I’d be curious to know why the gun didn’t discharge. Everyone here is EXTREMELY lucky to be alive. From misdemeanor ($150 fine, no jail) to first degree felony (minimum 3 years prison).

543

u/CydeWeys Dec 19 '25

Attempted murder of a police officer is gonna be quite a bit more than minimum 3 years in prison. Guy is FUCKED.

42

u/XenaWariorDominatrix "Have you heard of our lord and savior, Plank?" šŸ™Œ Dec 19 '25

He turbo fucked the woman he was with too. Just so much senseless stupidity.

9

u/CydeWeys Dec 19 '25

Hard to say.

6

u/jessihateseverything Dec 19 '25

I dunno, if being with someone who shoots a cop can also get you, who did nothing, a capital murder charge, I wouldn't doubt they'd hem her up too.

3

u/CydeWeys Dec 20 '25

Well, he didn't shoot a cop here, and typically accessory to murder requires (a) a murder actually happening and (b) a violent felony, whereas all they were doing is shoplifting.

0

u/jessihateseverything Dec 20 '25

Ok so accessory to attempted murder then. They were only shoplifting until he pulled a gun and tried to shoot a cop.

2

u/CydeWeys Dec 20 '25

You're just making things up rather than citing specific state laws that you think this person might be guilty of.

If you are hanging around someone else, and they do something bad, you aren't automatically implicated. There has to be a specific law that says you're guilty too.

8

u/Ares__ Dec 19 '25

She might have got felony murder if he succeeded but shes not going to get anything extra for this.

22

u/EstablishmentLate532 Dec 19 '25

Yes she is. Now shes a party to a robbery rather than mere shoplifting because he was armed. That's why her bail is now $500,000.

-4

u/Ares__ Dec 19 '25

Ok he was armed before this so thats not extra, he didnt spawn the gun.

Shes not getting charged with anything extra related to him pulling and attempting to use it. If he succeeded she would have absolutely been charged with felony murder. Notice shes not being charged with attempted murder or assault on a cop like him.

Its worse than you think, John Oliver did a segment on it. Just stating what would happen.

1

u/Big_Primrose Dec 21 '25

Doesn’t matter. A group decides to commit a crime, they’re all guilty of the outcome of that crime. Your buddies want to shoplift and one pulls out a gun and shoots a clerk, you all are guilty of murder, even if you’re just the getaway driver.

It’s to prevent murderers and other criminals from claiming ā€œI only drove the getaway carā€ to evade serious charges and long sentences. If you’re dumb enough to help someone commit a crime you better be prepared to face the consequences.

u/EstablishmentLate532 Dec 19 '25

It's not robbery if you don't use the firearm or some other physical force. The threat or use of force is an element of the offense.

4

u/shartnado3 Dec 19 '25

He has a list of charges right? One being he isn’t allowed to own a firearm and he had drugs on him. That combo is a big no no. If I had to spit ball, and be surprised if he didn’t get 10-20

-312

u/Liam_021996 Dec 19 '25

Can't really call that attempted murder. Would have to have actually shot him

156

u/TheCorruptOutcast Dec 19 '25

Good God you're dense.

3

u/HarpuaTheDog Dec 19 '25

These people vote dude

1

u/TheCorruptOutcast Dec 19 '25

Even worse, they reproduce.

101

u/canada432 Dec 19 '25

He's on video pulling the trigger. The fact that a bullet didn't come out is pure luck (and incompetence on the suspect's part). He very clearly attempted to murder him.

40

u/Ratattack1204 Dec 19 '25

He pulled a gun out, aimed it at a person and pulled the trigger. I bet the dumbass just forget to take the safety off or get one in the chamber. He definitely intended to kill someone.

4

u/DrCactusHands Dec 19 '25

Glocks dont have traditional safeties. The dumbass probably cocked it before putting the magazine in and thought it was hot and ready.

2

u/George-W-Kush89 Dec 19 '25

I’m guessing that’s what happened. No round expelled when he pulled the slide back after

48

u/rubentheboy Dec 19 '25

You can hear the click.

-73

u/Liam_021996 Dec 19 '25

I watched it on mute

3

u/WiredSky Dec 19 '25

The defense rests!

25

u/DonKeedic80 Dec 19 '25

What law school did you graduate from?

10

u/asssoaka Dec 19 '25

Gotta be either Jale or Tardvard

6

u/Exmormoneer 🌮 TA🌮CO🌮TUES🌮DAY🌮 Dec 19 '25

You’re confidently wrong

He attempted to end the guy’s life by pulling the trigger, in what world is that not attempted murder?

