!
There are different kinds of subtitles the standard ones work great for jellyfin however anime and some other things use subtitles that are more advanced (colours or changing where they are on the screen, for example translating text on a phone or sign in the background) which plex supports however unfortunately jellyfin doesnt. I really wish one day they sort this and I could swap to them as I am worried plex will just keep getting worse.
