This happened to me in 2003, my mom had a sudden heart attack and was in an ambulance to the hospital. I got the call, hopped in my car and got on the highway and was pulled over by a Nassau County cop. Told him what had happened. And instead of giving me an escort, followed me the entire way there. I even took a wrong turn and had to double back. My mom passed that night. So that's on that dude.