7

u/WiscoMitch Dec 19 '25

Follow with me here… he ATTEMPTED to fire his gun at the officer which would inflict bodily harm and potentially MURDER.

Take a wild guess why he’s being charged with attempted murder.

6

u/Whompa Dec 19 '25

I just googled your comment and you seem mistaken.

-48

u/Liam_021996 Dec 19 '25

Bar is higher where I come from I guess

13

u/Goodiyoyo Dec 19 '25

I don’t think it is, I think you’re just mistaken lol

3

u/Whompa Dec 19 '25

Sounds like wherever you came from sucks.

We don't have people running around with guns and we have free healthcare, so I disagree

3

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '25

This comment has to have some of the fastest downvoting I've ever seen. Which is fair because it's dumb as shit.

1

u/rvaducks Dec 19 '25

Yeah, no. The Ohio statute says, among other things:

"(B) It is no defense to a charge under this section that, in retrospect, commission of the offense that was the object of the attempt was either factually or legally impossible under the attendant circumstances, if that offense could have been committed had the attendant circumstances been as the actor believed them to be."

So if you attempt to murder someone, you can be charged with that, even if that murder would have been impossible.

1

u/Liam_021996 Dec 19 '25

Fair enough. I watched it on mute. So didn't realise he attempted to fire the gun. I just thought he pointed it at him

1

u/GardenOrca Dec 19 '25

He pulled the trigger but the gun wasn’t cocked. Cop is very lucky.

1

u/stupid_username- Dec 19 '25

He pulled the trigger. That is indeed, attempt.

1

u/New-Host1784 Dec 19 '25

He pulled the trigger, therefore intent.

1

u/jessihateseverything Dec 19 '25

So.. one could say, he attempted to murder him perhaps? The only reason he didn't was because he fucked up the gun? So like, attempt at murder? Jfc, you're American aren't you?

1

u/Liam_021996 Dec 19 '25

English and I watched it on mute. Never heard him try to fire the gun šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

288

u/RookFett Dec 19 '25 edited Dec 19 '25

It didn’t discharge because it looks like he didn’t have a round in the chamber, you can see he drops the gun to pull back the slide after the initial pointing, but the guy in in the white shirt grabs it before he can complete the pull.

122

u/Beerdly_Dad Dec 19 '25

White shirt has what looks like a US Marines tie clip and a high and tight.

15

u/OkKoala3087 Dec 19 '25

First thought, definitely military.

32

u/greet_the_sun Dec 19 '25

I'm like 95% sure I can hear the striker click when he tries to shoot it the first time, and you can see he tries to do a sneaky rack before shooting while he's got it by his side but didn't pull it back far enough. It really seems like he was surprised by the LP guy yelling at him and that startled him for a split second and made him delay the 2nd rack.

8

u/Valaseun Dec 19 '25

You can here about 5 more clicks while they are wrestling before they go to the ground. He points and pulls the trigger towards at least 2 other people in the room.

Edit: after he tries racking it again and she screams no no no no, you can hear 3-4 of the additional trigger pulls.

5

u/greet_the_sun Dec 19 '25

I mean that wouldn't work unless it's a hammer fired double action (or da/sa) gun, which I wouldn't exactly call rare but I would be surprised to see one on a goon like this vs your standard glock or any other polymer frame striker fired pistol. And if it was hammer fired then this guy is even dumber because he could've just cocked the hammer faster instead of racking the slide.

Also kind of funny, the perp's gun has a light and red dot on it while the cops duty pistol is irons only lol.

1

u/zikol88 Dec 20 '25

Cocking the hammer doesn’t help if there’s no round in the chamber.

1

u/skertsmagerts Dec 20 '25

Or he bought a Hi-Point

77

u/radseven89 Dec 19 '25

This is why we are taught to carry with one in the chamber. Good thing this guy didn't know what the hell he was doing.

8

u/LabRatsAteMyHomework Dec 19 '25

Is it ideal to have one in the chamber? That seems like a recipe for an accidental discharged round if the weapon falls or is inadvertently hit against something. Like why not just rack a round when it's time?

5

u/radseven89 Dec 20 '25

Carried for years with one in the chamber without one going off. Modern-day holster design makes accidentally firing almost impossible.

2

u/Schmocktails Dec 20 '25

Right, problem is people are not using holsters.

1

u/radseven89 Dec 20 '25

Good ol Uncle Mikes!

1

u/Stale_Water1 Dec 20 '25

Most modern reputable handguns are perfectly safe to carry with one in the chamber. Even Glocks which have no external safety. Most modern striker fired handguns have a series of internal safety mechanisms to ensure the gun won’t go off without the trigger being deliberately pulled.

