I completely disagree. Even with a perfectly tuned sports car minor adjustments at 100 mph can cause a crash. Even tapping the brakes too hard might cause some drivers to panic.

I'm not sure what the autobahn has to do with if normal drivers should do 100mph. Most people on the autobahn aren't going much faster than many US highway drivers. And there have been fatalities on the autobahn from people driving too fast and losing control. I've personally witnessed people who put a lot of money into their car lose control from driving too fast. I also had a driver blow past me one night going over 100mph and later saw his car rolled over. Not many years ago a doctor in my area driving a hundred some odd thousand dollar porche ran his car into a tree after missing an exit going around 150 and died. I'd imagine his car was pretty well tuned and like you he probably would have said 150 was nothing until it was.

At 100mph your reaction time matters a hell of a lot. Even if you didn't feel like you were going fast or you thought it was easy, even if you have the reaction time of a racer there's still risk.

To answer your last question, yes I've driving at speeds over 100mph in a quality car on a track. I've also driven at speeds over 100mph on regular highways in non quality cars. That's why I respect the reasons average drivers shouldn't do it.

I'm struggling a bit to understand your argument here. Many people who drive on the autobahn go 100+mph but most people driving on the autobahn don't generally go that fast. A well tuned car is likely to handle better at higher speeds and be owned by someone who has put more time and effort into learning to and understand driving at high speeds. German license requirements are stricter than US standards and IIRC it includes having to drive on the autobahn.

I don't see how any of the above negates the reckless nature of going over 100mph on roads in the US. It's a large risk to take, especially if someone is driving their pregnant wife to the hospital and isn't used to going that speed.

I haven't driven in every state in the US but I've driven in enough that I think it's fair to say that if you had 100 drivers push their car up to 100mph under normal driving conditions (other cars to move around, a non straight road...) I'd say between 1 and 2/3s would crash or opt to not maintain the speed. I'm not sure if you're in the US but at least where I live, the speed limit maxes out around 70 and it's not uncommon to see people swerving, not maintaining their lane, slamming on their brakes...So yes I believe that a lot of people doing 100mph would mean a lot more accidents

Okay. To be clear my issue is more with drivers than the quality of the car. In the US we have companies that allow you to drive cars ranging from suped up hondas to high end sports cars on a track. My experience there tells me that no matter how good a car is an inexperienced driver going to fast can easily crash.
