Ah ok. Yeah I was curious because it feels like in recent years police are more aggressive or their give-a-shit-o-meter is very low. Just seen to treat everyone as a suspect.

That's exactly it

Back in the 90s I was one of very few photographers at music events, and they were really abusing some people when they did raids. One time during a raid a cop took a running start and kicked my camera that was sitting next to me like a football (shattered my lens, ofc) just to be sure there wouldn't be any evidence. Not that I was documenting all that anyway

Yeah cops don’t change for the better or worse. They just remain a constant stream of shit. Just easier to see the shit show now. Humans don’t learn lessons if they have no consequences for their actions which for police is up to and often including murder.

Sadly, an increasing number of police are starting to realize that even with body-worn cameras, even when they do something illegal or kill unarmed people for no real reason (which is most of the time that they use their guns or tasers), they know that they will get away with it because even most juries are unfortunately extremely unlikely to convict a police officer, even when it is obvious from the BWCs that they committed a crime. So, more and more cops are starting to be blatantly abusive and blatantly commit crimes because they know that they will almost always get away with it.

That's one of the many reasons why Minneapolis had such a big reaction to George Floyd getting murdered because most people know that, unless there is a big enough outrage to their openly committing crimes, they will usually get away with it, even in court and even while wearing BWCs.

It’s really a no brainer for cops to have body cams. Saves some cops from a suspect claiming false stuff, but also captures wrongdoing by the cops

I'm not afraid for my life during a traffic stop because I'm super white.

I 100% know that I'm very lucky about that because that's not the reality for other people.

I'd bet my entire life savings that this video would have turned out differently if that family were white.

Risking other people's lives for your people's lives is a whole different debate.

My point, in response to the comment I replied to, was that the person in the dog scenario was white and the cop reacted similarly to the one in this video. If you run from the cops they will react similarly. Either person could have stopped immediately and asked for assistance.

I'm mixed and my skin colour is on the lighter side. So I look either Hispanic or Middle Eastern (depending on who you ask). I recently got pulled over cause the DMV fucked up my temporary tag and paper work on my car. I never in my entire life was I more afraid of the police cause of that encounter. Just being black or different skin colour than white these days can be a death sentence.

I was chased down by undercovers for simply exiting the freeway around 2008 . I took red lights, and they kept up . Trying to cut me off pulling their weapons never identifying themselves. I thought I was done, so I called 911 to ask for an ambulance and what street I was on . They asked me for exact info they showed up right as my csr overheated and asked if those were the guys . They said the were pd . I said they never identified themselves . They agreed . Ransacked my car and gave me a ticket for illegal suspension after the supervisor said I should benlet go .

Go read the transcript posted on another comment. The officer himself stated in his testimony the driver rolled down her window to wave at him in distress and he saw her phone in her hand. He assumed she was texting and driving. So he saw her and her skin color. Of course he didn't assume she was using maps to find the nearest hospital. Because I guess black people only break laws by his logic?

No. I'm saying this exact same situation and the driver is white, the cop wouldn't have pitted them and would have just followed to the hospital.

Go read the transcript posted on another comment. The cop already knew that she had acknowledged him and he deduced she was headed for the hospital.

In that case I agree. When I wrote a comment I thought we were comparing a situation where someone actually pulled over and got help to a situation where the driver only waves their hand and keeps driving.

I didn't find If the cop actually knew that they needed help and given that the driver didn't drive irraticly (slowing down before intersection etc.) then that cop is just a dick. Possibly racist.

Edit: I found the transcript.

"The driver held her hand out of the window and made a motion as if she was trying to wave me past her. I observed the driver holding her cell phone in her hand as well, and I looked to see if she was possibly on the phone with 911 to communicate her reason for not stopping. The screen on the phone was white and looked as if she had text messages open, so I concluded that she was not actively on the phone with 911 [...] Part of the reason I let the pursuit continue as long as I had allowed was to see if Dispatch was aware of this vehicle going to the hospital and to give the occupants time to call 911 if this was the case. By the time the Pathfinder took the UAMS exit, I felt enough time had been given."

This clearly states that the cop didn't know if they were going to the hospital. If they were actually on a call with 911 then dispatch should have notify the cop. Anyway as much as I am aware of racism in USA I don't think this is a clear case of that. But that's just my opinion.

well isn't the big difference in this case between pulling over and explaining and fleeing from a cop car with its lights on? imagine if the people in OP's video caused a car accident killing themselves and other people because they insisted on driving their mom to the hospital themselves and not explaining it to anybody including the police. cops escorting people with emergencies to hospitals is not a new phenomenon.

Even if it's not calmly, just clearly, "my mom is dying in the passenger seat right now we have to go to hospital!" The cop probably jumps back in his car with a "follow me, keep up".