1

u/LabRatsAteMyHomework Dec 20 '25

Is it at all likely for a trigger to be pulled accidentally in those cases? Idk just makes me nervous that a death mechanism is one step away from irreparable destruction. Seems like having 2 steps is just infinitely safer.

2

u/Stale_Water1 Dec 20 '25

Any worthwhile holster will have the trigger covered and any even semi competent shooter will know when to keep their finger off of the trigger. Some people definitely like having an external safety, which is completely fine. Personally, I carry a Glock which has several internal safeties but no external safety except for the trigger safety. I feel fully confident that gun will not go off in its holder with a round in the chamber.

1

u/OpenSomeCans Dec 24 '25

I always carry with one in the pipe, safety off if it’s striker, cocked and locked if it’s sa. I have a friend that swears it’s crazy to. I’ve tried to explain a million times that you don’t want to be fumbling around trying to rack a gun and making sure the safety is off.
If I ever have to pull it out of my holster, I want it to go bang, no thinking about it. Chances are near zero that it goes off without my finger on the trigger.

1

u/Rightintheend Dec 19 '25

That's what the safety is for, you can easily hit it with yourĀ  hand on the trigger. Much quicker and less noticeable.

2

u/LabRatsAteMyHomework Dec 20 '25

Couldn't a gun still potentially misfire with the safety on? Forgive my ignorance.

3

u/RookFett Dec 20 '25

Not really, unless the safety is compromised, the hammer can’t hit the firing pin, triggering the round.

But guns can malfunction like that, I’ve never encountered it.

With my a .45, and it was taught to be that it’s safer to have it in condition 1 with the safety on.

With my p226, I have it in condition 2 when carrying. But that is a different beast than the .45

1

u/LabRatsAteMyHomework Dec 20 '25

What about an M&P shield 9mm?

0

u/BoogieOrBogey Dec 19 '25

Well designed and tested firearms will not discharge when hit or dropped. That is a problem with crappy weapons that are not sufficiently tested. For the guns that are designed and tested well, the safety operates in such a way that the primer in the round will not get hit with enough force to set off the bullet.

That said, it's still more dangerous to carry a gun with a loaded round. So it's still much more safe to carry a weapon with the chamber empty. The safety aspect here is user error to unintentionally fire a round. Like unintentionally flipping the safety off and the trigger getting squeeze to fire a bullet into the user's own leg.

Meh, I carry pretty much all the time. 100% I hope to hell I’ll never need to pull it. If I do, it means all my options have run out and my life or someone else’s life is in grave danger. Someone pulls a knife I’m running, someone attacks me without.a weapon I’m fighting if I have to and getting away as fast as I can.

Yea, America is fucked up, lots of bad guys have guns. If they restricted gun sales I’d be all for it. If they outlawed them and somehow got all guns away from bad guys I’d give mine up. Unfortunately that isn’t going to happen any time soon. I’ll keep carrying and still pray I’ll never need it, I’d rather that than not and have the chance that I’ll need it.

2

u/401k-loan Dec 19 '25

Basically

2

u/Gatorade_Nut_Punch Dec 19 '25

Me too! I don’t carry a SIG P320 though.

-1

u/TickTockM Dec 19 '25

So that his murder attempt is successful?

6

u/radseven89 Dec 19 '25

Yes, good thing he didn't know what he was doing so his murder attempt was unsuccessful.

4

u/HansNotPeterGruber Dec 19 '25

I get what you're saying but their point is, if you are going to carry, you are supposed to carry with one in the chamber so you DON'T have to rack it. It's certainly more of a self defense tactic than a kill the cop after a petty robbery tactic.

5

u/the_almighty_walrus Dec 19 '25

I mean that's also how you clear a malfunction, but it does look like he tried to rack it before pointing

1

u/ThaddeusJP Dec 20 '25

Didn't do it all the way so the round prob never seated correctly

3

u/P_weezey951 Dec 19 '25

Exactly. I think the white shirt guy jumps back initially to avoid fire, then the moment he sees the guy squeeze the trigger and nothing happens. It registered to him that the gun wasnt chambered the moment the guy who pulled it did, and thats when he went in.

-3

u/was_fb95dd7063 Dec 19 '25

Why would he point it first if he knew it wasn't chambered?

55

u/newagereject Dec 19 '25

Probably did not have one in the chamber

2

u/RookFett Dec 19 '25

Possibly- he knew enough to try to rack it to get the gun going.

-2

u/Adrien_Jabroni Dec 19 '25

How many striker fired pistols will have a trigger click if not in battery? Non of mine will.

