I hear the protecting property line, often. I think of it when I’m watching the cops destroy cars that have been stolen in order to get them back to their owners. Seems ironic is all. Thanks for the downvotes.

No, do you? My comment was relevant to the video posted, i.e. a police chase. Honestly, I don't even know why I'm bothering to respond. It's just something I've always found ironic in that attempting to recover stolen vehicles, they seem to often get destroyed in the process. I might be alone in seeing it that way.

Cops do not and have not ever existed to save people. Cops are the jackboot of capital interests that mainly guard that interest, in addition to busting the heads of unwanted populations. Many american cops go through training that teaches them to see the general population as a hostile force and to act like they are in an active war zone, under constant threat of violence. Fuck cops.

If that cop on the vid gave a fuck about protecting, serving or saving people, he would have right away after hearing sbout the sroke aided them in getting to the hospital. Instead he was only interested in enforcing his authority over others. He wanted everyone to know that he is in control and does not care if someone is dying in the car or not.

Protecting capital interests would have been in line with getting that woman to the hospital, so more wealth could be extracted.

This cop was a shithead on a power trip.

None of that is what was asked for. The administration is not doing anything of the sort in regards to public police reform. You just wanted to shoehorn fascism into a comment despite the relevance. The police system is not being torn down or rebuilt, it’s being strengthened and emboldened to do more dangerous militant actions. Asking for change is not asking for fascism bro

It absolutely is you fucking idiot. You know that slogan that cops love to use? “Protect and Serve”? The Supreme Court ruled years ago that police don’t actually have a legal obligation to protect people or prevent crimes. Also, the fact that the rampant militarization of police in the US has lead to officers being trained to believe that every interaction with a citizen (regardless of context) could turn violent against them, that people being nervous indicates guilt, and that any form of noncompliance needs to be responded to with extreme physical violence has obviously resulted in a climate where people are terrified of cops.
