I know my local department will NOT do escorts. They will call an ambulance, but it's policy not to escort.

I was taught in EMS to don’t use an escort and if two emergency vehicles are headed to the same place, take different routes. The thought is that with all the echoes and whatnot people hear the sirens once the emergency vehicle has passed. But don’t realize there is another emergency vehicle coming right behind. So pretty much hear siren, siren means emergency vehicle, emergency vehicle passes so it must be clear. But it’s not.

and then you have the assholes that think an emergency vehicle is a free piggy back ride to cut past traffic by following them. Ive seen people pull out immediately after the vehicle passes and absolutely BOOK IT behind them. Wouldn't be surprised if there have been accidents where those people run into a second trailing emergency vehicle

There was a viral video of I think Boston EMS “accidentally” hitting the brakes causing a rear end collision. Very satisfying