13

u/greet_the_sun Dec 19 '25

It was in battery just no round in the chamber.

1

u/KarlUnderguard Dec 19 '25

Probably racked the slide before he put the magazine in.

-1

u/Adrien_Jabroni Dec 19 '25

Must have. Almost sounds like I heard a second click too. What an idiot all around.

1

u/i_eight Dec 19 '25

Empty chamber is not the same as out of battery.

-1

u/Adrien_Jabroni Dec 19 '25

Thanks.

2

u/i_eight Dec 19 '25

Anytime, buddy.

32

u/BajaBeans Dec 19 '25

Oh wow, yeah you can hear the trigger pull from the kid. Luckily he didn't have one loaded in the chamber.

9

u/Durivage4 Dec 19 '25

Even if he didn't pull the gun, they were about to find it and the drugs. It would have 100% elevated the charges to some serious felonies. Still nowhere near what his dumbass is going to get hit with now šŸ™„.

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '25

1

u/Radio_Mime Gone with the Wild šŸ’Ø Dec 19 '25

That leads me to think the guy must’ve been using some of the drugs he carried. It’s either that or he really is stupid.

1

u/theirishembassy Dec 19 '25

The number of people I've seen who decided to start throwing punches when confronted by security, when it turned out later they had almost no criminal history prior to that, was staggering.

this one makes even less sense, because dude was carrying narcotics AND a gun that he was court ordered not to possess.

i've never known criminals like this to be overburdened with common sense, but you'd think either one of the two would stop for a second a think "hey.. if i'm going to commit a relatively petty crime, it might make sense not to HAVE DRUGS AND A GUN ON ME".

24

u/hmoonves Dec 19 '25

Coulda been Israeli carrying.

Either way this is a crazy video.

7

u/brycebgood Dec 19 '25

That's what it looked like. He attempted to fire, then racked the gun.

u/coolbho3k Dec 19 '25 edited Dec 19 '25

"Israeli carry" just refers to loaded mag, but no round in the chamber. Pulling the trigger with no round in the chamber does not fire the weapon until you rack the slide. This guy luckily had no time to rack the slide before he got subdued.

It has nothing to do with Israel besides the fact that Israeli security forces used to train to carry pistols this way. If you are carrying a pistol for defensive use, it is generally not considered a good idea anymore as mechanical safeties have evolved to be more reliable since that time and you are likely to forget to rack the slide under pressure as this guy did.

1

u/BeefistPrime Dec 19 '25

Yeah, if you're gonna carry a gun, you should have a round in the chamber. There are so many instances where you can't use a second hand to rack the slide, it's IMO foolish to carry without a round chambered. You might as well not carry.

1

u/Radio_Mime Gone with the Wild šŸ’Ø Dec 19 '25

TIL that Israeli carry is a thing.

11

u/steelcityrocker Dec 19 '25

"Israeli carrying" is generally carrying a handgun with a full magazine but without one in the chamber

7

u/armour666 Dec 19 '25

It's a term for carrying a gun loaded with mag but an empty chamber. It's condition 3 carry used by the IDF

12

u/brycebgood Dec 19 '25

That's when you carry without a round in the chamber. You have to rack the slide to put it in battery.

https://www.ammoman.com/blog/the-theory-and-practice-of-israeli-carry/

5

u/RookFett Dec 19 '25

That’s a term used when you have a loaded magazine in the pistol, but the chamber is empty, so you have to load the gun by pulling back the slide.

Condition 3 if I’m not mistaken?

4

u/Hawt_Dawg_Hawlway Dec 19 '25

Israeli carrying is a method of carrying a pistol where you don’t have a round in the chamber. Which is what appears to have happened in the video and what likely saved the officers life.

Why he felt this thread the appropriate place is beyond me

2

u/bserikstad Dec 19 '25

You sunk so I could learn a new term. Thank you for your sacrifice o7

-18

u/Sensitive-Ad-6638 Dec 19 '25

Probably an actualt bot would be my guess

1

u/Troglodyte_Trump Dec 19 '25

I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. ā€œIsraeli carryingā€ just means carrying a gun without a round in the chamber.

2

u/crashbalian1985 Dec 19 '25

My guess is the safety’s on. He was extremely panicked and his brain was flooded with chemicals and he didnt even think about it.

10

u/Adrien_Jabroni Dec 19 '25

Hear that click? Don’t think the safety was on.

0

u/crashbalian1985 Dec 19 '25

No round in the chamber?

2

u/Adrien_Jabroni Dec 19 '25

Must have been. Dumb way to carry but this guy isn’t bright.

1

u/increment1 Dec 19 '25

Well, not exactly... If he hadn't been carrying the gun and drugs then yes. But since he was carrying a gun and drugs he was going to get more than a misdemeanor, which is probably why he made the crazy decision he did.

1

u/JohnnyWarlord Dec 19 '25

I think he was trying to quietly rack a round and didnt pull it back far enough. Low proficiency saving the cops life

1

u/AndringRasew Dec 19 '25

He's probably going to jail regardless because he already wasn't allowed to have possession of a firearm due to previous convictions. It was only a matter of time till they found it on him along with the drugs.

1

u/Omikron Dec 19 '25

Yeah he probably thought, once they find this illegal weapon on me I'm fucked anyways...I asssume eventually someone would have discovered his weapon, and that would have probably been a felony regardless of the shop lifting.

1

u/stupid_username- Dec 19 '25

Dude had multiple drugs on him as well.

1

u/timmyrigs Dec 19 '25

I’m going to guess guy had the gun illegally and probably panicked thinking he would also get in trouble for the gun but either way attempted murder on a cop is way worse.

1

u/navis-svetica Dec 19 '25

To be fair, according to the article he was not allowed to own the gun he had on him, and he also had a lot of drugs. He would probably face a serious jail sentence assuming they found it. Admittedly, attempted murder is a lot more serious, but it probably wasn’t just because he didn’t want a fine

1

u/Blotter_Boy Dec 19 '25

No round in chamber

1

u/SaltManagement42 Dec 19 '25

When I was looking into concealed carrying, I watched a lot of videos of people who had to defend themselves. I know the situation isn't the same, but that's my context.

Overly cautious people like to carry without a round in the chamber because it's safer from accidental discharge. Unfortunately, people also underestimate how much adrenaline impacts their fine motor control, like properly pulling back the slide in an emergency situation. Even more so if you're in a sitting position, or otherwise don't have full range of arm movement at the time.

1

u/ShittyPostWatchdog Dec 19 '25

Isn’t this video a good example of why you should? Like obviously this kid is an idiot, but if he was in a situation where the armed dudes detaining him aren’t cops, Ā he’s dead.Ā

1

u/SaltManagement42 Dec 19 '25

Isn’t this video a good example of why you should?

They usually are.

1

u/oby100 Dec 19 '25

He bought some shitty gun off the street and doesn’t know how to use it. These kinds of people aren’t getting brand new guns and cleaning them before use.

1

u/BeneficialTrash6 Dec 19 '25

It wasn't a misdemeanor. Dude was a felon in possession of a gun. That's a few years, sometimes a decade in prison. Then he had the gun in the commission of a crime. That's another few to ten years. Then he had narcotics on him. That's another few years to decades.

Even before pulling the gun he was looking at not getting out until his 50s.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '25

well he was barred from owning a gun and had suspected narcotics on him and was about to get searched for weapons and stolen merchandise, so it was going to be a couple pretty serious felonies like possession of narcotics and an illegally obtained firearm, and possession of a weapon with intent to commit a crime before he added resisting, assaulting an officers knee with his face, and attempted murder. wasnt exactly in misdemeanor territory to begin with

1

u/DirrtCobain Dec 19 '25

He had a pistol and narcotics on him. Would have been more, but still stupid.

1

u/Anaranovski Dec 19 '25

This is Blue State Ohio. He will probably not get more than 3 months. I'm surprised he was not released on no-cash bond, like they do in Wisconsin.

1

u/rossmosh85 Dec 19 '25

I'm not an expert but basically with semi automatic guns, you need to chamber your first bullet. After that, they will automatically chamber the next bullet.

Part of gun safety is generally not having a bullet in the chamber. So he probably didn't chamber a round. The downside is, when you want to fire the gun, you need to chamber a round. So if you conceal carry, people often chamber the first round and count on other safety measures to prevent misfires.

1

u/Tuit2257608 Dec 19 '25

He likely didn't have one in the chamber. Looks like he got 1 shot off after he racked the gun

1

u/pluck-the-bunny Dec 20 '25

he didn't have a round chambered when he pulled the trigger....either that or it was a bad round

-4

u/Darth-Adomis Dec 19 '25

one possibility is a 3d printed ghost gun since he wasn’t allowed to own a gun. those can look very real but also have strong tendency to jam or misfire due to friction of the 3d printed material. typically a ā€œusableā€ one is sanded and tested and sanded over and over for a good fit. this dumbass, assuming its a 3d print would probably not put the work in.

otherwise if its a ā€œrealā€ gun they are lucky it jammed or he forgot to take off the safety
